I think those are AT&Ts codenames, not the OEMs' =P
Yes, I know. The Focus, for example, was called "Cetus". Those are still horrible names. :lol

In other news: The Fujitsu IS12T is officially out. Go and get it, Japan GAF!

That road-map leak from At&t is quite depressing. They are the premier Windows Phone 7 retailers, and we are getting two new set this fall. Two ??!? One of which is just repackaged of Galaxy II and the other seems to be the equally as boring HTC phone.

How is this a big push for Mango ....

You really expected anything else? The real wait has always been for nokia and really in 2012 when they start producing multiple handsets.

The mutli-os oem's are always going to share phone designs between wp7 and android.

I've been banned for two months, but is there any word on new phones for Tmobile? My HD7 has a huge crack in the screen and getting it repaired was as much as buying another one so I decided to wait for the new phones but I'm getting antsy!!!

What did you do ?!?!

There was a leak of a new 4.5" phone coming to T-Mobiles from HTC. I think announcement is going to be on Sept. 1st.

Any of you using WP Bench? Recently did a benchmark with my Samsung Focus with a 32 GB Sandisc Micro SD card installed and got 179th place, (bad), and 101st, a score of 51.75 with Airplane mode on (average).

I'm wondering how my SD card has possibly affected performance. What're you guys getting with your various configurations/phones, with and without SD cards?

WP Bench 2 (marketplace link)

My score was bad 14.83 and 0.26MB (406 place!) using a Focus with an 8 gig Sandisc. GPU was average and CPU was bad.

its not all of the phones, its missing some phones that have been recently leaked on the android side, so there is a chance that its missing others. Trying to give you hope!

Mango love:

Now I do all my texting with voice. All of it. And I just found out I can text anyone on a meeting invite list when I am running late.

Why do people keep calling it a repackaged Galaxy II when the only thing that it can have in common is the screen? I WISH there was going to a Mango phone that comes even close to a repackaged Galaxy II.

I'm a bit more concerned about the HSDPA Category 10 than I am anything else.

i think they mean in the way they look.

Yeah, there's also a: Samsung i8350 Omnia W (October) - 3.7" WVGA display, Windows Phone 7.1 Mango, 1GHz processor, 5 megapixel camera, WiFi, GPS and Bluetooth.

Looks to be a lower end device than the one we saw already with the huge screen. Maybe this Samsung is for another carrier besides AT&T?

I laughed at justin beiber getting pushed :( Never again

I can wait then. I'd rather get a next gen handset if I'm going to drop more than a few bucks on another phone. Insurance is practically worthless. Thankfully my phone still works so I'll be okay until then. It's been like this since May anyways.

did mango open up the hardware to anything else besides qualcomm (besides supporting dual core)
Nope. The current kernel doesn't support dual-core or more than 512MB RAM. You'll have to wait for WP8 for that.

wait so there's no point in waiting for mango phones besides looks?

Second generation Snapdragons are 45nm versus 65nm (so more energy efficient), have the Adreno 205 instead of the 200 (twice as fast), and have clockspeeds up to 1.5 GHz (so up to 1.5x as fast).

Yep, better processors, cameras (plus front-facing), and bigger/better screen are the reasons I would upgrade. Honestly, it would be better to wait until next year.....but that will ALWAYS be the case, regardless of year. There will always be something way better if you wait a year.

buy it. awesome phone. and the os runs butterly smooth. i dont see why you would need to upgrade the hardware anyway

If you're buying WITH a contract, wait. It's late August, we'll have new phones in a month or so, and you wouldn't want to start a 2 year contract one year behind in hardware (for this OS).

... oh ... well... i was mis-informed. When is WP8? Next fall? I thought i was waiting for dual core devices with 1g of ram all this time.

WP8 is the next major release, so yeah, Fall 2012 seems likely. We had some rumors about an upcoming Nokia device, but those specs read like a wishlist.

We've heard about the Sea Ray and the 800, but it's the first time the 900 appeared. Looks nothing like a Nokia phone and it screams FAKE to me.

e: Why am I even posting this? It's so fake, it hurts. A lot.

I would really like it if they made it so the "Snooze" and "Dismiss" buttons on the alarm were different colours.

Takes way to much effort to actually read the button when first waking up.

I thought you were talking about the vibrate/ring switch, but good idea, send it to Microsoft. Actually they should iconify it.

Mango comes with a little surprise:

Looks like Mango still has a few hidden surprises. As you can see to the right, that's an official instantiation of Internet Sharing on a Samsung Focus running Mango.

That's the good news that it "works like a charm". The bad news is it reportedly eats a lot of battery life. Our bet is this is hidden on some devices and builds and will presumably be a carrier option.

Sounds like a carrier dependent feature, like visual voicemail.

finally. I'm buying an unlocked phone and this better be available. Should I get a DVP now or wait for something better?
Doesn't matter if your phone is unlocked or not, it really depends on your carrier. My Optimus 7 is unbranded and unlocked, but I still don't have visual voicemail support, while T-Mobile US customers apparently have access to it in Mango.

Is it available via USB tether as well?

The new Weave 3.0 news app? Pretty good. As a news reader, best I've seen.
Its good but it needs a live tile and to fix the stuttering when you scroll through the news. Has the last been fixed on mango?

ugh. what if the carrier doesn't sell wp phones? Or allows tethering without requiring any particular hooks?

does the dvp get a lot of homebrew hacks or should i expect that the phone will be ignored by the developers?

i'd like to know this too. i use a prepaid sim from a small german carrier, would be nice if tethering worked on an unbranded device.

From the Gaming side...

SEGA® of America, Inc. and SEGA® Europe Ltd. today announced that Sonic CD™ will debut on mobile phones and consoles everywhere. The game was originally released for the SEGA CD™ system in 1993, and included the first appearance of fan favorite characters Metal Sonic and Amy Rose. Sonic CD is coming to digital platforms with music from the original Japanese soundtrack. The beloved prequel to Sonic The Hedgehog 4™ Episode I is coming to Xbox LIVE® Arcade for the Xbox 360® video game and entertainment system from Microsoft, PlayStation®Network, iPhone® and iPod® touch, iPad™, Windows PC Digital Download, Android and Windows Phone and will be available for download in late 2011.

Really nice to see Windows Phone getting to a point where we are starting to see a simultaneous release with the other platforms. Hope this keeps up.

What the shit?! I thought MS and Nokia were having a conference this month!?
That's news to me. Are you talking about that Microsoft + Nokia gamescom party? That was last week and really just a party.

HTC and Samsung have conferences on September 1, Nokia World is the next Nokia event. Sea Ray always had that date.
