Voice recognition on my phone is simply broken. Does not get any where near accurate results.

When some friends with the same phone upgrade to Mango I'll give them a try and see if it works any better.

Which phone are you using? My Omnia 7 gets 80% of the results wrong.

HTC Mozart. Would be lucky to get only 80% wrong.

Does get some very amusing results though.

So I'm bored today and kind of want to throw Mango on my focus.

3 questions...

Can I do this from a Mac? I have an old PC around here, so if not it's ok.

Is it easy? Can some message or link me to instructions?

Can I just pop the sim out of my iPhone 4, put it in the Focus and start using it?

Thanks :)

For opening contacts and apps, my Omnia 7 works 95% of the time. I literally use my voice for that every day; it's especially quick to call a contact. Picking up on actual words for a text message or a search term is hit and miss. It'll typically get a movie, song, book, restaurant or phrase correct, but not something a bit more obscure or a natural sentence like "I'll meet you at the pub tonight at 8:30". It isn't too bad though. I just tried that sentence now and it got "I'll meet you at the pub tonight at 8 city".

This is my weekly rant about how disappointed and angry I'll be, if Microsoft won't update the Zune software at launch. The lack of information is a bit concerning and the mango beta client doesn't have any changes, except for mango compatibility. And Jesus Christ, if they don't fix the bug with the storage location on the WHS, I'll punch Matt, Joe and even Jessica. It's fucking annoying.

No

Yes, it's easy, but I'm on my phone. Just google it.

No. The iPhones sim is much smaller than the standard size.

Finally got my DVP to a dell repair shop. It was under warranty, but the online thing for the service tag was showing it was not. Gonna get it fixed/replaced in about two weeks, so that really takes a load off my mind!

Mango is supposed to launch soon, isn't it? There's no way they'd just throw out an update that significantly improves the Zune software. I mean; it's possible, but Microsoft would already be talking about how amazing the upcoming software is and how they've done an amazing job at it and how everything surrounding it is just the best thing ever.

There should be a Mac version coming soon. I certainly hope so. If not that's just negligence.

yes... of course mom but blue tooth in the car and WP is a near seamless, no hands nor eyes off the road experience, with phone and texting but speaking text into any field (email) in that situation would be awesome

I think all we will be getting is the final version of 4.8beta for Mango unless that built was solely for the purpose of mango beta.

I haven't heard much about Zune software aside from constant rambling by MS Zune teams about what great things they have plan etc...

Anyway, have some free time and decided I don't want to wait for official Mango since it seems to be taking awhile before it get approve by manufacture. I am updating to beta 2 version. Question is should I go through the hassle of update to RTM? Those of you who have been using RTM version during past weeks notice anything significance?

Never heard such things...? Did they talk about being able to update Apps through the software, having app management at all and audiobook support? Because that's what I'm waiting for.

ETA for Mango?

It sounds like there isn't going to be a Mango "launch." Carriers and OEMs will release it when its ready. The first Mango phone will be the Fujitsu which is coming this week (25th) in Japan. No real information or rumors on when we'll start seeing updates for current phones.

I haven't listen in awhile because they get on my nerves, but WP podcast always talk about next great Zune stuff they have planning. And last time they ask for what people want, app management was the one on top of want list if I recall.

Anyway, at this point I doubt we will get new Zune software, I assume next iteration probably be Windows 8 launch.

I don't think they ever really talk about what they are doing in specifics, they just hint at them doing all sorts of things.

Concerning Mango enhancements to the Markets, I found this:

Marketplace search improvements – apps, podcasts, music separated for easy search

What about separating games and apps? Was that done?

Any of you using WP Bench? Recently did a benchmark with my Samsung Focus with a 32 GB Sandisc Micro SD card installed and got 179th place, (bad), and 101st, a score of 51.75 with Airplane mode on (average).

I'm wondering how my SD card has possibly affected performance. What're you guys getting with your various configurations/phones, with and without SD cards?

I have a Focus with a 16 gig SD Card. My best score has been 56.69, 87th place. That is with airplane mode off. What is your data/iso score?

Anybody else spring for a touchpad? For $99 I figure I would take the chance on this being able to run the win8 beta when it comes..... if not its a cheap tablet that is not half bad. Have no intention of putting android on it.... learned that lesson with the nook color which I already got rid of.

Not directly phone related but they will be soon enough with apollo.

Should've gotten the 32GB version. Not sure if 16GB is enough to install and use Windows.

If Windows 8 on tablets requires significantly more resources than iOS or Android then they have already lost.

Windows 7 installs on my CR-48 (16 gigs) with about 3 gigs left after turning off the pagefile.

Windows 8 is supposed be trimmed down even further.

I was desperately tying to get my hands on one of these for that exact intent. If anyone knows where to get one still, let me know!

BGR has exclusively learned that HTC plans to unveil several upcoming Windows Phone Mango devices at the company’s upcoming event taking place on September 1st. While Android is HTC’s bread and butter of course, our source confirms that Microsoft’s latest Windows Phone OS, Mango, will be the star of the show this time around. We have heard HTC will specifically be unveiling the HTC Eternity, a Windows Phone with 3.7-inch display headed to AT&T, in addition to the HTC Omega, a 4.5-inch Mango phone that is headed to T-Mobile USA. We don’t have exact launch dates at the moment, but we’re told that they could come sooner than expected. HTC declined to comment.

Am I the only person doubting we get a Mango launch anytime extremely soon? Next week is the press conference, but IDK. I doubt they'd have the conference on a Thursday then release Mango on a Friday. Friday releases are a no go, and it's the holiday weekend in the US. Doubt we get anything till after Labor Day.

Anything before end of September feels like "on time" to me.

Oh I'm of the same outlook honestly. As long as it hits before October they are good. Obviously IMO the sooner the better. If I were MS, and it's done I'd try and push it out as soon as everyone is back from Labor Day. Get that shit out before Apple hits with iOS 5.

I was hoping first week of September for unbranded phone but now I am not to sure ... it seems manufactures are more gearing for new batch of phones.

I can't get RTM version of Mango to install on my Focus but the beta 2 version seems working Ok for the most part. Bing is a little glitchy when it come to location, not sure why. I really like the Mango and want to keep using it, Bing vision is awesome and also Bing search is great.

To be honest I was expecting October for next batch of Mango phones, so if they already getting Fujitsu phone out this week then may be there is hope for Windows Phone 7.

Mango is great and really should have been the launch version. Pre-nodo is like beta of Windows Phone ... now I want them to get more update out and fixes little thing that will help make experience better. Another update in 3-4 months would be awesome. The phone could really use more custom options and settings.

T-mobile is still getting exclusive Windows Phone. I somewhat want a bigger screen ...

On that note, I went to At&t yesterday and they have Focus back out for $49. No more LG or HTC surround. The only other W7 phone is HTC HD7s with new lower price of $99 (with contract of course). The display is as anemic as ever with the Windows Phone 7 now lump in with the feature phones. *sigh*

Dear Microsoft it's your premier partner that are killing your platform.
