As much as I like the Venue, why are people excited about the tiny keyboard?

I thought landscape keyboards were easier to type.

Perhaps I need to try it in person.

Well, the keyboard, as 'tiny' as it is, is larger than a Blackberry keyboard. And the rubberized, surface-to-surface, raised keys are infinitely more useful. Not only is the keyboard larger, but the buttons themselves are larger, and still give great tactile feel.

Also, it's the only Gorilla Glass WP7 phone.

Maybe this sounds weird, but I think landscape keyboards are too wide. So for me it's that and the fact that the WP7 OS isn't optimized for landscape.

From the excitement I see in this thread, Microsoft looks to have a strong Windows Phone community.

I'm curious, what draws you guys to WP7? Past experience with Windows Mobile? Are you happy Zune owner? Are you Xboxen?!

I have an XBox but rarely play online. I don't even know if the LIVE functionality works with a silver subscription. I really like the minumum hardware spec that MS is requiring and the OS is fresh and new and not iOS. The user experience seems to be very close to that of an iPhone as far as the fluidity and responsiveness goes. For a while not many people will have it. Those are my best reasons.

I have been using a Touch Pro / AT&T Fuze for the past 2 years and it didn't take me a month to reflash with a custom rom from XDA so being a past WinMo user certainly doesn't have any bearing on my decision to go with WP7.

I am really excited for the potential of the platform though.

I believe the Samsung Focus has Gorilla Glass

I started off with blackberries so that form factor of keyboard is great for me. Still, happy with the Omnia!

i will never get used to small smartphone keyboards, i just cant write fastly using them. i would love the venue pro without it. the looks are perfect

Good point, gonna add it to the FAQ.

Type on a BlackBerry. It's a sublime experience.

I use an iPhone now, and I miss the portrait keyboard on my old phone.

Got the Surround. Store only got 5 of the Focus. Screen was nice but I couldn't get over the feel and form factor.

Was only $149 rather than $199.
Even the Att rep was baffled. Seemed like a glitch?

Just checked out the focus at my AT&T store... They are sold out.

Tried to sell me a Surround... Man those employees are also so clueless...

The web-browsing experience is cool and all but simple videos like on ESPN don't even work - ala iPhone or Android.

Got the Samsung Focus today at at&t, lady said I was the first on in there for it. Went in at about 11pm.

So far so good, the XBL stuff is just awesome.

But...

Having a HUUUUUGE gripe... it syncing my WLM contacts. I am pretty much forced to have everyone i talk to on msn, be on my phone. I can't find a way of removing them without removing them from wlm.

Gah. I'm not going to give up Sprint SERO to another carrier (was on T-Mobile Prepaid before) to enjoy WP7.

Must resist.

Is the HD 7 Pro really the only phone Sprint is getting?

Frack. This is what I kept asking about. Does it force you to sync contacts or can you keep that unsynced? No way in hell I want all 600 or whatever my Contacts list shows in Hotmail to be on my phone. Hell, I don't even want all my Messenger contacts on my phone. There's a bunch of people's old accounts I was too lazy to delete.

UK Guys you can get the Samsung Omnia 7 for £25/month for 18 months with 100 mins, unlim texts and unlim inet from orange if you go through the price comparison website http://www.mobileshop.com

I'm cancelling my buymobilephone.net order for this as orange actually have stock and i'd rather not be waiting till Christmas for my phone :lol

Just trying to find fair usage limits atm, it's the dolphin tariff

I brought my facebook and gmail contacts over to my Live account and I was able to pick and choose which contacts will appear eventually on my new Windows Phone.

In your case though, you may need to create a new Live/Hotmail account.

100 mins is NOWAY near enough though. Hmmm...

I had a few WLM contacts.. but most of mine are in g-mail.. and most of them overlap..

I just merged the contacts once they were on the phone so my list wasn't full of duplicates.

Walked over to the tmo store to check out the hd7 in person and it's glorious. The silver stereo speakers at top and bottom make for nice accents and the back cover and kickstand are far better quality then what the previews led me to believe. The kickstand especially did not have a noticable gap that would catch onto jean pockets, etc.

I may have to see the Venue Pro in person now before I decide. The deeper blacks of an amoled screen is nice but I really like the white background better behind the live tiles. Better viewing angles are kind of offset a bit too with the presence of a kickstand. The only thing that concerns me about the HD7 is the battery capacity.

