Can anyone recommend one or two good RSS readers? And maybe a few not too expensive Apps that one should have. (Note: I'm in germany, so no american newsapps or things like that...already have the BBC app)

I love the free version of weave, but I'm not too heavy of a feed reader, so ymmv.

nextgen reader and weave are the best

If you have a lot of feeds and want google reader sync, next gen reader and wonder reader. You can also try out weave and fuse if you want a different experience.

One thing I miss from Android is that I could use the volume control buttons to jump back and forth between articles. Needing to hit that button in the app bar to go to the next article is just so much worse.

Optus (the carrier I'm using) has also approved the Mango update and is waiting for the green light:
Optus has this afternoon confirmed it too has approved the forthcoming update to Microsoft’s Windows Phone 7 platform, meaning it’s ready to go as soon as Microsoft release it.

A spokesperson for the company confirmed to iTech Report that it has now approved Windows Phone 7 ‘Mango’ for use on its network.

“It’s [the Mango update] been approved for Omnia 7 and Optimus 7,” the spokesperson said.

Now the company is waiting for Microsoft to begin deploying the update to users around the world, with the Redmond-based software giant yet to reveal a specific date for the roll-out other than this Spring in Australia.

Jensen Harris didn't mince words; no notification center coming in Metro... How do you guys feel about this? Do you ever miss notifications? I'd settle for more glyphs on the lockscreen if Microsoft would give third party developers the access. Maybe one of these phone manufacturers will add a notification led...

The concept doesn't really work in Windows Phone simply because the live tiles just aren't big enough.

HTC Taiwan is ready, Vodafone AU is ready, Optus is ready and Telstra is now ready as well.

So, Australia is ready, Taiwan is ready. What about the rest?

If Microsoft can really pull this off, then this is a big slap for Android users (no, not Google, they don't care).

So what do you use when its not OK to miss the message?

Rocket Riot and 4Square both got updates for Mango.

Rocket Riot runs at 60fps now and 4Square apparently isn't all janky anymore.
any chance hydro thunder could get an update? i want to buy it, but the demo has really bad framerate issues on omnia 7.

question about mango: my phone (o7) has no branding, how do i get the update?

I think hydro thunder got an update a while ago that helped with performance. I don't think it'll ever make it to 60 fps though :P Rocket Riot got the bump because XNA was limited to 30fps, Hydro is running sub-30fps.

Just spoke to T-Mobile UK and they say the Omnia 7, as they no longer support it and were the only carrier in the country to, is now a 'stand-alone' device. Samsung are now responsible for providing any future updates for the device.

Ouch, lets hope Samsung are quick about it.

they only have to update about 77 phones around the country, not a huge deal

I wouldn't worry about it, an RC build of the Mango RTM rom with new drivers etc. was already leaked. Samsung is definitely working on this.

I laughed.

e: At least O2 is still supporting this dead OS.

O2 in the UK
Hi Calum, we're working on the final testing phase as we speak, so it's going to be released very soon. Watch the space!

I already have the RTM Mango on my phone and everything works fine so I don't really care

wtf

Aren't WP7 updates supposed to be approved by Carrier?

Taiwan is still crazy over Android and the iPhone. Mostly Android though.

If WP7 can separate itself by making its Windows services the best on the mobile platform, then perhaps it can make itself relevant in Asia.

That's what I was thinking. I suppose we have to manually update it? How though? By monitoring their website? And Samsung aren't picking up the phone, saying their office hours are Monday to Friday 9 to 6pm -_-

This is utter BS though. I don't mind downloading it myself but for many customers they won't even realise there is a major update out to improve their phone. How can T-Mobile just stop all support for the phone even if they're not selling it? They still support Windows Mobile 6.5 for gods sake

Maybe T-Mobile UK thinks WP7 is just like Android.

lulz just buy a new phone or root it nerds. problem?

I asked our beloved friend from MobileTechWorld about T-Mob dropping the Omnia 7.

The statement isn't really clear here. After one year all device repairs etc are directly handled by the manufacturer anyway. BTW the Omnia 7 Mango firmware that leaked ( the one I'm running now) is from T-Mobile)

Nothing to worry about?

In regards to whether or not T-Mobile will be pushing the update? The customer service rep said I wasn't the first to call in about the question, and that after they had consulted with Samsung a few days ago, it was decided that they'd do the update

For my wife's Captivate, Samsung had the Froyo (Android 2.2) file available for download and they had some (crappy) software called Kies that helped along with the update. I learned about the update through blogs. I can't say if AT&T pushed the update OTA for the Captivate since I got the update right after it was posted by Samsung. Although this update was super late (Froyo in February 2011, lol), at least I can say Samsung was posting and distributing the update themselves, so that's a good sign for you.

I don't think you should worry, either follow the blogs or listen in here and we'll tell you where/when to get your update, unless you want to flash the RTM yourself.

BTW, the camera on my Focus (which had some sort of black speck or "tear" which showed up in photos) mysteriously fixed itself overnight. Windows Phone Mango is THAT good.

Also, that means I'm once again not in a desperate rush for new hardware and can wait for the Titan/Focus S/Sea Ray (whichever drops first) rather than jumping on the Nexus Prime or iPhone 5.

Hey guys, when in Mango and you're going through your contact list, how can I avoid seeing my Twitter contacts and just my Windows Live/Facebook friends? To be specific, I'm not talking about the general list of contacts - I filtered that out - I mean when, for example, adding contacts to a group; it shows everyone

Tap the ellipsis at the bottom of the screen, go to settings, then click on "filter my contact list"

So it's the 15th. Has anyone Mango ? Nothing here in Germany.
i have it.

i mean, i flashed my HTC firmware to get it, but i tell you this, the new version of Flixster is cool. i have my local cinema pinned to my start screen now.

edited major brain fart.

SUCCESS! Zune installed and phone has been synched up. :D Thanks to all who helped.

Moving on, does anyone know if Voda UK will be offering the Mango update? If they aren't, isn't it possible to update to Mango through Zune? (my phone downloaded a few updates through Zune earlier, so I figured that's where I'd be able to upgrade to Mango from)

A german court banned phones from Samsung offices.

Hahaha, nice.

Have to say, after two days of usage, I quite like my Optimus 7. Only thing is the battery doesn't seem to last very long. However i do have bad reception in my flat where the phone is most of the time, so i guess it just uses more power to keep a signal.

Can't download previous apps from Zune PC. Saying its already purchased, well yea, I want to download it.
