isn't that what the homescreen is used for, pinning your most used apps/contacts etc?

I was thinking this myself. You have the people hub with all of their info, and you can then just pin individuals to the home screen with their own tile if need be.

Side note: Would anyone be interested in a video for the game The Harvest similar to what I ghetto shot for ilomilo yesterday? If so I might cook one up sometime this weekend.

I would be interested.. particularly in how long it takes you to load up a game in progress..

I think pinning works well enough, but MS needs to be careful that they don't ruin their own UI through lack of organization. What's the point of a beautiful UI if you have to scroll through a sea of tiles? They should (and I really hope they do) expand and enrich the hub experience, and leave Start page relatively uncluttered.

This I totally agree with. It's totally optional though with the live tiles so much so that it was a breeze to even get rid of the preinstalled crap which was nice.

I think we only brought it up cause Gary wanted fast access. Personally since you can go to the people hub and click on a letter to bring up all the starting letters that you have contacts for that it's sufficiently fast. Plus you can just use the voice dialing if you want to.

The key IMO is to have the major hub areas like the game hub and the people hub as tiles verses a ton of individual stuff on your home tile screen.

Battery life on these phones is going to be a problem because I am compelled to always be playing with my Focus.

I had it out at the Thunder game Wednesday night and was taking some pics and videos swiping back and forth between the stuff I just captured and back to the camera and generally just playing with the thing and I got a lot of comments about how cool it was from several iPhone 4 owners around me. I offered a couple of people to see it and they were very impressed.

Yeah. I was at a work lunch today and had my phone out and my CEO came over, interested, and played with it.

I did a deep drain of the batt where i played a movie while the batt was already low and let the batt drain to where the phone just shut off. after that, the batt took longer than usual to fully charge but it is now lasting much longer than before.

also, anyone get the people hub to display just their contacts? I selected that option in settings, sync'd again, but it's still showing all my Facebook contacts including my likes.

My Youtube Video of the Harvest!

I tried to switch cams to see if the quality would be any better. I think I didn't do as good of a job keeping the phone on screen though! :lol

Anyways the download took WAAAYYY longer than ilomilo or Flowerz, and a much longer install too. Game wise though there ARE load times that are noticeable, but at the same point I wasn't getting 3 min loads like Engadget. Makes me wonder if the game is a newer build or if it's my phone instead.

Which option are you talking about?

I too am not getting 3 minute load times w harvest. I get about 90 second load times on my HD7. I did have an issue with my save file from my trial game. after purchasing the full game, my save file would crash the game. I started a new file now and no issues yet.

Interesting... if you watch my vid I think I was getting like 30 second load times...

How are any of you who picked up the HTC Surround liking it? Played with one today, unfortunately it was dead.. battery wise. The demo station had no power apparently and no one cared enough to get it working for me to try it.. stupid Future Shop. I really liked the feel of the phone, it was hefty and felt sturdy, unlike my Bell Vibrant which is a plastic piece of shit. I really wanted to see what the screen looks like on and to play around with the OS. You can buy it outright for $449 here. I would have to unlock it to use on Bell as the phone is Telus. I looked at the others and I really don't like the LG phones and I will never touch another Samsung phone, even though the screens are gorgeous.

I'm pretty hesitant about Samsung as well. The left side of my Eternity stopped working, and my friends with that other one with the slide out keyboard have had nothing but issues (all four of them), so I'm trying to stay away from the Focus.

I felt the same way as my prior Samsung phones had been shit. The reviews were great, but I guess that has no indication of the longetivity of it.

You could but it's a big clutter. I only want to pin my family on to the homecreen and having my work contact and friends in People but on another list would be better. And what wrong with more option anyway to do thing? I thought one of the big thing about WP7 was that you can "custom" your phone interface to your liking so unlike iPhone which all end up looking the same.

The screen on Surround is not bad but when you have it sitting next to Focus however, the Samsung beat it easily as far as color and vibrant. But as you stated, on the Focus you will be essentially carry a plastic phones ... which however was another reason for me to get Focus because I am tired of carry around heavy phone.

Hmm, may give that a go...

Had a "friendly" speed competition with my friend's iPhone4 last night. We each navigated to an app then locked our screens and raced to be the first to take a picture and upload it to Facebook.

Three seconds later, when I was writing the caption for the Facebook photo, he put his phone away to watch the Focus fly. Even the most stalwart Mac-head has to admit the UI is pretty slick; which surprised a ton of people at the party. Especially those who didn't have smartphones already.

Hopefully supply gets in when they kick in the full advertising campaign, I think Microsoft might have its second holiday hit on its hands. First Kinect, now WP7, what a great year for MS.

You didn't tell your friend about the dedicated camera button beforehand, did you? ;)

I don't really understand what your competition involved.

