Wait, isn't it possible for it to just use the album artwork stored in your library? Are we talking about Zune Pass here, or just regular music?

So with what was unveiled with W8, Zune software is pretty much biding its time, yeah?

I think so. I'm also hoping that's the excuse for the shocking lack of progress for the Zune software since Windows Phone launched. Hopefully whatever replaces Zune will be a worthy desktop companion to Windows Phone. Zune has simply not kept up.

The live tile and lock screen won't show the cover art, but the artist art.

That needs to be downloaded from Zune and is definitely a regional thing. I don't think allmusic as the rights to distribute the data outside of the US or at least not for all artists.

You can try to use Zune Social Tagger to fix this.

This isn't true at all. Talk and surf is extremely useful and there are plenty of scenarios you'd want to use it. Also, if you get any sort of Edge/3G signal, you can surf and talk, it isn't something that can only be done in a few areas.
You missed my point. It requires a reliable signal and drains battery.

brotkasten said:
Yeah, surf n' talk works just fine with GSM. It's CDMA that is such a shitty technogly. It still baffles me how it could've become so huge in the US. It feels like tech from the 80s. It's also one of the worst anti consumer technologies I can think of*. "What? You wanna legally use the phone you bought on another carrier? I don't think so!" It's crazy how different the mobile network landscape is between the US and Europe.

* Okay, that might be a bit too much

What I like about CDMA is that if someone steals your phone, the phone can be deactivated and forever the phone cannot be used on the network again.

CDMA is also used in China and several other places around the world. I wouldn't say it's shitty as Verizon built the strongest network in America.

Anyway, let's get back on topic. We have reasons why we choose a network over another. For me, it's price.

If the dual talk and speech is important to you, then so be it. In my experience it hasn't worked well.

I'm back...

Is it possible to use a custom ringtone on the LG Optimus 7? I can't seem to find the option to use the GoT theme even though it's on the phone.

*EDIT*

Oh and I also bought a few games, but it's not charging my card. I've checked the purchases via the billing page but it just says open...

Is it normal for them not to charge for days or has something messed up on my/their end? It's just that I want to buy a few more games, but I'm holding back as I'm worried something's gone wrong.

*EDIT END*

Apologies for asking so many questions.

so not sure i ever got this answered before when i asked, i could have and just missed it so i apologize. What is a good phone i can get off of craigslist for a decent price to play around with the OS.

mm, that would be ideal, i would assume the amoled screen makes the wp7 live tiles look awesome. they are all upgradable to mango? Also, i left out an important detail. I'm on ATT, so just going to swap sim cards

YAY!

Can anyone help/advise with the updated question in the above post. Many thanks for all the help, it's greatly appreciated.

:)

I don't know when they charge the card exactly, but I do get the invoice email/purchase confirmation several days after I bought the app

It does look gorgeous on the SAMOLED screen. <3

thanks. I'll think i'll hold off for the new crop of phones to release and see if the prices drop, or if any ATT gaffer wants to sell theirs to upgrade

Once the Focus S is available, I won't need my focus anymore.. so I'll be happy to sell it at a reasonable price.

Mango battery life is definitely worse than NoDo battery life. I know that shouldn't be too surprising, but I can pinpoint the reasons why:

-Chat running in the background. This KILLED my battery life on Android, and I suspect its a big contributor to my diminished battery life on Mango. I wish I could set it up to turn off at night, and back on in the morning.

-Apps can pull more data in the background. Live tiles in NoDo are tame, plus they don't always work. In Mango, these things flip, you can have multiple ones per app, and they all work much better, meaning background data that slowly seeps battery life.

Also, I've mentioned this before, but 5 cards in the multitasker just isn't enough.

My battery life is better than it was with NoDo.. but I don't have chat running in the background.. I always sign out.

For me, that was the biggest drain on the battery.

Dear Mango users,

get the app "ConnectivityShortcuts" from the marketplace.
It's free and allows you to pin a shortcut to your WiFi, BT, Cellular or Airplane settings to your home screen. It's pretty nice.

