They've already spoken about the situation.

Spoken like true losers, you know.
:/ They are still touting the GSII. If Verizon has an exclusive on the Galaxy Nexus in the US, I will rage. I'm going to plunk down for a Dell Venue Pro and check back on the newer phones after Christmas.

I'm fine with Nokia stuff not hitting the U.S. until 2012. I'm sure they want to initially release in areas that are more exposed to their stuff historically. Hopefully when they do hit here they do so with another new phone and a well developed marketing push, though. I believe they'd said they want to put out new phones quarterly beginning in 2012.

Meanwhile in Germany.

We are just two days away from Nokia World 2011 where Nokia will reveal their first set of Windows Phone devices. Hype is really building up surrounding Nokia, and adding to that is the latest report from the German Business Week, who spoke to some German Mobile heads who uniformly said that they were impressed with the device and felt it exceeded their expectations.

“The phone is characterized by a cool design and great build quality,” says Niek Jan van Damme , Germany business responsible for the management board of Deutsche Telekom, “I’m sure that Nokia can thus build on previous successes.”

Even with O2 Germany CEO René Schuster, the unit has left a good impression. “I am particularly impressed by the design and simple user guidance,” says Schuster. “The device will stimulate the market. We would like to offer it in the Christmas season.”

Freenet-chief Christoph Vilanek, one of the largest distributor of Nokia in Germany felt Windows phone on Nokia would stimulate sales : “Nokia starts with this device back where it left off before the crisis – at the top in quality, design and functionality “raves Vilanek.

Mobilcom-Debitel would “adopt the device in December as a top device and promote it in TV and print publications.”

Another quarter which is a holiday quarter no less without a new flagship device doesn't bode well IMO for WP7 in NA.

No Nokia phones in US until 2012?

Microsoft releases Mango, plans big relaunch, advertises on TV, it's the holiday shopping period, their competitors are releasing big phones... and Nokia doesn't deliver.

How big are the holidays for phone sales compared to other quarters? For some reason I wouldn't think it's as big of a deal as many other electronics. Besides, this smart phone game will be a very very long one and I think that Microsoft will live through a year or two of soft sales in order to position themselves in the long run. If they've lost this much money on Bing/MSN so far then I'm confident that they view this stuff as an investment that might not pay off right away. If Microsoft and Nokia don't feel they're ready to make a splash this quarter then I'm okay with giving them until 2012. They know what they're doing a lot more than I do. I won't be upgrading my phone until Apollo hits and a new high-res, dual-core system hits anyway.

Besides, who knows? I'll wait until Wednesday to see what the official word is. Hopefully there are some release details instead of just previews.

The US gets The Samsung Focus S, Europe gets the Nokia 800. Seems fair to me.

nokia always said they'd try to release a wp7 phone by years end in the US, in limited release. who's to say this isn't happening still? just because they haven't hired an ad agency yet? perhaps it's a soft launch of the 800. lets wait a couple days and hear it from nokia.

what ever happens, I always though nokia would come into the US wp7 with a bang. a flagship 900 series model, not the 800.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but I don't think they ever mentioned the US. They spoke of "selected markets" and "six different countries at launch", but never specifically mentioned the US. They said from the beginning, that they'd try to push out a phone by the years end and that's what they seem to do.

Holiday is the biggest quarter for phones. For example iPhone last year sold 8.4m in Q3 and 14.1m in Q4, a huge increase. The recent 4S sold over 4 million in first three days of release. Seems like a huge missed opportunity to not have a flagship Nokia phone out for the holidays in US.

I don't think they can afford to slack off, MS's competitors are going to sell millions of phones this quarter and all those users will be "locked in" to that eco system. Once they purchase dozens of iOS/Android apps, those users are more likely to stick with that platform rather than considering alternatives like Windows Phone when their contract is up.

How is Microsoft and company okay with this happening? The hardware is what SELLS THE SOFTWARE!!!!!! Is Nokia and MS really that stupid? Any and all interest I had in WP was based on Nokia getting their shit out the door this year. I really hope they deliver!

If you haven't noticed. MS has been fucking up every turn. (in marketing the phone)

GDGT event this Friday night in LA at the Nokia Theater tweeted that the event will show new mango phones. oh, just because it's at the nokia theater doesn't mean nokia phones will be there. ATT is the main sponsor so the Focus S should be on hand.

Van must be fuming, back there in Banland. :D

Poor Van, what did the poor guy do anyway?

I was really afraid of that when I heard the marketing money for Mango for UK market and nothing was mention about US. I think MS gave up US and hoping to push Windows Phone oversea and going into cheap handset market like China and the rest of Asia.

...which is f'ing up. Marketing is very important, esp. when you have no "buzz" around your product.
To be fair, the pre-mango OS wasn't that great and there aren't any mango phones out in the states.

I'd expect more of a push when the second gen hardware comes out of hiding.

Are any of the Mango phones available in the states yet?

I know that AT&T is getting the Titan and the two Samsung phones and those are not available yet.

And I am damn sure theyl find a way to screw that up as well. They're already off to a terrible start.

Looks like I'll be an Android user next year.

Recently played around with a new Android device and its performance is not as bad as people claim it to be.

That sad part is, i might be. If they don't bring phone to Canada then I have no reason to swtich. It's that or go two months without a phone. And I am sorry if I offend any droid users, but I think it looks ugly. It's a great platform for phones, but it's ugly.

On a nice screen, Android can be very pretty.

The stock apps, maybe, but then you launch a third party app and waddya know, completely different interface.
For me it's not just the apps. It's the default ui. It feels half baked at times. If your gonna have more than one home screen, why set a min/ max for how many you can have. Some people don't want more than one home screen. And why would phone makers want to stop people from rooting their phone.

Can on LG phones. I also have a Launcher which looks exactly like WP7. :D

I just tried a compass app on my Omnia 7, and it sounds absurd but I think the directions in Australia are upside down... East is West, North is South, etc, etc

Sorry yeah that's what it was talking about, my mistake.

http://blogs.silverarcade.com/silve...-a-windows-phone-7-game-have-a-fallback-plan/

edit: on the other hand it appears that you can have a game start off free then charge for it later, you can't do that on Android and would be a big plus for me.

They aren't really a second class. It's definitely true that MS makes a distinction between "Xbox Live" and "Indie" games. So far, most of their deals of the week have been XBL games. However, in the featured section, it's 50/50 on whether indie / XBL games are shown (right now it's 3 indie and 3 XBL).

I have tons of indie games on my phone that I love to play.

Plus, if you write your game in XNA, you could also release a version for the Xbox as well. Platformance does this and I own them all. Great platformer and I love that they're on both Xbox and WP7.

I just downloaded Samsung's 'Now' app... wow! The weather section + live tile is almost better than the official Accuweather app, and the rest of the functions are pretty top notch too. Also, no ads.

Nice, but I would prefer to have folders in the app list rather than the start screen. it seems cleaner that way.

Is the spotify app out for windows phone 7? I'm seeing conflicting stuff.

They showed it on stage at MIX touting the 7.5 features so hopefully it wont be missing too much longer.
