After the Omnia 7 I'm done with Samsung phones. I can deal with some issues, but shitty QA is not one of them. At least I know Nokia will deliver on this front.

That's why I might be leaning towards the HTC even though I think I'll like the screen on the Focus S more, the build quality of the phone is probably better, and the internal parts are probably better quality.

With the Nokia Lumia 800, I've decided to take the plunge. Finally gives the OS the device it deserves.

Any reason I shouldn't?

Anything I have to be aware of before ordering? Any bad surprises that await me with WP7?

Can anyone comment on the ability to use Google services, like gmail, maps and contacts on a mango phone? Is it doable, pleasant or just not worth it?

I guess Nokia changed more than just the font.

...not too bad.

Does anyone know when the 800 will be available in UK and on O2 ?
I would prefer this rather than the iphone 4s.

I was looking around, seems like it might not be coming, maybe they got too burned on the Pre.

The 800 preorder page is being hammered, good sign? (UK)

No preorder yet on the French site :(

edit: The Phone House (France)

499€ with 50€ cashback from Nokia until the end of the year, and if you order today you get a free Monster headphone worth 199€.

Yeah, fuck that. Also, I didn't get that the 420€ figure was pre-VAT. This is Europe, not the US, why are they giving us pre-tax figures? :( No way I'm spending over 450€ on a new phone if all it has is 16 GB, and no FFC.
Wow, you have 20% VAT? Sucks. It's 10% for us in Australia, which isn't too bad.

Not too fussed about limited specs. 32/64GB and a FFC would be nice, but not essential. Its just dissapointing that my carrier of choice doesnt carry the phone and there are no sim free options on launch day. Although that french deal sounds amazing.

So the Omnia 7 will work on AT&T perfectly?

Where's the cheapest place online retailer to get an Omnia 7? Ebay?
Cheapest place to get it would be eBay, it's not sold anywhere in NA.

I don't think the Omnia 7 supports AT&T's 3G bands either; it only supports the European 3G bands iirc. It should work fine for voice calls, messages and data on the slower 2.5 Edge for both TMobile and AT&T but that's about it...

I think I will buy the Lumia 710 for my mom, she'll love it! As for myself, I'm really on the fence. On one side, I have this perfectly capable HTC HD2 which I'm happy with, on the other side I'd like a Lumia 800. I have my HD2 for about 2 years now and I wouldn't mind another two years...

I wasn't totally sold on the design for the 800, but I've come around. Granted my Focus works fine so I'm not updating till next holiday season when my contract expires.

Still biggest two things for me would be that the 800 comes with 16 gigs stock verses the shitty 8 gigs for my Focus, and the bigger thing is just the camera jump. I got a feeling that the 8 meg with the nice lens will end up being a crap load better than my Focus. Don't get me wrong in bright light the Focus CAN take some nice pics. It's meh in non ideal conditions during the day though, and the camera blows in low light at night.

The Omnia 7 supports At&t's 1900 3G band, so you can get 3G no problem.

I'm thinking about getting the Lumia 800, but it doesn't have a front facing camera, no flash or silverlight in the browser and no skype/googletalk integration. So most of the stuff I do with my 2 year old Nokia N900 isn't possible with the latest flagship phone? Doesn't really feel like an upgrade then

Yeah mine worked fine but I didn't use any 3G at all this summer, only WiFi.

We need international standards, badly.

Yup, those Nokia phones sucked pretty hard.

The lack of front facing camera on the Lumia 800 is mind boggling. Their site lists the back camera as the "main camera" implying a secondary camera exists but doesn't mention it. Does anyone know if there is a FFC or not?

Silly me, thinking they would release a good phone, if Nokia made good phones they wouldn't be going out of business.

It's a shame really, I like the N9 design, I just wish there was good hardware inside that design.
