The batch file didn't work, which caused some slight panic to set in. Some sort of version mismatch. Pasting the restore into its appropriate location did the trick. Losing Mango for a week was okay as compared to possibly having to hard reset and start over.

Ugh, WhatsApp uses IE9/HTML to render your contact list. I thought it might be a good replacement for ListBoxes but it's really bad - the renderer can't keep up as you scroll down and you're left with a blank screen while it scrolls. The jumplist (I think that's what it's called) is really dodgy, too. It also includes your Facebook contacts by default and gives you no option to filter them out.

Haha, oh man, the jump list is really terrible.

Why... doesn't the bar at the bottom have any icons? It's just a huge grey rectangle that serves no purpose except as a button for the pop-up menu.

The entire UI is so bad, ugh. It's like they didn't even try. I mean, the about menu, what the hell...?

Just curious, how can you tell its HTML5?

And yeah, kinda sucks that it shows all of your contacts, but that is in the all tab. It looks like the people that use whatsapp are in the favorites tab, which is all you'd really need to use.

I'm guessing because it renders similarly to how IE9 renders websites when you flick down. It makes sense though, there's no reason why it can't use the default jumplist instead having a shitty implementation of it.

It renders like IE9 (scroll down fast on a webpage and you get the same effect), names don't tilt when you press down on them (like they would by default with a listbox), and clicking on a jumplist honestly feels like clicking a link in a web browser - there's a delay and then the page 'loads'.

edit: Yeah, what he said :P

Thanks! I will use Zune right away. Unless you mean the batch file worked after putting the back up in it's appropriate location?

I think it's just a crappy custom control. It probably scrolls like crap (like pre-mango scrolling) because it doesn't do things like loading images outside of the UI thread.

The jumplist control (long list selector) was added in August as part of an add-on toolkit. Its possible the official control didn't exist when they began the app.

The batch file did not work. I received an error, then proceeded to follow the manual steps instead. Which basically are, copy your restore folder into your ApplicationData\...\ folder etc. Then open Zune, go to Phone Update and if you're lucky, it'll show your restore there.

Edit: The detailed instructions.

Manual:
1) Copy your backup in C:\PreMangoState to %userprofile%\AppData\Local\Microsoft\Windows Phone Update
2) Run Zune, navigate to settings, click Update, and press Restore

Yes. If you navigate to a subfolder it says "click here to sync this folder" or something like that.
Is that not the same as 7.0? I can't remember.

My work account dumps mail into subfolders upon arrival, I was so sick of not being notified when mail hit those subfolders.

So what am I missing here. Don't see any revision # for my Focus. Just "10.11"

I've used a bunch, and Birdsong is definitely my favorite. It hasn't been Mangoized yet though, hopefully soon.

Best three are Birdsong, rowi, and beez according to me. Right now, I second Birdsong.

That doesn't even look like the Samsung sticker. No logo, nothing. Maybe there's something under that, but it doesn't look right at all.

Right so yesterday I restored my laptop to Windows 7, which took 4 hours. Now I start the long task of restoring my phone. I'm using the zune method.

Is it noticeable when you go back to nodo?

Speed mostly, scrolling too.

You only get notified of email in subfolders if they are pinned to the start screen

I suspected as such. Pretty disappointing. I suppose I can pin some key subfolders and leave them at the bottom. Does that notification appear on the lock screen as well?

Need some assistance.

I often have my earphones jacked into the phone, and I can hear all my notifications through them. However, when I get a phone call the ringtone plays through the speakers ONLY and not the earphones.

I'm on an Omnia 7. Is there a fix?

why should i use this app and not something like skype or msn?
i dont get the value of it
It's a cross-platform compatible IM service that is available on pretty much every mobile platform. Symbian, BlackBerry, iOS, Android and now Windows Phone users can chat with each other without paying a dime and you don't even need to create an account or add users to your list.

yeah they do, hopefully they'll add a more elegant solution later

No you add your mobile number to their database and allow them to scan your contacts list to see if any of the numbers match numbers in their database, so no you don't create an account but you give as much info away as you normally would.

sorry for double post

It's still more convenient.

Its more of a text message replacement than an IM app, IMO. Most people I know that use it do it because they (or their friends) don't have unlimited texts

I don't know of anyone who hates making a new account because it "gives away information". It's because it takes time.

skype msn are cross platform and free too
no account is a plus though
Skype isn't available for non-Verizon BlackBerry users which kills one significant phone OS. MSN was balls on iOS, WP7, and I'm not sure what was available on Android last I checked. It's also not heavily used by Americans.
