Anyone else have a problem with the auto-light sensor? I believe it ties in when you place the phone near your face and take it away, right? Ever since I installed the Mango Beta, when I remove it from my face it does not light back up until I hit the lock button on my Focus. Minor annoyance, but it still persists.

Why would Verizon pick up some Windows Phones? They're doing very well with Android and now they have the iPhone as well.

They can't customize the OS like Android
There's a limit of 6 crap apps and users can delete them
The phones have the same prices as the high-end android phones, even though the specs aren't comparable
No mid-range phones

Sure, the same could be said about the iPhone, but the difference is, that customers actually want the iPhone.

e: Oh, right. And there was the KIN. It's easy to forget about that thing.

It MAY be a Samsung thing. The proximity sensor on my wife's Captivate crapped out. She dials numbers and hangs up when she presses the phone against her face. The phone is about a year old.
 
I'm having very slight audio sync issues with movies I've transferred over. Only small, but still noticeable. Anyone else getting the same thing?

It did, since they were both bound by contract. It's wasn't a bad concept just way too late and horrible pricing plan.

So far Mango beta has been very stable. At first it doesn't seem all that difference from NoDo but after using it for a few days all the little thing really make it hard for me to reverse back to NoDo. The OS is really fast especially when recovering from sleep mode or switch from app to app or app to hub. However, I really don't like the idea of having to restore the phone for the actual update.

Looking at the upcoming Mango phones (from HTC and Samsung) so far, the spec doesn't seem to be all that exciting. May be they have more to reveal on the 1st. That Fujitsu phone actually doesn't too bad, 32gb and 13MP camera not to mention water / dust proof.

I updated my beta client to the RTM and well ...

This is my weekly rant about how disappointed and angry I'll be, if Microsoft won't update the Zune software at launch. The lack of information is a bit concerning and the mango beta client doesn't have any changes, except for mango compatibility. And Jesus Christ, if they don't fix the bug with the storage location on the WHS, I'll punch Matt, Joe and even Jessica. It's fucking annoying.

Figured you were gonna update your rant..... I have a feeling they are all being put on windows 8 right now and there is only a small team being put on getting the marketplace out there internationally (and doing all the language conversions) in prep for them having zune be embedded as the media player in w8..... both of which have to happen asap.

iTunes does a great job at managing phone content.....but it's still iTunes. iOS is still........iOS. I'm interested in what Apple will show, but their interface seems to be stuck in neutral (even with the added Android ripoff notification pane ). I'm interested in what Google will show for ICS, but even the last leak looked like an incoherent mess of a UI. Plus, its still buggy, my wife's Captivate needs a clean wipe or something, it's become near unusable with freezes, and I'm not spending hours trying to figure out what app, widget, or setting is causing the instability.

The grass is always greener on the other side, is all I'm saying.
 
LG is releasing a designer edition of the Optimus 7. It looks a bit better (imo), comes with Mango and I think it has Mango hardware in it.

Even though I'm pissed right now, I'd never do that. iTunes is still a bigger POS than Zune and I'm glad when I don't have to start it (I have an iPad) and iOS5 is still iOS. Device management is important, sure, but not important enough to ditch Zune or even Windows Phone for it. But that's really just my opinion, I know that you were never really satisfied with the OS and service offerings.
 
I posted my discontent at the lack of app management on Zune. One of the best things about iTunes is that you can restore a phone to an exact state with no hassles. It's not a feature you use often, but when you upgrade phones, it's nice to have all your stuff just show up on your new device.

Yeah, I agree. However, that piece of shit does what I want it to do while the other thing, Zune, does not. I f*ing hate iTunes but it always did what I needed. I personally prefer Zune and love it, but it just doesn't do enough to be my go-to media experience.

I wish Microsoft did more to convince me that WP7 is the right smartphone os for me, but they did not. Still love the interface and will keep using the phone for work but I'll definitely take a closer look at Android and iOS from now on and if there's a good device I would switch instantly.

I feel like I'm ranting too much, but on the other hand I'm not asking for much. I'm asking for little things that were left out without any kind of explanation (Audiobooks, for example). Hell, getting YouTube to work on my phone was a pain in the ass. :D

Have you tried Mango? I can't see how someone who likes Windows Phone, could go back to iOS, after using Mango.

Users with very specific needs, like Audible fanatics etc. are probably best served by the most mainstream device that can meet more niches, like iPhone or even top line Android phones. You also had a very specific youtube issue iirc, because SuperTube is a really nice YT client, even allowing HQ streams on 3G. If another platform offers what you need, and you have LESS issues with its shortcomings than the one you're on right now, then the choice is obvious.

You're always going to whine about something, because as someone who has had extensive experience with multiple OS' (including now WebOS), there really isn't a perfect one out there. You don't have to feel bad about making a choice to ditch any of these mega corporations' expensive toys.

If you can handle using a library card, you can use the Overdrive app and get audiobooks for free.

I can't see how someone who thinks Zune doesn't do enough would even contemplate going to Android for a better media experience, lol.
 
I'm confused. What exactly do people want from Zune and/or WP7 that isn't offered? I can't remember the last time I plugged my phone into my computer anyway.

Edit: US people at least. I understand people in other countries having some grievances.
 
Is it now possible to downgrade to NoDo and/or upgrade to the consumer version of Mango without an original backup?

Meh, I'm still going for the Dell Venue Pro when Mango is released. Nothing previewed so far has been lust worthy.

The only thing it really needs is better app management. Not really deal breaker, IMO.

Is there some WP7 spec requirement that the phone has to look ugly as hell? Almost everything we've seen so far for the platform has fit that description, except the Omnia 7

It's cheaper to make those designs with plastic materials for a third tier platform. The Fujitsu looks awesome.

Biggest improvement to that is the rear of the phone, the camera on the current one looks terrible and very outdated. Far classier now.

There are couple apps on marketplace, including one by Microsoft. Sorry don't have my phone with me right now.

the Windows Phone app store hit 30,000 apps today which is another milestone for Microsoft and a win for the consumer. The Windows Phone Marketplace has seen close to 1000 new apps developed in the past two weeks and that number continues to climb.

The most popular apps are games, which account for 17% of the marketplace – hardly surprising considering the same category is also the most popular on iOS and Android app stores. Educational and sports apps tied for second place both taking up 14% of the market each, followed by entertainment apps which came in as the fourth most popular at 11%.

Of the 30,000 apps currently on the market, 75% of those are in English with German being the second most popular language.

And what provides more joy than a free app that is incredibly useful? Currently 47% of the apps on the marketplace are free to download and use. A smaller 20% are trial-ware apps which ask you to pay after the trial is over and 8522 apps (33%) require you to pay to be able to use them.

I've been banned for two months, but is there any word on new phones for Tmobile? My HD7 has a huge crack in the screen and getting it repaired was as much as buying another one so I decided to wait for the new phones but I'm getting antsy!!!

For Windows Phone fans, there will be at least one handset each from Samsung and HTC: the i937, which we've already seen on video, as well as the HTC Bunyip. It was not made clear which unreleased model Bunyip represents, although it was suspected to be either Omega or Eternity.
