still unlocked (so far) did the block re-lock hack prior to update and rebranded back to ATT.

Don't know why but just in case.


edit:
oh yea, had to delete about 20 games/apps and all my synced data... well probably would have worked had I just removed all my synced data to start with now that I look back

Cheers, and yeah what a pain that we have to go through all these just to get the phone update. Let see if At&t testing will be done before or after the release HD7s.

I wonder why some Focus are having this problem.
 
Klocker, I'm sorry you missed my post where I said that I had to remove synced content to get the February update to work. That may have been before you started to hack the phone.

How much free space did you have? I still can't get the Feb update to work; same issue, just times out.

I have no synced data through Zune, only my email accounts (which I guess I can try to remove as well). And I have removed a bunch of apps/games and now have 4.5ish GB free on the phone (according to Zune, 5.5GB according the Focus' about screen) and it still times out.

Technically, you could have waited. ;) Waiting was just more painful than having the go through a somewhat nebulous hack.
 
Fucccckkk I had like no space at all left, and still got the update to go. Not sure if that is the problem. I had around 500 megs not counting that held up space.

Now if only we could get MS to either put out a beta of Mango over the summer or better yet drop Mango all together for releasing stuff peacemeal to us. WTB browser update more than anything.
 
I can't get Nodo via the timing trick or vpn trick. Maybe my timing sucks (i think it has something to do with the wlan switch on my laptop, it's fickle). Screw it. I'm in the delivering phase so i'm sure I'll get it soon if i just wait.

about 4.5 free when all was said and done.

If you read MS "solution" it says to also remove all extra browsers and delete, search, map and explorer history.

*** some people have been having success by removing apps. remove all samsung apps and anything that may store data. ***edit: I see you have done this already but it may be one particular APP

Go into Zune and under settings and adjust "reserved space" downward (which adds to free space) and see if that helps as well. also try a different USB port if possible, shut down Zune and your phone and reconnect. I even removed my battery at one point. I tried everything short of pissing on a spark plug. ;)
 
WP Central report that there is firmware update being send out separately for Samsung Focus for those on Roger/Bell. Let hope it fix some of the Focus problem and may be I will think about putting SD card back into the phone it's suck having to un-sync all my musics and video.
 
I'm updating my Venue Pro right now... I think I should have deleted all of my video and music files on it first... backing it up is taking a while, but at least disconnecting my internet connection did the trick to get the march update. :)

The dell venue pro is a lot more stable with the nodo update, I really hope the dell firmware update fixes all the problems.

I really hope it fixes the problem of downloading XBLA games threw a wifi connection and locking up the phone. O.o

I had that problem with katamari before I had the pre nodo update, but after that I had no troubles.

I thought T-mobile was sending out the No Do update?

So in tempting fate and the gift from mobile gods, I have restore my phone to previous update (back to pre-No Do Feb update) and low and behold the phone is back to that exact same state it was at. (bravo Microsoft) including unlock state. Though for some reason the theme setting was the one I had this morning (white and blue) and not the black and blue I had when the phone was first back up. (minor glitch).

I sideload Samsung Tools app and now the phone should stay unlock. The thing is I didn't even unplug the phone after it finish restoring and it was already detecting the March Update and ask me if I want to update the phone. So may be I don't need to do the internet trick because Microsoft is rolling out update (for unbranded phone) by geographical region also, and I happen to be in the zone that the roll out for Focus is taken place.

Anyway phone is update back to March No Do without a hitch and now it also unlock.

I am keepting it unbranded, At&t can kiss my rear.

This new Welcome screen is only partially configurable, from what we can tell so far: You can only change the background image. The display includes the time, day of week, the date (month and day), and icons for power management (for portable machines only) and ease of access. Perhaps more will be added or present on other device types in the future.

Aside from the functionality that is exposed in the currently leaked builds, there is evidence of additional features to come. For example, on tablet-type devices, you’ll apparently be able to logon using a pattern, which we assume is similar to what’s available on Android devices today. Microsoft will also be supporting extensible Welcome Screen-based audio controls, so you can control music playback while the machine is locked.

Nope, it's just bad timing since the build was made available to OEM's this week. It's been confirmed to be real. Plus, if you've been following Win8 development, that is not surprising to see a very WP7-esque image as the lock screen.