Do you mean that you launched an app, took a screenshot, and uploaded that screenshot to Facebook?

Sorry to bugaboo guys, would really like to know :)

Some questions to prepare;
Do I need to put the phone on charge for X amount of hours when it first comes?
Any Omnia 7 cases available?
also would still like to know about tethering :) Does tmobile have a way to find out if I am tethering or does it just take it away from my data allowance?

Not quite, the point was to lock the screen on an app. To ensure neither of us was in the camera app or home screen. Then we had a friend hold a pose and we raced to take a picture of him and upload it to Facebook.

I'm not proud about it, but yes.

Okay, I'm a little smug about it. :lol

But they (the Mac-heads I know) were lambasting the "In, out and back to life" mantra as a joke. So I knew that the one function that would smoke them was the camera.

My Focus is the best point and shoot camera I've ever owned by the way.

My focus came slightly precharged. It was enough to get the phone going, but it was hardly full.

I assume their are cases for all. You'd have to buy online if your gonna import an EU to if you live in the states.

Not sure about the tethering.

I mean, I remember back in the day when they used to recommend charging a device for like 12 hours on the 1st charge. I hope that is still not the case :)

The case is basically to prevent scratches/drops, like a bumper of something? Can you recommend any?

No worries about the tethering :) Anyone else know about tmobile policies?

Pretty sure that T-mobile in the US offers tiered plans for tethering. Don't know if that policy crosses the pond.

My wife and I were set on getting a pair of G2s, but this thread has me seriously reconsidering. Problem is, we are on T-Mobile and I'm not that enamored with the HD7 hardware (battery life is a big concern). There aren't any solid reviews of the Venue Pro out there yet. Both of our current non-smart phones are broken in one way or another (but stil functional) so we are anxious to upgrade. I'm trying my best to be patient!

Same here - got it at noon on Tuesday and didn't charge it until I went to bed. I let it charge overnight, so that was 7 or so hours.

3 Dollars is about the right price for OMG by the way. If you have any interest in a nifty bullet hell shooter then jump on this game ASAP.

[Soapbox]We have to make sure we purchase the good games enough to justify more people making XBL games on the phones. Let's go WP7 owners: whip out your wallets and cost justify![/Soapbox]

But ilomilo is considered probably the best WP7 game and it's free for me!:lol

PS: Wish I could use my extra XBL points to buy something.

It's only exclusive for the rest of this year. It will be available for everyone early next year (alas, not free like it is for AT&T subscribers).

I haven't read through the thread, so I hope this hasn't been asked a million times ...

... can you set this phone up for lefties?

I stopped by an AT&T store and the manager showed the big ass warning sign, about the SD cards, included with the Focus. Hmm... is anybody surviving comfortably with just 8GB? How big are the apps so far?

So far so good. The apps aren't that big outside of say The Harvest. I just make sure that

1) I'm not installing random shit I won't really use

2) I'm not keeping stuff that I've installed just because

3) Making sure I delete podcasts as soon as I've done a listen

4) Just manually syncing my music for what I'm currently feeling along with whatever else I want

Sure I'll have to rotate music out as I fill it up and I can't sync like 30 gigs of tunes or anything. Yet I've been getting along just fine with a ton of room to spare honestly. Plus I can just upload my pics to FB or my Skydrive to help clear out room.

It's not ideal by any means but I've had no problems so far.

8gb is really limited in today apps rich environment. That's what I have on my old iPhone and I was always deleting apps and making room. I think I have about less than 1gb left most of the time. I never sync any video and always get rid of all my photos. I think it was very bad move to launch the phone with just 8gb, the least they could do is offer "official" memory upgrade kit (ie selling certified SD card that would work seemlessly with what already in the Focus).

Anyway, I got sandisk 16gb SD card and installed it and haven't have any problem with the phone and I have been using it a lot, though YMMV.

The rep at my Costco kioske also show me the huge warning when he sold me the phone.

Apparently, Sony Ericsson has some WM7 devices coming soon: http://www.phonearena.com/news/Sony...n-their-way-flaunting-Windows-Phone-7_id14640

First up is the Xperia X7 which is going to come packing an impressive 1.2GHz dual-core Qualcomm Snapdragon MSM8260 chipset, 4.3” display, 8.1-megapixel camera with 720p video recording, and an HDMI out port. Needless to say that it's a monster in its own regard, but its design is pretty much more of the same with its rounded corners.

On the other hand, the Xperia X7 mini will feature a 3.5” display, 1GHz Snapdragon QSD8250 processor, 10.1-megapixel camera which will pack 3x optical zoom and xenon flash. Essentially, the Xperia X7 mini is more adept for the casual photo enthusiasts out there.
