OK, found the information about the Fujitsu IS12T

GSM frequencies :850 900 1800 1900
Standard UMTS : 900 2100
Standard CDMA : 850 1900 2000 1xEV-DO

The 3G access will work here (2100 GHz band) but not in US, where most carriers use the 1900 GHz band.

And also, I could not translate those auctions well. As far as I understand, the US$ 410 price may be a phone with a 2-year contract plan. To free it from the contract, it may cost an additinal 2100 yens (around US$ 270).

And I did not find any information about unlocking this device to other operators.

i have yet to use mango. perhaps my gripes are with bing search and bing maps. on my friend's mytouch 4G (768mb ram, hspa+), the performance, the way it caches, the speed of google search/maps blow away bing on my HD7.
Unfortunately, Bing on Windows Mobile 6.5 blows away Bing on Windows Phone 7. WP7 Bing is pretty to look at, but is functionally retarded when compared to other versions. That is no hyperbole. It is functionally retarded.

Whenever it arrives is there anyway to find out if it is running an second gen Snapdragon, or is this false info on the Wiki page? First I'd heard of it anyway.

im assuming by second gen snapdragon they mean scorpion? I would guess that any new phone released by HTC that is still a single core is using the scorpion vs 1st gen snapdragon. But it does have a different code for it, so you would be able to find out via a list of the specs.

Edit... meh scorpion is the name for all of their cores. Ignore me. Anyway you'd still be able to tell from the processor name

That's bullshit.

Specifications: Windows Phone 7 OS, 1 GHz Snapdragon QSD8250 processor

Same first gen CPU like every other phone. The OS doesn't support anything else.

Just the voice commands alone for Mango is worth the upgrade. I fuckin can't live without voice texting. I have speech set as default for messages. The other day, I was still in bed and got a text at 6:30am. I never even got up. It told me who it was from, I said read it and then I replied without even rolling over in bed. Indispensable. Perfect for when you're driving or walking too.

Ah, that makes more sense. 400 was too cheap.

I was at PAX this weekend and couple of observation. First Xbox Live team doesn't give one shit about Windows Phone. I ask them about the lack of ability to use points and he just laugh and told me to go talk to Windows Phone guys. I told them whatever they do just don't mess up the UI with all the advertisement and he just ignore me the rest of the conversation. (Major Nelson was using iPhone)

Second, people were really curious about my phone when they see me using it. They all want to know how I like it and everyone said how nice the phone looks but they just don't want to swtich from iPhone or Android because lack of features on Windows Phone. I told them about next update and how many apps (at least most essential one). I saw one guy with Windows Phone while waiting to get into Halo Fest. We talk a bit and he's a fellow Gaffers. He told me that he saw at least 7 or 8 Windows Phone.

Microsoft had a few Windows Phone at the shows, a couple at Xbox Live area running Fruit Ninja (to go with Fruit Ninja Kinect). It was sadly definiely less presence than last year where they have big set up with people demo the phone. I think it's a big miss for them as everyone I talk to all intereste in Xbox Live feature of the Windows Phone, especially those that heavily into 360 eco. They could really make a big impression with what essentially huge gaming nerd but nope. Only other Windows Phone I saw were two really old beat up one of Dell Venue Pro and I think a HTC surround at James Silva's booth (really nice guy). He was surprise I have Windows Phone. The phones were running demo/beta of his zombie game. (He was showing off Vampire Smile and his next Xbox game Danger Dave - super fun Castle Crasher style beat'em up with loots)

So at the last Xbox Live panel on sunday, I was charging my dying phone (convention is brutal on phone battery) and a guy next to me was of course asking me about Windows Phone. He said he try the one downstair and they weren't working right (because Microsoft just have couple shitty broken one for demo) and he was left unimpress with the phone.

Oh supposely according to that fellow Gaffer, Windows Phone team was there handing out t-shirt to people that show them Windows Phone. I look for them where he told me they were but didn't see them, so I assume they were just there for a day. Again, what a miss opportunity to advertise the phone as a cool portable Xbox Live.

PS: Mango works splendidly for my trip. Navigations, Bing local search and battery saver, I didn't realize this was in Mango until I was running out of battery on the first day at PAX.

SO, I was talking with the devs of Skulls of the Shogun (one of the better looking XBLA titles at PAX) and they dropped an interesting tidbit. After the game released this winter on Xbox they intend to release a PC and a...

wait for it...

Windows Phone version! I'll post a link to the audio when I edit it. But I'd thought I'd share that for now.

