Were any Focus owners able to update their phone from 7720 to the latest ones? I keep checking on Zune, and it always says my phone is updated to the latest version...but it's not.

I think very few people have gotten 8XXX so far. I don't know that it has made its way through all of the OEMs, let alone carriers.

Okay, as someone that currently has neither (and lives in the US), Zune Pass vs. Pandora. Which and why?

They are totally different beasts. Pandora gives you very little control over what you're listening to (think of it as a custom radio station) while Zune Pass lets you stream or download exactly what you want. In Zune there is also a feature called Smart DJ which will create a custom playlist (of both local and streamed songs).

Thanks for that insight.

One thing that has always got to me is how flaky I am with music. I go for long spurts not listening to anything, spurts where I only listen to what I already have and spurts where I start thinking about the scores of songs and artists from last century that I am either rediscovering or discovering and want to listen to as much of their stuff as possible.

That's kept me from getting a Zune Pass for the 7 months I've had my phone, but those moments when I start the discovery process I really wish I had it.

This is where Nokia will shine or already did.

why spotify over a native solution? Honest question, I haven't tried spotify.

access from different devices, otherwise not much difference imo

I tried the free premium 3 day trial. Now the Spotify app despite being a Zune competitor was one of the big Apps MS touted as pushing to getting done. It's a native coded app that works really well.

Other than that it works great, but nothing OMG better than zune. Still app is fast, mango built, and works well with the lock screen. So the key would be outside of your WP7 device Spotify works on everything were as Zune only works on well Windows. Spotify works on Android/iOS/WP7 as well as Windows/OSX/Linux. So of you don't want to be tied down it would be the better choice since music wise on the phone they are virtually a wash.

I like Spotify in Windows because it natively syncs with my Last.FM and FB accounts and I can post stuff to twitter as well.

That's really good news not only because I want the device out there for people to buy and to do well. Yet I also wanted the device out there early in the year to give me more piece of mind. I was worried it might get pushed and not launch till say May or some shit which would mean now way would be getting another device anytime over the summer or early fall.

A march release means they can have the 900 has the big boy on the block for a good 4-6 months, and then push out a real deal phone upgrade over all the WP7 devices released so far this fall with Apollo!

Let's be honest. That's what we all really want, and we can't get it till we get the new kernel.

Next Fall we'll probably see the first Nokia phones that have been designed from scratch for WP7. It's only been a year since the Microsoft deal was made which is why we've only seen modified N9 designs so far.

Does that mean older windows phones won't be updated?

Man, I am tired of seeing Japanese developed games hitting Android/iOS only.

Pretty much all of Squenix's catalog is iOS-only. The Cave shooters are iOS-only. I could go on, but you get the point. Even Android gets shafted by Japan, to say nothing of the minority smartphone platforms. It's not an exaggeration to say that Japan loves and worships Apple and so the support for iOS there is worlds above and beyond the support for anything else.

I know but this must change one way or another.

Cave once announced an exclusive WP game but that was it, nothing more was reveled.

Is this new?

http://www.reghardware.com/2012/01/13/nokia_joins_hands_with_ea_in_major_winpho_game_launch/

With the reveal of Nokia's Lumia 900 out the way, the Finnish phone giant turned its attention toward a new partnership with EA which will see over 25 popular games made available for Nokia handsets.

The full list of titles has yet to be revealed, but as you can see in the video below from EA Mobile's YouTube channel, several titles are worthy of note.

Fifa 12, Mirror's Edge and Dead Space join a list mainly dominated by Chillingo titles, a company EA bought out in 2010.

Are all those EA games ports?

Still, good to see Chillingo on the platform, hopefully means they'll start investing some money in games developed first on WP (money which will hopefully be spent on artists and UI designers).

Does that mean older windows phones won't be updated?

Everything should be updated, but the key is the fact that the update will finally allow greater specs for the new phones. The current version of the OS just doesn't support certain types of hardware configurations. That's why everything since the launch of the OS has seemed so "samey" compared to the launch stuff.

Is Tango considered officially released or is that not out yet?

We understand, from our own sources, that the initial release of Skype will not feature deep Windows Phone integration, and that Microsoft is planning this for "Apollo" and beyond. Microsoft's first Windows Phone Skype application will largely be seen as an interim release until Windows Phone "Apollo" is made available, expected later this year. Microsoft demonstrated the Skype application at MIX 2011, and the app is believed to look and feel very similar to what was originally shown.

There's no exact timing from Microsoft, but with Mobile World Congress in February and the promise of "soon", we can't help but feel that Skype for Windows Phone might just launch in Barcelona next month.

And a repost, because people are still asking and wondering.
Owens, a Senior VP at the Now Network, also opined on the software we can expect to see on 2012 Sprint phones, noting that Android and the iPhone are in dominant positions while Windows Phone has a lot of catching up to do. He's seeing little consumer enthusiasm for Microsoft's mobile platform and believes it's up to the software vendor to excite user interest before Sprint commits more resources and shelf space to it. As to Sprint's time selling Windows Phone so far, Owens says that "the number-one reason the product was returned was the user experience."
