The biggest knock is that it's not multiplatform. So unfair.

yeah. I mean, outside of windows and xbox you can't use it. And it only works with zune devices. (Yeah I know, ipods only work with itunes.)

But as bad as it is, my Android is recognized by windows media player. Windows media center even recognizes my android and I can synch my recorded shows to it. It's a nice option to have.

I guess they will keep zune closed to promote the phone.

Woohoo! I got NoDo on my Focus! Was really easy to do too.

Its definitely faster, copy/paste is nice, trial apps finally update, marketplace search is great, and from my initial testing, Zune doesn't stutter at the end of some songs anymore!!

This is a great first platform update. Im extremely pleased. Can't wait for mango now!

I agree wholeheartedly.

I'm looking forward to MIX and what they are going to say about Mango.

My gripes are entirely fixed by NoDo.

I can't believe I was able to add my local internet Visa card just after using an American IP (Strong VPN).

Now I can buy anything from my phone (no need for said IP too). FUCK YEAH.

urggh, can't believe my luck. just got flagged for the update here (omnia 7, on orange, in the uk) but i can't download it because the zune software seems to be blocked on my connection.
i can access the marketplace and sign in, but it always fails trying to find updates. any ideas?

'had trouble accessing the update service' is the message that appears.

are you trying to access from your phone or computer?

seems the update must be done on Zune on CPU but it sounds like you might be saying your computer is blocked?

Anybody with a Samsung Focus also have a Ford sync system?

I was able to have Sync read my texts off my phone and reply for the first month I had it and now it says "Not supported".

It just stopped functioning...allegedly the BT stack is not compatible BUT I SWEAR it worked. Even Sync CS said, "that phone does not work with text message in Sync".....bullshit... it did.

So anyway, wonder if the changes to BT in Nodo fixed it?

thanks

I have a Focus and regularly use Sync in my Fusion. I also noticed some changing functionality, but not the exact same as you.

If you receive a call, then Sync automatically picks it up. The same thing used to happen with texts - if I was in the car and I got a text, then Sync would ding and actually offer to read the text to me. However, that randomly stopped one day, and I no longer get text message notifications. Calls still work the same though.

I didn't update Sync or my phone, it just randomly stopped working one day, not sure why.

from my computer. zune works fine, i can sign in & download/access the marketplace but upon trying to access the update i've been flagged for, it can't do it. i assume a port is blocked where i am. xbox live (via the 360) is also blocked here.

yea, that is some weird chit... same sync version, same WP7 version, and all of sudden, not supported.

CS actually said, "no it never worked."

uhhhh, yes it did numbnuts.

edit:
oh and thanks for chiming in , I was starting to wonder if i was crazy.

Edit 2:
also I had read that pulling the fuse on sync for hard reset fixed the issue for some but I have not tried it yet... I mean if the BT stack is incompatible for text messages, how in the HELL did it ever work?

Incompatible could also mean unreliable or not well tested.

whelp, good & bad news.
good news is that the zune connector on the mac seems to bypass whatever block my internet connection has. odd that they seem to use different ports or something.
bad news is that it was the february update, not the nodo one. blah. ah well, small steps i guess, haha!

Downloading the February update now. :)

Here's hoping I can get the Hungary thing to connect when it's time to try for NoDo, I couldn't ever get it to connect last night.

Shit, I got the February update, but I still can't connect to that Hungary thing to try the NoDo trick. fml, it just refuses to connect to either hungary. One gives me an error 628, the other one takes a while and just rejects it as well.

Did you try another PC?

Is there an error code when the other one rejects you? If you're behind a router it might be getting in the way..

Check out this KB article here -

http://support.microsoft.com/kb/923944

628 indicates that the connection terminated on your end.. with 629 being for the remote machine disconnecting you. Maybe windows firewall is getting in the way?

I got it to work on my wife's laptop, so it's definitely my desktop. Unfortunately, I tried about a dozen times and couldn't get the timing to work. I'll try it at work tomorrow, but they have all kinds of firewalls so I'm not confident it'll actually go through there.