I played around with the IS12T this afternoon. It was my first time using Windows Phone 7 and all I can say is wow... I love the interface. I wish I had waited on my Galaxy S II :p

The phone itself is OK. It feels a little bulky to hold and the screen is a little small for my tastes though. I'm excited to see DoCoMo's offerings!

Fuse is out on the marketplace. It's pretty cool, wish the transitions could be faster though. What's with these rss readers without google reader support?

Go to settings, you can add your Google account info there.

Does anyone know if there's a way to get the Netflix App even if you cannot connect to the US marketplace? I have a German Xbox Live Account and recently got Netflix to work here in Germany. Watching movies on my device would be really cool but I think it's (currently) not possible, or is it?

Is it a real Google Reader client, or does it just allow you to add feeds that you subscribe to in Google Reader? I'm curious if I read something on Fuse if it will show up as read in Google Reader. I got the impression that it didn't.

Which theme have you guys decided on for Fuse? Having tried them out, I favour Ipsum above the rest.

VanMardigan said:

Ah, wasn't obvious where it was. I think the UI of Fuse could use some tweaking, I can't tell which articles are read and which aren't using the Ipsum theme? Also there needs to be a faster way to switch between articles.

Also more apps coming to Mango. Including an IRC client and a remote control app for Zune software.

It hasn't let me add any of my folders/groups, just individual feeds. Kinda of a bummer, because I love the UI.

Wonder Reader has Mango fast app switching and deep linking, so I'll use that as my Google Reader client for now. I can set one of my FEEDS as the live tile, and go straight to it. I can't wait until more apps get that sweet Mango update.

Windows Phone Team Blog details changes in the Photo + Pictures hub for Mango

Detailed list:

Camera:

Autofix—Apply some common photographic fixes to a picture, on your phone, in one tap.
Touch focus and capture—Tap any spot on the screen to focus there and take the shot. (This varies according to hardware—some phones will have tap-to-capture but will still automatically center focus.)
Sticky settings—Save your custom camera settings for next time.
Ability to mute the shutter sound—Good for taking pictures at those school holiday pageants (not available in all countries and regions).
Review pictures above the lock—Snap a photo when your phone is locked, then take a peek at it above the lock. You’ll only be able to get to photos you just took—better for security.
Changes for portrait orientation—Now, when you take a picture in portrait orientation, you’ll see it in portrait orientation when you review it.
Pictures:

Video sharing—Send your vids in email or post them to Facebook or SkyDrive.
Twitter integration—Tweet your pics!
Easy picture tagging on upload to Facebook or SkyDrive.
View and add tags on your friends’ Facebook and SkyDrive pictures.
Integration with the People Hub—View your friends’ albums on their contact cards and on Group cards.
People view—See snapshots and albums from your favorite contacts in the Pictures Hub.
Personalize—Tag some favorites and choose Shuffle background in the Pictures Hub, and you’ll see your favorite photos on the Hub and on Start.
When you choose a photo from within an app, you can now pick from online albums on Facebook or SkyDrive, not just pictures saved on your phone.
Quick access to the Camera Roll—Before, it took two taps in the Pictures Hub to get the photos you’ve snapped. Now it’s front and center.
Apps pane—Developers can register their photo-related apps to show up in the Pictures Hub for easy access.
Autoshare to SkyDrive changed to Automatically upload to SkyDrive, which you can turn on to upload a lower-res version of every picture you take to a private location on SkyDrive.
Pin any album to Start, including Facebook albums.

Edit: also good to see device integration coming soon to SkyDrive looks like, just as I was whining about it. Link!

Thanks I had it on bluetooth and headset only which didn't seem to work when connected to any of my cars.

It works for me most of the time, but occasionally it would not be able to sync to my car bluetooth.

Photo feature is really nice, I used it quite a bit at PAX when lighting was poor.

Microsoft released the Windows Phone connector (for Mac) 2.0.

1IOoh.jpg

Here's a list of improvements:
Features:
• Full sync and import support for Apple Aperture software
• Drag and drop import of files from Browse Device
• Ringtone transfer support (for phones running Windows Phone 7.5 or later)
• Improved video conversion process with user configuration options
• Support for Windows Phone Marketplace (for phones running Windows Phone 7.5 or later)
• Localization support for 13 additional languages
• Improvements to backup and restore operations
• Improved configuration for podcast sync and photo import
• Improved iTunes import support in certain languages
• Improved metadata support for videos

Fixes:
• Added additional error codes and help references for device update
• Resolved connectivity issues with certain devices
• Resolved album art display issues for certain devices

You can download it from the Apple Mac Store:
http://itunes.apple.com/us/app/windows-phone-7-connector/id415571499?mt=12

Tom Warren, owner of the WinRumors blog, noticed that the connecter links to the web marketplace, which has yet to go online.
Web version of the WP7 marketplace must be imminent. The updated connector for Mac points to http://beta.windowsphone.com/marketplace
We can hope that the web marketplace will be ready for the Mango launch.

