My Mom has an iPhone 4 which I compare next to my Focus at some point when I get a chance....

Doesn't help you cause it's not the Mozart though...

I haven't got any pictures.. so can't help there. However, I have put my Mozart up against an iPhone 3Gs and they seemed the same.

Looking at the actual specs now and there is only a couple of millimeters difference. Mozart is taller, iPhone wider. Near identical thickness.

How is The Harvest, actually? All I've ever read about the game are these short blurbs about how it looks great, plays well, etc. But they're all "Reviews" that seem like they were written by people who spent all of 15-20 minutes with the game.

How long is it? How much variety is there? How does it compare with the best and deepest iPhone games like I Dig It, or puzzle games like Cut the Rope or others that have hours and hours of gameplay, hundreds of levels, or something else like that?

Honestly I've only played the demo, but I was sort of bored. It was fun and all, but something just didn't grab me. I like games like Diablo and Torch light as well. ilomilo just seemed much more fun for a fuller fledged experience.

Obviously not comparing to other games like Flight Control or Flowerz.

I'll check out the demo then. I wouldn't have a problem getting it even if it was a fairly shallow but fairly fun tech demo, but those XBL games are a lot more expensive than some of the throw-aways I'm used to on iPhone.

Hey you and I agree. I think it should be 5 bucks, but the price is because they put so much time into the graphics and content.

ilomilo seems the better game even beyond the fact that it's free though.

IMO it's not about brightness but the colors and the blacks. IMO it's easy to see the difference if you look at them in person.

Engadget's side by side of some of the EU phones

It's clear which one has a different screen...[/QUOTE]

I'm the early adopter geek in my circle of friends, the first reaction everyone has had to my phone (Omnia) when I had them play with it is: "wow, the screen, the blacks! followed by "wow, this is so cool!"

I've followed WP7 since the very start, and even I was wowed by the screen when I first turned it on.

Word of mouth is gonna be great for this phone.

There are tons of ads here, but it's the short version which doesn't get the point across as much IMO. I've had to explain the meaning to a few (it only show people bumping into each other with other phones, not the last scene in the restaurant).

I'm tempted with the Samsung Omina 7 the screen beats anything out there.

I wish the games could be bought with MS points...so strange to use cash to buy these stuff when they have a nice xbox infrastructure in the background already sigh...

question? when there are new "chassis 2" phones next year, i would assume we can re-download games on the new phones without repaying for them?

I'm going to be pretty sad if I just spent $100 to buy out of contact with Verizon and then they get them in the next 4 months.

I'm sure the marketplace info is tied to your Live ID, not to your device. I'm sure you can redownload them onto your new device when you get one.

Did Dell delay the release the Venue Pro on their website? It shows no longer available to be bought online. :(
I don't think it was ever available online. But Dell never specificaly said the phone would be sold online today (I stayed up to 1AM EST hoping it would) :(
Amazons been putting a buttload of accesories for it online over the weekend though, so thats a pretty good sign that it'll come out SOON

Is it possible to get unlock phone from Europe and used them in the US?
I asked earlier but got no answers here... It should work but you have to check what bands the phone supports to make sure the 3G will work on your US carrier. Like the Omnia 7, the one I want, doesn't appear to support 3G on AT&Ts network. It's also very expensive importing those unlocked phones. The lowest price I've seen for the Omnia 7 is $800 and that doesn't include the international shipping.

So I'm picking up the Focus this week/once I can sell my current phone. Did Amazon ever have the Focus in stock? I rather not pay tax and shipping if I don't have too. Also what about accessories? Are there screen protectors to prevent scratching?

The Omina 7 does work with AT&T's 3G, it uses the 1900 Mhz band

Thanks.. yeah that is expensive. The Omnia is really nice looking. I really don't like the Focus looks .. it just scream cheap samsung phone.

Well I found some case and screen protectors at AT&T stores and on their site.

Amazon has one by Skinomi and there is also one by Zagg.

There is also feather case by Incipio that looks like it might be good.

My next question is which earphones (that have mic and volume) would work with Focus. I got Sony one for iPhone/iPod but the control doesn't work.,..

Just wondering, did they fix this or are we still stuck with no Unicode support?

It isn't 100%. For example, here is a list of languages from that same wikipedia page. I am going to bold the ones that WP7 shows as "boxes". Everything else matches the desktop.

The Focus comes with headphones that have volume and mute controls. They look just like the Sony headphones a coworker has for his iPhone. I hate the squishy in ear style myself so I use my iPhone earbuds for now.

I have a grey Incipio case, not sure if that's what you mean by feather case but it works well enough. And I don't know about anyone else but screen protectors seem to mess with touch screens in a weird way. Can't quite put my finger on it but finger grease seems to really mess with my screen now that there's a protector on it.

If you check out my review thread I have a pic I took of the ear buds that come with the focus
Hell I'm using them as I type this. LoL :-P

I tried using the headphone at work the other day and it was OK. The sound seems a bit boomy. I am trying to find a replacement that I can live with but for now yeah the OEM stuff will have to do.

That's still a huge improvement over the Zune, which to this date does not support unicode as far as I know.

Yes that's the case. I order a black one from their site so hopefully they ship it soon. As for screen protector, when I first put them on my iPhone, I have a hard time with it but then you just adjust and get used to it. It's kinda nice to have though, my iPhone screen still look as good as the first day I got it.

