Why all the delay? I dont get it... Why not just announce the thing when it's near done? Take the Apple approach, announce it a few months before - release it to the dev's to beta test and then release. Execution... Get some!

I feel like I've been reading about Mango for like a year now and nothing to show for, damn...

It's not even an official delay, because there was never a release date. Microsoft officially announced Mango in April, said it would come out "this Fall", released a developer beta in June and the RTM for developers three weeks ago.

iOS 5 was announced in July and it's still not out and still doesn't have a release date. So this time it's really not that different from the Apple approach.

Well, that's a bummer. Anyone get the RTM install to work on a Focus 1.3? I tried twice and it failed on the rebooting phase. Kept timing out.

My focus is a 1.3 and it installed mango perfectly fine... didn't require any special tricks.

I can make due with the beta for now, but gonna suck to restore to my NoDo backup and lose everything I've done since.

I cringe every time I have to open this app to check my data usage.

They didn't announce anything, it's a rumor and leak date. Official release date for Mango hasn't been announce by Microsoft.

Yeah, the keynote just ended without a Windows Phone announcement. Thank you, DJ Lee.

Because it's not set in stone. Easy as that. Imagine they announced September 1 a month ago and now it would've been officially delayed. They want to avoid that after the NoDo disaster. They'll announce it when everyone is ready to launch it.

Well after waiting for my HTC Mozart to be delivered it finally arrived today, and, it's going back.

Bought this phone off eBay as being brand new with no marks on it at all but, there are scratches on the screen, a mark on the camera button and a mark on the rear of the case so it's going back.

My 5th phone this year :\ May just wait to see what comes out of IFA and then plan ahead and just stick with this shitty iPhone 3G for a bit longer.

I have an HTC HD2 with Android at the moment. I'm not having issues with it, but I would love to have a Metro ecosystem. Meaning having a WP7 device, a Windows 8 tablet and PC. Only thing is that Windows Phone 7 US and EU (or at least where I am [Holland]) are feature wise two different OS'es.

Having said that I'm curious to how WP7 will be presented at IFA. There is a HUGE potential for WP7 to work with other Windows based devices.

It's also kind of annoying to experience the negativity towards the system. For example, how pathetic is it that a consumer educates a salesman at a phonestore to what the capabilities or the device are. The salesmen here really have no clue to what WP7 does.

This is gotta be the cluster fuck. MS is gonna hold it back until ALL of the companies are ready to go. Yet if you're say IDK HTC and got your shit already you're fucked waiting on say IDK Dell getting their shit done. You're basically hamstrung by the slowest manufacturer by design.

Don't forget the carriers.

they did announce a uberphone with 720p screen and 1,4Ghz Dualcore. You are just looking for the wrong OS ;)
Semi-related, one of my friends was convinced that his Windows Phone was dual core until I pointed it out to him that it wasn't. Go figure.

Also, easyTube has been updated for Mango. It's probably the most functional YouTube app in the marketplace, but it's plagued with performance issues. I'm going to quickly install the Mango beta to see whether anything has improved in that regard.

They already showed that Samsung phone at the other event, why not actually announce what it is?

Maybe they or Microsoft thought it wouldn't get enough attention? Maybe Microsoft wanted to save it for the Build conference (September 13-16). We can only speculate at this point.

WPCentral added another point:
Lets add a 3rd bit of info. Back in July we speculated that the AT&T Dell Venue Pro was not going to re-ship till end of August due to it getting a Mango update (it's been "out of stock" for weeks). Now if you go to that page the preliminary ship date is...wait for it...September 15th.

Hardware probably wasn't final.
Also, I'd like it if Microsoft gave manufacturers some room to differentiate themselves, software wise.

Good point. I didn't really mean software wise as in Mango/No-Do/Vanilla, more like software as in appearance. They could be tied to each other though.

Why? They can change the accent color and they can add preloaded (albeit removable) apps. I don't want some manufacturer thinking they should remove the tiles or something equally silly. Leave that to Microsoft and then let the users have a homebrew system where appearance can be changed if need be.

What I want Microsoft to allow is difference in hardware. 800x400 is pitiful in this day and age. Blackberry and webOS are the only other phones still stuck at that quality.

I see what you mean, but I'm not a fan of any sort of OEM modification. Too much customisation and device-specific software and you'll start seeing huge fragmentation issues like with Android. I'm happy with the current system and I'd even be happy and Microsoft allowed OEMs to modify certain areas, but opening up the entire OS would only cause trouble.

What resolution would be used, though? If we're keeping the same aspect ratio 1280x768 would be ideal, but I don't know whether that's even technically feasible.

I'm working on an app for windows phone and I'd like someone to take a look at it. You must have an unlocked phone to use and it would help if you know a lot about fighting games (combos mostly).

If you need more info drop me a pm.

@Greyface&NotTarts

Nah don't think too extreme as in removing tilestructure and so forth, more subtle changes that lets people see hey this looks different than that. The first impression you know. I can't think of an example, but hey OEM's pay people to do that for them :P

Anyone tried an app called Tasks? It was okay before, but now with it's Mango update it's incredibly useful!

I love those secondary tiles that deep link into the app, I didn't realise how useful it would be until I tried it.

Because there is no launch date...

For those of you wondering when Mango will officially launch, there is no one answer as we will be launching Mango via the carriers and each carrier will have its own timeline (and before you ask, I don’t have any info as to when that will be for Rogers, Telus and Bell ). The general target we are all looking at globally, however, is later in the 2011 calendar year.

Well Samsung just announced a 5.3" 12800x800 display today, and their leaked roadmap indicates similar resolutions for 4.5". I personally don't care how many mountains Microsoft has to move to mka eit happen. All I know is that iOS and Android have had retina displays for over a year while WP7 is still lagging behind.

And the HTC Omega/Radar

Uh, microSD? I've seen a couple of upcoming phones with expandable memory in their specs but I didn't think WP7 supported it.
WP7 supports expandable memory, but not hot swapping.

Online retailers, what do you expect?

Urgh. When does Samsung plan to announce their phones if not today? No a 5.2" device does not qualify as a "phone" thanks. And we already know enough on the Android side (Galaxy II LTE, Nexus Prime). Not to mention the Galaxy SII is still a good buy for that. I want to know what the follow up to the Omnia and Focus are ._.

Wasn't there a fiasco with the Samsung Focus? Is the situation going to be the same in these newer phones? I'm curious because I remember Microsoft explicitly stating that WP7 didn't support microSD cards (unless it was integrated into the phone like with HTC phones).

I have a Focus and I've been using this card with zero issues since about a week after I bought the phone.