The reminder about the web marketplace, the SkyDrive device management and the KIN Studio port makes me think that Microsoft could phase out the Zune software and replace it with their web technology and HTML5/JS apps. It would also make a "Mac version" much easier.

And here we have some Nokia news.

Nokia's head of developer marketing in the US started a poll to let the users choose the name for the next Nokia handset. Not only is this kinda unprofessional (imo), but it also indicates that an US launch might not happen in 2011. If you think that I'm too negative here, the latest rumor from WMPowerUser seems to indicate the same.
What is somewhat new (but also not completely so) is that this will only be a European launch, and that US customers will have to wait till 2012, after Mobile World Congress 2012 (which runs from the 27th February till the 1st March) in Barcelona before Nokia WP7 handsets will reach US shores.
http://wmpoweruser.com/us-nokia-windows-phones-only-coming-after-mobile-world-congress-2012/

WMPowerUser also got another tip about the Nokia 703. It's a blurry image from some marketing material and includes the specs of this mid-range device.

nGUB5.jpg

The listed specs are:
3.7" clear black display (means AMOLED) with 800x480 resolution
512 MB RAM
8 GB storage
5 MP camera

While the specs are underwhelming, there's no need to freak out. Last week, Nokia introduced the 700 series as their 200-300 Euro class. The N9 copy, codenamed Sea Ray, is supposed to be an Nokia 800 series phone. The question that remains, is this picture fake or not? It could be fake, but what makes this leak a bit more credible, is the device listing in the "I'm a WP7!" app.
The stable of Nokia Windows Phone numbers keep growing--we have the SeaRay (number unknown), the 800 and now the 703. The latest showed up on the app "I'm a WP7!" by Scott Peterson (v2.6 just passed certification), which collects user model data and he kindly aggregated for us.

Of course we still don't know if these are all separate models or just variants e.g. a CDMA version, etc. We're actually leaning towards the idea that these are all different models, seeing as they have completely different categories i.e. this isn't a Nokia 801 vs 803. Still, we don't want to be premature on the issue but Nokia may be getting read to hit us big with Windows Phones.

Then again, that picture could just be a reaction to the post on WPCentral. We'll see.

On NoDo, tip and hold the background in the picture app until a popup appears. There is a menu for that in Mango (choose background, or randomize).

I really do hope they get rid of Zune. It's a great media player but it's absolutely horrible for device management.

Agreed. And its the opposite problem for iPhone users on Windows: They get a shitty, slow, bloated media player but a wonderful device management tool. *sigh*, guess you can't have it all, :(

They updated the WP OS X app and they made the icon a square. A god damn single color square icon…

What's your problem with it?

U.S. Files Antitrust Complaint to Block AT&T, T-Mobile Merger

The U.S. government sued to block AT&T’s proposed $39 billion acquisition of T-Mobile USA Inc., saying the deal would “substantially lessen competition” in the wireless market.

The Justice Department complaint was filed today in federal court in Washington. The U.S. is seeking a declaration that Dallas-based AT&T’s takeover of T-Mobile, a unit of Deutsche Telekom AG (DTE), would violate U.S. antitrust law and a court order blocking any arrangement implementing the deal.

“AT&T’s elimination of T-Mobile as an independent, low- priced rival would remove a significant competitive force from the market,” the U.S. said in its filing.

AT&T fell 96 cents to $28.66 at 10:31 a.m. in New York Stock Exchange composite trading.

Man, Windows Phone 7 3rd party apps are a HUGE weak spot, and we are one year in. So disappointing. This is the first time since I've owned a Windows Phone that I wished I had Android or iPhone instead.

It was my daughter's first day of school, so obviously I snapped a bunch of pictures. Now I want to send them to my wife (who unfortunately could not be here) and the rest of my family, but NOT Facebook. I'm thinking mms is not ideal, neither is emailing everybody. I'd rather have it up somewhere really nice, but now I'm at work, and I don't sync my phone with this computer. I don't want to use the low res versions on windowsphone.live.com either, so I'm looking at third party apps to help, and they failed. Hard.