Any tips from you guys on how you got the timing to work on the data disconnect would be much appreciated.

Where did the get the Feb update? Not from AT&T I assume.

Some people have better luck disabling the data connection first and turning off wifi.. depends on your at&t signal.

For a lot of focus people they're waiting 53 seconds or so to turn off the data connection.

What I ended up doing was waiting about 30-35 seconds and then turning data off and on again every 5-7 seconds until I got the update message.

my zune desktop software is doing some funny things tonight, just like last night. i'm guessing i should get nodo by tomorrow like i got the feb update this morning.

T-Mobile USA has delivered. I'm getting my NoDo update on HD7 right now.

Edit: Looks like it's the February 2011 update
I just updated my HD7 too, and I'm not noticing anything different. opy and paste doesn't seem to be here, at least, and marketplace search seems the same. I haven't really been paying attention to the update process, how can I tell what version I have?

For people who are forcing the update, are you getting new firmware/bootloard/soc/etc? My understanding is that nodo was supposed to include device specific drivers and such, and I'm worried that forcing the update might mean missing these (I assume important?) bits.

Go into About phone and hit the more info button.. if the OS version number isn't 7.07390, you're not running the copy and paste update.

If you are, you need to select text and then a little icon will appear hovering above it..

Just forced the Update on my Focus.. WORKS AWESOME.

Was quiet simple..

From branded to Nodo update it took less than 30min.

Sweetness, getting Pre-NoDo on my Focus as we speak. Had to try it multiple times before it worked, didn't even have to turn off data connection. I'll stealth edit my post when/if I (hopefully) get NoDo.

Edit: Holy backup... argh.

got nodo installed. had to reset my phone though so i lost and had to reinstall everything.

marketplace is kinda slow for some reason.

i hate that you can't manage apps in zune. i wanted to download them all in zune and then deploy to my phone, but since they were all already 'purchased' i had to download them via the phone, which was slow.

They really need to fix that or have better app management in Zune. I haven't bought or download anything "off the air" since I have to reset my phone.

I can't wait to unbrand my phone. Even if I can't get no-do to deploy it will be a fuck you to At&t.

Head over to www.winsupersite.com to see Paul Thurrott stick it to the man (the same man that has been his reason for a paycheck almost his entire career). His snark is enough to put a smile on my face, I know the Windows Phone team at MS doesn't read our angry posts here, or even care. But they DO read Paul's stuff, and I hope that they are starting to see how ridiculous this whole situation is.

Paul states it well in the article. We don't care so much about this update nonsense because it's a vital update. We are so frustrated precisely because it shouldn't be a big deal. But at this point it makes me grind my teeth just thinking about how ridiculous it all is.

Harumph!

How is the usability compared to iPhone's?

Are you guys being prompted when your phone is not plugged in that there is an update? Or should I plug it in from time to time and check via my PC? (Sad ATT Customer here)

On at&t you're not going to be prompted for an update until at&t allows it to be offered to their customers.

Many of us are forcing the update through a bit of hacking and registry modification on the phone.

There is a setting that you can tell you phone to check for updates. If that isn't enabled, I don't believe you will get any sort of notification

It's funny that they basically HAD to add the ** because MS knew they'd keep getting shit from AT&T users that the update status page tells them jack. They had to do it ** style though as they didn't want to totally make it blatant and throw AT&T under the bus. LOL

Also "Early April" seems nebulous at best. Sort of like you know "Early March" LOL....

*SIGH*...

Apparently you can get the update now if you turn off data and wifi connections on your phone, connect it to your pc, open zune. Make it look for an update and a few seconds before it tells you "no update found" or whatever, turn off your computer's internet. Apparently it'll find Nodo. Turn your internet back on and update. It's working for a ton of people on xda-developers.com. i'll try it once i get home.

I hate that damn Facebook app. Every time I try to load an unread message, it crashes.

It's funny how the "premier" carriers around the world (AT&T, Deutsche Telekom, SFR) are still testing NoDo, while others are "delivering" the update.

This is what I did. Every time I turned the VPN off, I got the notification that an update is available.