Don't forget that your phone is getting a year old. It's only natural that your battery life is decreasing over time and Mango doesn't help, yeah. I'm still getting though the day with chat enabled.

i found the beta worse than the RTM. RTM is about Mango level i find, plus battery saver mode helps a lot. i'm continually signed into chat and get the same kind of battery life. ish. i think :) i'm on the final HTC firmware now and it seems to be RTM levels.

i don't think the live tiles really do anything when the phone is asleep, so unless you're staring at your start screen alot, the flipping tiles shouldn't really have a noticeable drain over the none flipping ones.

WonderReader is using the background task API to pull data for the live tile.

well, that'd be more of a question of background tasks draining your battery life rather than live tiles wouldn't it? unless i'm misunderstanding this. i don't use wonder reader, but i do notice that my weather tile seems to update moments after i unlock the phone.

Is IE any better in Mango?

Can anyone check to see if the Cheapass Gamer mobile page actually works?

It's one of my top sites, and doesn't play nice with the mobile version on WP7.

It's IE9. It's exactly the same as the desktop version and it works great.

that sites works fine. I'm not sure what it's suppose to look like since I've never visitied it but it's basically just a list of links. Looks a bit like an iPhone app.

it has HTML 5, with hardware acceleration... so the new m.youtube.com works great in it. zooming and other things work a lot nicer too.

i'm sure there's plenty of other improvements. the html 5 youtube though, is super nice.

When you actually go into posts, the names are all white, so you can't see who's posting, and the edit and quote buttons blend in.
Oh well, it still looks like shit, sorry. The desktop version looks and performs wonderful, though. You should ask the admin about that. Maybe he has to put the IE9Mobile on the "doesn't render like crap" list, like YouTube did. IE9 Mobile isn't the ultra super best mobile browser on the market, but it's quite capable, fast, supports some HTML5 standards and usually doesn't render like shit.

So it's still broken in the new IE? :\

Wouldn't be a deal breaker for me, I should probably be on there less anyway...:p

EDIT - and yeah, I would just use the regular version if I needed to check out a deal or something.

What about tapping phone numbers and instantly calling? It's something I really like in mobile safari.

edit: do you have a link to a phone number example? I know WP7 supports the tel: attribute so it should work if that's what they're using

--

You can see it for yourself if you have IE9 on your PC.

open IE9
press F12 to get the developer tools
press "tools" > "change user agent string" > "Custom"
in the box "Friendly name" you can just put anything ('WP7 Mango' or something)
in the box "User Agent String" put this

this is from my phone said:
Mozilla/5.0 (compatible; MSIE 9.0; Windows Phone OS 7.5; Trident/5.0; IEMobile/9.0; SAMSUNG; OMNIA7)
choose "set" and then go load the site.
It should load the mobile version which is exactly the same as the one you'd see on your phone.

thanks for posting this trick by the way. it's neat.

np.

You can do the same thing with Chrome which is useful for looking at mobile sites aimed at the iPhone/Android (since they're both webkit based)

chrome.exe -user-agent="UA_HERE"

Biggest problem IE9 mobile has it's not officially released yet so many sites that might actually work okay now still don't because they are flagged correctly yet. It's basically was Brotkasten said about Youtube finally getting flagged and boom html 5 of youtube on our browser worked. We just need more sites to take the browser into account. Not that it's a magical fix for things tho.

browser sniffing is a terrible practice. It's especially bad on mobile sites since the software moves so fast.

I understand why so many people do it because mobile browsing was so complex just a few years ago but now there's really no excuse.

I don't disagree, but it is what it is at the present time. Nothing we can really do about it sadly. :/

Yeah. Think I'm gonna read up at XDA and manually do it. Fucking Taiwan has it and we're not getting it because "it's not fall".

Is there a recap from all the Windows Phone news from //build? Did Microsoft just have a huge developer conference and not once mention their phones?

I don't think there was any major news. Some info about converting wp7 apps to windows8, cross platform gaming, etc. There were a couple of wp7 sessions

Really though, MIX is where there is a focus on phone. We'll probably hear a little at MWC and a lot at MIX, like this year

It's the LG Optimus 7. I was so close to purchasing it but the screen and camera in the Omnia 7 won me over.

My main driver is a GS2 but I have an Optimus 7 that I just can't let go of. :)

Its a great little phone. I am looking forward to checking out what Mango brings. I'm a big Android fanboy lol, but damn WP7 is just awesome to use. Currently missing a few key features but Mango seems to solve that.
