Oh wow, super impressed with the Zune PC software.

I was really worried because I had a Zune in it's first year and that program would be so slow, crash so much... such a headache.

Zune on Win7 x64 is extremely fast and clean, just like the UI oh the phone.
Very impressed with how responsive it is.

Searched, but couldn't find it. Does the Samsung Focus have a forward-facing VGA camera or not? I've found spec sheets and websites that say it does, others say it does not. There are two little dots on the front, but I can't tell if they're just light/proximity sensors.

The camera app doesn't let me switch to it, and I'm not sure any app works with it, so I can't even find a way to prove it one way or the other.

None of the phones have a forward facing camera yet. I have a Focus and I'm not sure which two little dots your talking about?

The OS doesn't support it yet.

They did a big push with 3.0 and since then it's been pretty awesometastic!

Not overblown at all, I owned an 8GB 2G iphone and constantly had to remove apps/music/videos to free up space. On an 8GB Pre right now and have the same issues. These manufacturers are just cheaping out on the storage, it would cost them next to nothing to add more. Honestly, 8GB is a dealbreaker for me. I'd prefer 32 but could live with 16, however, I'm not paying more than $199 for a phone with 16GB of storage.
You know why they do this right? So that you upgrade your phone when they magically come out with all 16gb's the second time around, and have your money twice. Why do you think the iPad lacks a camera?

There's no indentation or anything, but under the glass, to the left of the speaker on the front, under the right light, you can see two little, millimeter-wide holes. I guess if neither is a camera, they're the light & proximity sensors.

Yup.

That brings me to a gripe with the HTC Surround.

Seems to adjust the brightness WAY too much when I hold it in landscape mode.
I had to turn it off when playing games.

You still had me looking at the camera for five minutes :lol I was getting pissed and then reread "there's no indentation or anything".

Reading Engadget it looks like the Venue Pro that the MS stores were selling are the 8GB version and there is no sd slot according to those who bought it. I can't understand why these manufacturers are putting out phones with such a small amount of internal storage with no way to upgrade. This is the Zune phone and Xbox phone, do they think we're not going to use up the storage?
I'd wait until someone takes the phone apart. It was just yesterday when we got the info that the Mozart has a MicroSD card slot as well.

A webcam I'd understand, but a camera? WTF would you do with a camera on an iPad? :lol

Got the Samsung Focus today at at&t, lady said I was the first on in there for it. Went in at about 11pm.

So far so good, the XBL stuff is just awesome.

But...

Having a HUUUUUGE gripe... it syncing my WLM contacts. I am pretty much forced to have everyone i talk to on msn, be on my phone. I can't find a way of removing them without removing them from wlm.

Focus were all sold out in my area but I got one at Costco kioske (he said they only got 2 in). There were plenty of HTCsurround at AT&T stores but it's so heavy and the screen just pale sitting next to the Focus. Not sure who to blame for the lack of phone on launch day... I means do they really expect it to fail thus only ship 2-3 phones to each store?? wth

WLM contact are really suck, there has got to be a way to remove peple off that list or making favorite list ... because well I am speechless if you can't do that.

I think I'll wait, the t-mobile deal is much better. My cousin still hasn't responded to when he'll bring my HD7, I asked my bro and he doesn't want it due to SIM only plans not giving him enough minutes. I don't know, I think I'm going to end up telling him to return my one...

e: It looks like 3G are doing some good deals, I wonder if they have the Omnia in stock?

Eugh just talked to Orange and they said their data cap is 250mb and any use over that gets charged at 60p per day... I think i'll stay well clear of them and their highway robbery lol

Keeping my order with buymobilephones but today they sent messages on twitter to people waiting for t-mobile omnia 7s advising that they received handsets from 3 today.

Really? Damn. I've been looking for clarification of their "unlimited internet" all over their site but I've not been able to find it.

Yea that's for Dolphin 25. I don't know what it is for the others but I've seen some packages come with 500mb though. Even still I don't want to have to micromanage my internet usage.

Panther 35 is unlimited.

Seems like you have to go with at least the Panther 40 to get the phone free on an 18 month contract.
Yeah, I went for the 24 month contract. I'll probably end up buying it out down the line when some 2nd or 3rd generation devices make it to market.

I'm honestly surprised they overlooked the WLM thing. They have an option for Facebook that only adds info for existing contacts-maybe they'll introduce the same for Live contacts.

