Mango 7720 leaked.

http://www.wpcentral.com/breaking-official-mango-7720-release-leaked-xda

Yup, this story is still developing but it looks to be the case. A poster by the name of longshot442 has posted a 404MB file which contains the official RTM build of Mango aka build 7720.

Evidently, users are able to flash devices ranging from NoDo, 7661 or build 7712 up to 7720. You do not need to restore from your backup, but instead can update directly.

Wonder if this will break the phone again..

Awesome. Some say, since this looks to be a regular update, phone won't have "Walsh" like issues. What's your opinion on that?
I have no idea how I'd walsh a phone, because I never had to use his method. I'm not too concerned about that, because I can always flash the original ROM.

awwww yeahhh

quick question: will I lose anything in the update process?
It was a very quick and painless upgrade. I think it took 10-15 minutes. The reboot process scared me a bit, because it seemed that the the phone was stuck at the goodbye screen, for like five minutes. When it finally rebooted and went into the bootloader.

Will it get rid of AT&T rom on my Focus?

Would like to know this as well.

Unlikely. It's really just an update, not a new ROM.

OK. I am interested.

brotkasten, my bro, can you make a simple guide for dummies like me? I tried to read the guide in that link but it was too confusing.

Updating from NoDo

Downloading now

I will post update on how it goes at the end.

Installed Zune (comes with file) and am now running back up.
Downloded and installed first update (Zune found my NoDo backup too)
Did 2nd update automatically
Stuck on step 7 :S and I am slightly worried.

I didn't have to do much, because I was already running the mango beta.

All I did was:
1. Updating the Zune client with the new version that comes with the package (nothing new here)
2. Updating the WP updater (it's in the Zune folder)
3. copy the RCToRTM folder to C:\
4. run the .bat
5. wait

e: I'm going to be pissed, if the Zune client that comes with the leaked RTM, is the rls version we get for the Mango release this fall.

I will be very upset if that team just sat on their ass for an entire year. Then I will apply for a job there :P

Two years, actually. It's not like there were big changes from 4.5 to 4.7.

I hear Matt Akers (Program lead for the software) talking about crap that he can't talk about on the Zune Insider/Windows Phone Radio podcasts all the time. They're doing stuff. Whether they are smart and have a big update with the software that coincides with the mango release is another question. But he's be the guy to bug on twitter to find out.

Yeah, I know. He always talks about how awesome everything is going to be. That's why I stopped listening to both podcasts.

e: I really feel like I'm already done with Mango. What was the next update? Tango? Where is it?

There's still third party apps and cards and live tiles!

Any noticeable differences between the 2nd beta and RTM mango?
Negative things first:
Remember the slight delay of the clock when you wake up the phone? That bug that was introduced with the RC? It's not a bug, it's a design decision™.

Positive:
Didn't notice anything else, lol.

Microsoft giveth (save camera settings) and Microsoft taketh away (stupid clock fade).

You know what would be awesome? If these design decisions were simply design options. Default to the fade if you must, but let me change it back if I don't like it.

I'm disappointed that I still have to delete and re-add my twitter account before new people I follow show up in my contacts..

Most of the folks I'm following are tech industry people.. so I group them into a "Twitter Only" group so they don't flood my "what's new" feed.. I can't do that unless they are in my contacts list..

Was hoping they would fix this.. it may be something they need to fix on the live services side of it.. but I'd still like it fixed.

I had the bug in both Mango betas, so it definitely wasn't introduced in the RC. It's possible, though, that it's an issue with the developer version (lacking specific optimisation for phones), so I'm going to wait until the actual release.

I've found the opposite problem is true for me: people I've deleted on Twitter (like Dvorak and Denis Leary) still showing up in my What's New feed.

You know, I've gotta say, the USA Today app is really impressive as a general news app in terms of design, live tile, what the app looks like depending on what time of the day you open it, video use, reading layout. Just a solid app.

I've been using the Huffington Post app, and the difference is stark. I do love HP, but the bugs have been around for far too long.

A manual sync of the account doesn't work either?

Skype is gonna look sweet. Quote this post to read but do not quote + respect directly and don't share it outside GAF please

I'm glad I don't use Twitter in my People Hub. Less shit I have to put up with. And yes, I tried to use groups, but then I noticed that you can only have 20 people in there. What the hell? Twitter notifications in my me tile is good enough for me.

Well that sucks. Just cracked my focus screen with my ass. Now I gotta go see what my options are at the att store.

Haha, when are the new phones coming out again?

I don't think sitting on your phone is covered under warranty :P

Why would you need more than 20 people?

I'm going to go back to mango 7712.. just in case there is something weird with this build.. cautions are being thrown around with regard to being able to update to the final version with the finalized OEM drivers, etc.

I notice no changes between 7712 and this 7720 anyway.. so there's no benefit associated with the potential risk.

Make up some lame story about how your phone volume buttons don't work and it was like that before the screen cracked.

I ve seen people get away with worse.

My HTC Diamond powered by Windows Mobile 6.5.3 showed its age today by making a small crack on the plastic back cover.

Ugh.

Give me a keyboardless WP7 phone Sprint!

That's not what she said at all...

A lot of what she says is true.

Navigation in android is better (no need to tap for the next direction.. whether or not this is to avoid paying royalties to NAVTEQ doesn't matter to a consumer.. they want real turn-by-turn directions without requiring additional user input)

A number of the complaints are from just using the phone and trying to figure out how to use it without looking anything up. People are jumping in to help her figure things out, which is a good thing. Thankfully there seems to be a help tutorial included with 7720 that will ease new users into how to use the various features of the device.

The speech complaint is valid.. on android you don't have to pause your sentence and wait until the phone is "ready" to listen to you.. it is able to parse your entire phrase.. including the initial instruction to text somebody and finally the message you want to send.

Personally, I don't mind the pauses.. they give me time to collect my thoughts and the confirmations allow me to make sure I don't send a funky text message. Another aspect of android that handles speech better is that it is tied into the keyboard itself (starting in android 2.3).. so you can use it anywhere you can input text and lastly you can use it to play audio files in android, whereas you can't use it that way yet in WP7.

Overall, her first weeks impressions put quite a few important marks in the positives column for the device and for someone who was initially skeptical and thinking that the challenge was a mistake for Microsoft, I think that says something about the quality of what microsoft is building here.

For the record, i don't use WP7 because I think it does everything better than iOS or Android.

I use WP7 for the following reasons -

1. Best UI of any currently available smartphone (speed, fluidity, content-centric,legible,aesthetically pleasing)
2. Zune pass
3. Amazing software keyboard (imo, this is the best SW keyboard on the market)
4. Social network integration (perfect for me.. I don't generate content, but I like to read it)
5. Xbox Live integration
6. Bing services (local scout, vision, music)

The UI is enough to keep me here for the foreseeable future, but the other features in Mango and further down the road will make it hard to leave.

Bummer, didn't work for me. I followed the instructions, but when I get to running the ISVTo7720 batch file, the DOS window blows up. Stops responding etc. I'm already running 7712.

Edit: After uninstalling Zune and The WP flash tool, then reinstalling both, I was able to at least run the batch file. Unfortunately, it times out at the first restarting phone prompt. I'll just stick with 7712 and rollback to NoDo just prior to the official update. For reference sake, Samsung Focus v1.3 is what I have. 18gb of free space.