Photobucket: Fails to upload the pics consistently
Pikchur: crashes, plus you have to select pics individually
Wordpress: Got my post all done and configured, then crashed while saving.
Flickr: Slow upload, crashes if you attempt multiple simultaneous uploads

Looks like I'll have to wait until I get home, sync to my PC, then upload to Wordpress from there, then share. If FB app allowed me to have the custom sharing option, so that I could share these pics with ONLY the people in my family group, I would do it that way.

Also, I'm going to eat crow right now: I defended MS' use of low quality pics for their automatic uploads, but I was WRONG. They should upload the original file or don't bother. I can't think of a single scenario where I want the low quality version.

Maybe there's a solution where you're not realizing there is one. iOS has this cool app called Zapd. It's basically a extremely simple blog tool with (beautiful) templates. Whenever I go on vacation or have something nice to share I use that app, throw up pictures and a few sentences and email the link to everyone. Everyone thinks it's the coolest and most amazing looking thing.

If there's no picture upload solution maybe there's something similar and different like Zapd?

How about e-mailing the pictures to yourself, then accessing that e-mail on your work computer?

Could be an easy solution, assuming Win7 gives you the option to e-mail the full-res version.

But you missed the point of my post: There ARE apps that do what I need, WordPress would've been perfect. The problem is they all suck when you push them. A simple post with text, uploading one pic, etc. would've been no problem in these apps for the most part, but when you do something even remotely more productive, like multiple pics, they all crash and burn. I'm going to sound crazy, but the reason this app problem hasn't been a huge deal in the press is how gracefully apps crash on WP7. They just flip away and take you back to where the app is, and you can start the app again right away. It's not irritating, like when an app freezes or crashes on Android.

I don't know if its the SDK, if its MS' fault, or what, but 3rd party apps are very superficial and powerless in WP7. They look beautiful and flow nicely, and basic functions work just fine, but take your favorite app and do something complex with it. Push it a little bit more, and you'll see it'll crash on you. MS isn't giving these apps enough system access, which is great for stability, but bad for the apps. If you are doing something and the phone times out and you get the lockscreen, 9/10 times you have to start your operation over, even IF you enable "run under lockscreen". 3rd party apps in WP7 are mostly just window dressing. Don't dig deep.

What does this even MEAN? Are you trolling WP7 now? WTF?

I really do think its going to be better in Mango, no doubt. I have two 3rd party apps that have been compiled in Mango and both are much more stable, much more functional. I think that if these photo uploader apps had the ability to upload in the background, it would've made all the difference this morning. And if the Wordpress app could have been more stable (which I think Mango give it the opportunity to be), it would've gotten my post up without crashing. Wonder Reader is great, and that once useless app that comes with Samsung phones (Samsung Now) now has a working live tile, two secondary live tile options that deep link into the app, plus it does fast app switching, it scrolls better, and is more stable overall. So yeah, I could be delusional, but I think Mango will bring along more powerful, more stable, more useful 3rd party apps to complement the stellar and incomparable 1st party hubs and apps.

Did you have a G1? Honestly the quality of which apps are available already to WP7 is a huge difference to the first two years of Android, which I personally feel really started @ 2.1 but can't please everyone ;)

as d:ream once said things can only get better (we hope)

Anyone know what time the conferences are starting tomorrow?

Edit: NM, found it. It seems that a lot less has leaked about the Samsung event, so I'm most curious about that one I suppose. Hopefully something spiffy.

No Microsoft release is complete without a good old delay.

Yes, that's right kids, Microsoft delayed the Mango release!

It was supposed to be released tomorrow (matches with the previous rumors and the mac connector release today) with the announcement of new devices from HTC and Samsung, but it got a new date and that's September 15.

Read more here:
First, we just heard from a fairly well known commercial software developer who makes an app on Windows Phone (as well as Android and iOS), that the Mango release/update has been delayed:

"The (omitted) Windows dev team has just learned that Mango is delayed until September 15th."

We were surprised to receive that info because (a) we didn't know what the previous date was (September 1st?) and (b) we didn't even inquire about it. Once again, this isn't an indie developer but a commercial software company who works with Microsoft directly, so we take their word as truth on the matter. However, we're still not 100% clear on what that means exactly.

And freak out in 3 ... 2 ... 1 ...

Not that I give a shit. The Mango RTM runs fine on my Optimus 7 and I don't have the NoDo backup anymore (the Zune Client update got rid of it), so yeah. :D

What samsung event and when?