I heard they are all using a class 2 microSD card (at least it is for HTC and Dell.)

No only sending out the message that there is an update to the phone. You still have to connect it to the pc to download the update.

Yeah, restore works great. I was playing that app, it's great to change colors, though some of the app seems to kept the original color for example let said you turn pink into slate gray, the app inside color is still pink, must be how some of the the app are written.

I am still looking for a good setting toggle (turn off data, wifi etc) do you know any?
 
I got my wife a windows 7 phone last night! The arrive on sprint. I am rocking an android evo, but I must say I am a little bit jealous of her new phone. She is loving it, and already racking up some achievements.

I was liking it quite a bit. Very smooth especially coming from android(her android phone before this was way to weak to handle it). I set it up for her, put her useful tiles on top. The camera button was a little hard to use, but we might get used to it. Otherwise I have used it for a total of about 1 hour, I don't know if I have any in depth insight into it.
 
I won't be updating because I want to keep sideloading the wifi tile. I still don't get why there is no way to do this without having homebrew...

A tile that brings you to the WiFi settings without going through settings first. Not really a killer app, since you can pin the settings on your homescreen.
 
So who wants more home screens? I've got too many tiles on one page and too many apps on another. Hope mango adds more screens and more customization.

More screens would ruin the UI, imho.

This isn't meant to be "pages of apps".

I can open any app on the device with a voice command.. i don't need to go through a list..
 
i am pedantic about keeping things clean and simple. i only have like 3 deskop symbols. i dont think ill ever need more than one homescreen in WP7

If the video from the DFT is legit, then it looks like Microsoft added a seach funktion for the app list in Mango.

yea even the mango "leak" pic a couple pages back shows a search button on the app list **EDIT*** woops in the pic above this post LOL... indicating that we will not be getting pages or folders (as you said, it goes against the UI)


but a quick search will bring up the alphabet list and should be cool

oh and yea... I actually forgot about the open app voice command.. LOL
 
Does the app list have the same function as the people list, where you hit the letter and you'll get a pop up with the alphabet to jump to that section of the list?

not yet... that's most likely what the search button on mango will add



also for copy and paste into more than one location...

Handy tip that will prove useful for anyone who requires to paste copied text more than once in a single instance or across multiple apps. A hidden icon located on the predicted text bar, which pops up with the keyboard when typing in a supported field allows one to quickly paste the contents of the clipboard multiple times.
To view this icon when typing (and predictions are present in the bar), or when not typing (and the bar is empty), simply swipe your finger to the right and the paste icon will be displayed. Not too sure why this function is hidden as the average user wont know how to paste the clipboard more than once.

It doesn't and I never got that. It would be such a simple and easy way to navigate through the app list.

I assume the want to "control" the user experience and make sure the first batch of phone have uniformity as far as UI is concern. I can understand why, some color just doesn't work and make the phone unusable though more color choice would be nice.

It's interesting to sport a bumblebee yellow on my phone.
 
Finally got my pre-NoDo update to install, without having to do a hard reset. I kept uninstalling apps/games until I hit 5GB free in Zune, and then it finally worked.

I have my apps installed again and I'm running the NoDo update now.

EDIT: Damn, now NoDo is giving me issues... error 801812DD, apparently my cable or USB port isn't fast enough for the backup? Trying again with different port.

You can keep your phone unlock after update just have to edit registry so it won't re-lock. I understand your need for wifi / data tile because I find them very useful in my situation.

not one that does it directly but one of each that takes you rugbt to the settings page. I'll link them when I get home.

Not sure I understand about the accent app still showing pink? When you change the color it changes the sample.in all menus, the name can be changed to anything you want and the o my reference to the old color is a new setting that allows us to revert to default color. Which I like. ^_^

This app is huge for me because I'm not sure if its just the focus screen or me being old, but the default colors are too bright with not enough contrast for see text messages well with the white text.

So far I noticed in 4th&Mayor app, the accent color somehow retain the original color (the one you change from, said you take pink and change it to gray, while everything else that was suppose to be accent in pink is gray, some apps still think it's pink and display as such (since the gray took the place of default pink color.

I agree the app is great, I am trying out all kind of colors.

I really enjoy these homebrews stuff. My brother-in-law does some programming and he said silverlight and XNA is pretty easy to code for may be I get him to do some homebrew.