Tried it out at the AT&T store. Fucking beautiful.

Microsoft, fuck you for taking so god damn long to kinda catch up to Apple, and don't fuck this up assholes.

I've had my hd7 for a couple of days. Battery seems ok. Lasts a full day of moderate to heavy usage. Plugging it in after i get home from work seems to not cause me too much bother and I'm hopeful the battery will stretch after a week or two.

Got the samsung focus.... got the last one at my store. Really a beautiful device (which is what I was worried about before going to the store)

I'm a big texter, I don't use calls so much. They do have other deals that might be more suitable though but I think they're all 24monthers and need to be careful and check they have data included or add it.

I think I'll wait, the t-mobile deal is much better. My cousin still hasn't responded to when he'll bring my HD7, I asked my bro and he doesn't want it due to SIM only plans not giving him enough minutes. I don't know, I think I'm going to end up telling him to return my one...

e: It looks like 3G are doing some good deals, I wonder if they have the Omnia in stock?

I'm on SERO as well. We have little choices, friend.

I still haven't heard anything from T-Mobile about my HD7 :( I even called this morning and they said they're shipments go out at 2pm and my order still hasn't changed.

Any Focus owners pick up a MicroSD? Think I'm gonna go ahead and order one off Amazon tonight.

Or not, lol http://windowsphonesecrets.com/2010/11/08/att-alert-do-not-install-microsd-in-samsung-focus-yet/

Dammit, I was hoping to expand sooner. Guess I'll have to limit what I transfer from Zune.

Overall, loving the phone. Super slick, intuitive. I'm not going to lament the missing features as its first gen hardware, but I loved the integrated People hub, among other things. Don't miss my 3GS one bit, aside from a few apps.

Did you see anything anywhere about a free month of Zune Pass? I thought we were supposed to get that when buying from AT&T

I think what MS would need to add is when you do a factory reset, it should perform a performance and reliability check on your installed card. If it meets or exceeds what MS recommends, then it should say "this card is ok!" or else give a warning that the card they installed may not be fast enough or reliable enough for good use.

Can't wait until this mess is cleared up, and hopefully by that point I'll have my Focus! :D

Also, I haven't seen anything about this...but what's the word on MS's censorship for apps? With Apple and Android being on opposite sides of the spectrum, I'm curious where MS fits in on adult apps.

App guidelines: http://go.microsoft.com/?linkid=9730558

I think they're at a middleground between Google and Apple, possibly closer to Apple. However, MS is aiming to be way more transparent about the process, and much more clear about why your app gets rejected, if they decide it doesn't meet the guidelines. We'll merely have to tell with time how that goes, but so far I haven't heard any complaints.

Reading Engadget it looks like the Venue Pro that the MS stores were selling are the 8GB version and there is no sd slot according to those who bought it. I can't understand why these manufacturers are putting out phones with such a small amount of internal storage with no way to upgrade. This is the Zune phone and Xbox phone, do they think we're not going to use up the storage?

Personally I think the concerns about the storage size is overblown. I use a 8GB storage android phone and though I could use more at times, it is nowhere a big issue that concerns much of the public. If I want my full media library on my phone (which is not even enough for 32GB), I setup a streaming server (subsonic) and stream it from my home pc anytime I want.

How many games and apps did you have on that android phone?

Saw this address in my ilomilo Live game.

I guess you get early access to the 360 version, just not up yet.

I filled up my 8GB iPhone and had 0 music and videos on it.

Apps get big.

Not overblown at all, I owned an 8GB 2G iphone and constantly had to remove apps/music/videos to free up space. On an 8GB Pre right now and have the same issues. These manufacturers are just cheaping out on the storage, it would cost them next to nothing to add more. Honestly, 8GB is a dealbreaker for me. I'd prefer 32 but could live with 16, however, I'm not paying more than $199 for a phone with 16GB of storage.

Searched, but couldn't find it. Does the Samsung Focus have a forward-facing VGA camera or not? I've found spec sheets and websites that say it does, others say it does not. There are two little dots on the front, but I can't tell if they're just light/proximity sensors.

The camera app doesn't let me switch to it, and I'm not sure any app works with it, so I can't even find a way to prove it one way or the other.