My sister is thinking of getting a windows 7 phone, and she says most important to her is map functionality. Can anyone describe their thoughts on the maps in the phone, or point me toward some detailed review of it? Specifically we are intersted in, searching nearby businesses or locations, and navigation.

You have to invest in a high quality protector. I don't know if there are any available for the Focus yet but I always went with the Power support ones for the iOS devices. I've seen the finger grease problem happen with other protectors on my friends' phones but then I also had the finger grease problem on the most recent iPod Touch without a screen protector :/

Top 10: XBLA & IG games I want on wp7

Finally the wait is over! And Just in time for the delivery of my phone (tomorrow) the number 1 XBLA game I want ported over to Windows Phone 7. I assure you I am being serious. The reason for my choice is simply being Turkish we play this game a lot. When I don't have people to play it with I play it on my Xbox 360. Now I want to play it on my phone.

Check out the number 1 after the jump.

From the excitement I see in this thread, Microsoft looks to have a strong Windows Phone community.

I'm curious, what draws you guys to WP7? Past experience with Windows Mobile? Are you happy Zune owner? Are you Xboxen?!

Windows Mobile? - I actually hate my tilt right now :lol, but it's a totally different OS.

Zune? - I am looking forward to a Zune sub. I like the model, plus the Zune SW is in another world versus iTunes.

Xboxen? - I don't have one.

So other than Zune and liking the OS interface why would I want one? Well, there are a number of MS services that this will integrate with that are quite useful to me (Mesh, etc) ... the office support is quite useful ... most importantly for me, there is going to be some very useful integration between the phone and Vail. I will be able to stream content from server in basically a plug&play fashion. That is an exciting prospect for my use-case.

Also, deving (for personal use and potentially pro) via .net is quite promising.

http://www.intomobile.com/2010/11/1...atible-microsd-cards-on-the-way-from-samsung/

So Microsoft decided to make some strange decisions with Windows Phone 7 – like not having copy/paste at launch and no memory card support – and now it seems like customers are paying for it. The first-generation iPhone-esque approach is odd, considering the criticism that Apple took for the lack of certain features. However, Microsoft is very quickly moving to alleviate some of those problems.

Samsung, on the other hand, is hoping to overcome its customers’ woes in the meantime. The manufacturer decided to go with memory card slot support in the new Focus, and that daring move is now proving to be a little costly. Users are complaining that they can’t install just any microSD card, and we heard last week that AT&T employees were told not to install memory cards for customers.

Samsung says that microSD cards will have to say “Windows Phone 7 Compatible” in order for them to work with its WP7 smartphones. But in the meantime, Samsung claims that the SanDisk 8GB class 2 memory cards will work with the Focus.

Samsung states in its support forum:

Hi, actually the Samsung Focus has a 16GB internal memory and expandable up to 32GB. So you can insert a 32GB micro SD card on this device. However there are certain limitations when it comes to the micro SD card. Compatible micro SD cards will be branded as “Windows Phone 7 Compatible” on the packaging. Approved cards can be obtained from the manufacturer or carrier. (The SanDisk 8GB class 2 micro SD card has been certified.) Many commercially available retail micro SD cards are not approved for use in Windows Phone 7. Use of unapproved cards may cause performance degradation or device instability, including unexpected reset and loss of user data.

At this point, perhaps it might be wiser to wait until the certified memory cards become available instead of risking voiding the warranty on your Samsung Focus.

Interesting.

Obviously it supports "show my location" as every WP7 phone requires this. It can switch between aerial (picture) and "just roads" mode. You have directions and you can toggle whether to show traffic or not (roads show up as green or red).

You can pull up search from the map app and search for "pizza" and it will show where nearby pizza places are on the map. You can switch to "results list" to see the flat list instead of markers on a map.

Is there anything that you thought was missing, moving from an iPhone or an android phone?

The focus doesn't have 16GB of onboard memory, though.. unless the OS is only showing us half of it..

Nice that samsung doesn't know their own products :lol

I'm getting by with my 8GB.. I'll hold off on expanding it until we see some "certified" cards..

at which time, i'll install one and leave it in the device.

Hilbert said:

I'm not the best person for this - I was using Windows Mobile 5 before this.

I did like the old bing app for WM5 that showed categories of places (movies, gyms, etc.) where you browser through.

Also, there is one Android feature I've seen that seemed kinda cool. It showed places in Street View mode and you could see whether a restuarant was to the left or right or behind a building (instead of top-down.) I have no idea if Google will release a similar app outside of Android.

What exactly does a hard reset entail after installing the sd card? Can you sign into your Live ID or restore from a backup and immediately be back to how it was before?

Charred Greyface said:

After you install the card the phone doesn't see it so I did the full reset (ie restore the phone to the original factory setting). You can then sign into your live ID and whatever change you make to your contact on your Live ID will reflect this so your contact will pretty much be back like it was before the reset. All you games and data will all be gone so you have to redownload and resyn your musics and podcast. It took me about an hour to restore all my setting but then again I only have the phone for couple days.

I used SanDisk 16gb Class 2 SD "bulk" from Amazon and it work flawlessly. I have 8gb iPhone for 4 years and there is no way I am going back to constant erasing and moving apps in and out of the phone. It's silly to not have this work out by Samsung (I am sure they aware of WP7 spec) and even more silly to release a phone in 2010 with 8gb.

There's a site that test bunch of memory someone post earlier and confirm which memory work with Focus. I am thinking Samsung probably use 8gb class 2 inside the Focus.
