Just used the new tool from Chevron7 team to update my Samsung Focus. Worked like a charm! It was very easy to use. Had to run the program twice to get to pre-Nodo and then Nodo. If anyone was hesitant to update before because of unbranding your phone, well now you have no reason to wait anymore :)

AT$T? Locked phone? Can you detail what you started with, I'm thinking of doing this but don't want to unlock/hard reset my phone.

So have other people with the HTC HD7 (TMOUS) gotten the update? They've been "delivering" it for days now but I haven't gotten crap. Using the timing trick and turning off my wifi and data doesn't work either. What the heck. I got a notice for the February update along with everyone else last week when TMO released it but nothing for this and it keeps saying my phone is up to date!

I also have the HD7 it did not roll out for me either so I tricked my computer into updating it. It does work keep trying.

Sweet! Nice to see MS get on the ball with the new update tool and circumventing carriers with the Chevron tool is a no brainer. I unlocked mine and am glad I did but re branded so will get any OTA firmware updates as well.

But if I did not unlock and update already and this tool came out, I'd be all over it.

well, in the end i got no-do, haha. woo! not sure if this was orange's doing or the chevron7 programme and i'm completely confused as to what my uni's blocking but still, glad i finally got it.
now to wait for mango! ;)

Everyone start complaining about Mango!
Too soon. I'd say we're going to chill this week and then next week, after the MIX11 keynote, we go in full rage mode again.
  • This is still missing
  • omg, they didn't announce my favorite feature? brb, gonna buy an iPhone
  • sigh, we still don't have a date
  • but what about the update after Mango?
  • what? my first gen device won't support it?

I still want a Pandora app. Need multitasking.

So is there anyway I can re-unlock my phone after doing the NoDo trick? The reg hack was posted after I went ahead and did it.

You could always roll back the update, unless you use the new chevron7 tool.

I think its great to have unlock phone, ready for Mango and not having to fret with my shitty carrier.

fffuuuu did I just do a boo-boo by using this tool then? Not only does it not work I now cant downgrade?

Just go to that link I post and download the program. Just remember this is essentially rewriting your ROM so there is no backup unlike unlock/debranding. Also hard reset is not required for unlocking and debrand. You might have to remove sync data if you have one of the Focus phones that time out. I imagine this will be the problem regardless even when official At&t update come out.

So basically wipe my phone? Or is there another way?

Looks like 3rd time's a charm. Ran the MS recovery tool first, and now it appears PreNoDo is installing (crossed out arrow on screen telling me not to disconnect, and a progress bar is running).

Yep ... at 7008. Time to install NoDo.

LET'S DO THIS

The ChevronUpdater seems hit or miss. My Focus is updated without a hitch. XNA apps load in half the time but Beezz opens slower than on the Surround we have. Don't care, now I can C+P links to twitter and I couldn't be happier.

...

When's Mango coming?

NoDo installed (7390)

i am excite

Had to end up tricking zune to give me the NoDo update over the weekend. Holy crap games load so much faster and the phone just seems to run a lot smoother.

Now that MS conveniently released tools that allowed Chevron to do this, all is forgiven. We now can easily update without carrier interaction.

Great job MS and Chevron.

no

he means if you did a Zune update, you then get an option to "Restore" to the previous OS version (essentially reversing the nodo update)

If you use the new Chevron tool, there is no such option.

Resetting phone to factory keeps the NoDo update I THINK but resets all other settings and wipes data.

I am reading that on XDA, and it seems if you do hard reset it will keep No Do but all the settings and data are reset including the unlock.

No, if you use unlock/debrand your phone to get the last update, then your zune should have phone backup. If you restore the phone to last backup it will put your phone back to pre-NoDo stage (7008 Feb Update). From that point you can again unlock / debrand your phone but this time either edit the register to prevent the phone from relocking or download that Samsung Tool app. If you want the phone to relock then don't edit registry but use the Samsung Tool (assuming you have Focus here).

Unlock / debrand again to get No Do then used the app to rebrand your phone if you really worry about having problem. The phone will be rebrand for if and when At&t release their official update.

Or if you don't want to do all that you can just keep using phone as is until At&t release update and you can again use restore point. Problem is you will loose all the new stuff you install since the last backup.

I hope I am not confusing you even more.

Yeah its like a breath of fresh air on my phone. Everything is so fast I'm in and out of what I'm doing real quick LOVE IT.

Any chance that somebody saved the .zip for x64 systems from Walshie's blog? It is showing as offline right now and I only just got home and able to try and download it, but now I can't get the updater file and it is driving me nuts

It's up for me

Weird, it has a strike-line through it and (offline) on the original blog post. The Windows tool is available still, but I can't click the Chevron one to download and direct links to the download give me a 404-error

Anyone else not able to download anything from zune? Theres no button to buy or trial at all. Just wondering if its my zune software thats being a piece of shit, or issues in general right now.

Edit, this is also showing up when I view the apps

it is the same on my PC zune MP but fine on the phone

Speaking of the Zune software, is there any news of a new version?

Nope, but few months back the guy that head Zune software (he is on Official Win Phone 7 podcast I think) was asking people for input of what kind of feature they want for next Zune software. So I am hoping app management is on top of that list along with better podcast / audio books manager.

I am hoping soon but go by the last few months at how "speedy" Microsoft think they are moving, I would say probably not until the end of this year at the earliest. I don't remember getting that many updates for Zune software anyway since start using it.

Zune software working fine for me, let me buy stuff , may be Marketplace was just down temporary.

So basically, restore to last backup, use the two tools and I'll be unlocked and debranded, then do the NoDo update?

Yes, but before you do NoDo make sure you either use registry editor or Samsung Tool app to keep your phone unlock so after NoDo you can still use the Samsung App to rebrand your phone. If you don't keep your phone Unlock you won't be able to edit the registry since the phone will relock after NoDo and prevent you from using sideload app.

Gah! Why has the tool been taken offline!?

At&t went crying to Microsoft perhaps. Not sure it could be his site got hammer by all the download or may be there's a problem with it. Some people here seems to have problem getting it to work.