Just checked out the HD7. Hot stuff, so smooth. Now how bout those Venue Pros...
I really want to know about that too... since I already got the HD7.. I'm thinking about buying Venue Pro when it shows up on dell's website lol

you know what, if they do the Venue Pro £35 p/m on 18mnths for free before tmobile take their finger out their arse and sending my fucking phone, I'll cancel and order the Venue instead.

Edit:
Dell venue pro, £50.
£35p/m 18months.
100 less minutes (500) and £5 more a month.

Shall I get it, and cancel my Omnia? Anyone with a twitter can you ask when they expect the Orange venue pros. Before or after the Omnia 7?

E2: just got off the phone, they said they have no date for either, so they have no clue which would come first.... :(

I signed up for the 14 day Zune Pass trial, think I'm pretty sold on it :P Kinda wish you could download instead of just stream though (or that it would do some downloading in advance when you're listening to an album)

BTW, question regarding email. I have a gmail account and I read an email on the phone but it still shows as unread on my gmail account. Anyone else experience anything like this?

You can download - do it from the client!

Can you not download from the phone? I have a Zune Pass and have been able to download directly to my Zune for quite some time. I'd be pissed if they removed that on the phone. I had been expecting it to have the exact same music functionality as my player, minus HD radio.

You can download from the phone.. just press and hold on the track or album and you should have a Download option if it is one that is available via zunepass.

How does buying out the contract work? I've never done it.

Oh the long press, I should've figured that there was a way to download. I was worried I was going to have to stream everything and chew battery away even faster.

Cancelled my 2nd order with T-mobile/buymobilephones.net this morning and ordered from orange, just got this email: Order Dispatched (Parcel Line) 1 Working Day.

That means I will be getting my WP7 and Kinect and the same day. Work tomorrow is gonna be a long ass day.:D

Posting this from my new focus!

Called 4 att stores before I found one that had it in stock.

How's the call quality? This is my biggest gripe about the iPhone, but I haven't heard anything about this in the WP7 reviews I have read.

gsmarena's review said the quality is iphone level, which isn't great. htc's usually score pretty high in this category if that's really important to you.

where are the venue pro unboxing and impressions? each of the 7 microsoft stores got about 10 units each and sold out quick. they probably went to store employees.

I've heard it's pretty decent. The Focus is one of the few devices that has two microphones for noise cancellation and it supposedly works really well.

My friend who traded in his iphone 4 for a focus said the focus call quality was noticeably better than his iphone (which he didn't find bad before)

Anyone know how to set the default home page for IE? Or is this not needed as it always loads what you were looking at previously AND new tabs start off blank..? (I'm so used to my desktop habits)

Anyway to turn down the volume of the sound effect made while taking pictures?

Yup, this shows that waiting an extra week has its perks. :lol
But god, that phone is soooo sexy. Can't wait until the 15th when I can order it.
Btw, does anyone know if any other online stores (Amazon) will be selling the phone? And if not, how fast/reliable Dell's shipping is?
I dunno about the US Dell, but Dell Canada has some of the fastest shipping I've witnessed. Especially impressive because Dell.ca ships everything for free.

Microsoft released a native Youtube client for WP7 to watch Youtube videos. Actually its not a standalone client/app as Youtube appears on other platforms but just opens the Youtube video URL’s to play it.

Now a company called Lazyworm has released a full featured Youtube Client App. You can search, filter and sort videos effortlessly and browse featured, most viewed, top rated, authors and related videos via the sleek user interface which harnesses Windows Phone 7 navigation techniques.

This application still requires that you first install Microsoft’s native YouTube application from the Marketplace for watching the video, but that is surely no hardship.

One quirk/bug I've noticed is that after I read an email, it doesn't consistently mark it as read, at least in Gmail. I'll read it on my WP7 phone and five minutes later I'm still getting "New email" message in Chrome and it's marked as unread in my Inbox.

Otherwise, interface is still like sex.

behind the warranty void sticker, lulz

Dell Venue Pro has microSD card after all!!

Still, you would have to give up your warranty to use it :p. Rather just get 16 GB which should last me pretty well (using a PSPGo with like 3 games on it, and I use it as my music listener and still have like 4-5 Gigs free).

And @Firestorm, hope thats the case for US too then :D

i decided to go with the hd7. gonna edit my live account contacts and fire it up soon. i think the chrome siding of the venue pro turned me off.
Congrats, be sure to give some impressions.

Also, a few quick questions. I currently have this phone:
tm506.jpg

and obviously have no 3g. If I were to buy the phone from Dell, could I just stick the SIM card from my old phone into the Venue Pro and be able to call and text?
And how does the process of upgrading to 3g on T-Mobile work? Do I just go into the store and ask for a new 3g SIM card?
