Leaked Features:

Kid's Corner

Kid's%20Croner.png

Kid’s Corner will evidently be accessible on all Windows Phone 8 devices by swiping left on the Lock screen to enable. Once done so, a new virtual environment is enabled that has preloaded (and approved) games, music, videos and apps for the child to use.

Those are but three examples as any developer can add this feature to their application. What’s more, it can be based off of geo-location, time and pushed updates, giving quite a unique and super useful experience for Windows Phone users. It’s “glance and go” taken to the next level, in our opinion.

3rd Party Lock Screen Notifications

It should be of no surprise that Twitter and Facebook are both there. After all, the two popular social media services have been baked into Windows Phone for a long time already, seeing that extended with these notifications is to be expected. Regardless, it’s still cool to see them there and we’re sure many of you will be excited over the new feature

SDK Leak

What to Expect:

Pricing and Availability for -

Nokia's Lumia 920, 810 and 820.

Samsung's Ativ S.

HTC's Windows Phone 8x and 8s.

Music management surprises. In this week's Mobile Nations podcast (Passport) Daniel hints at an unannounced music syncing feature.

And a few other "surprises" ;)

Was definitely going to purchase one of these but the release window was a little late, and the iPhone 5 was right around the corner. It's probably just the achievement junkie in me talking anyways.

People who like the new stuff in Windows 8 (people tile, messaging, social network integration, etc) should consider getting a Windows Phone.

Hopfully after this Nokia prices etc. start happening. They are pretty much the only phones you can't preorder yet.

Oh and the stuff that they haven't formally announced yet but leaked/rumored, live lockscreen, sync app, kid's corner(?), drag and drop file management?

I want a Windows phone because I like the UI but I've become so tired of all this Microsoft secrecy. Hopefully that ends now once and for all.

Judging by the windows 8 launch event I'm expecting another waste of an hour. Or better still, more previews of apps we need but can't have yet.

The difference between that and this is that we already know everything and for this, we don't know anything. Big, like huge, difference.

Of course, not knowing anything doesn't mean there's something...

Really? The SDK leaked I think we know just about everything; Lenses, VOIP integration, TellMe APIs, C++ support, Live lockscreen backgrounds, 5 custom notification icons on the lock screen, NFC...there's probably things I'm forgetting.

That's not just from the leak either they confirmed all that the last time they announced WP8 (except the live lockscreen stuff)

I really love WP, but it feels like its been a long time since I've enjoyed one of their presentations. Always the same stuff. "And this is a live tile. It now comes in 3 sizes!"

That was the developer conference though, they haven't had an event for end user features. Joe Belfiore did indicate there were more unannounced features at the dev event.

Microsoft press events lately tend to reshow things most of us already know about. They were still explaining functions of the people hub, 1.5 years after launch. I know they're doing it for the mainstream media...who wrote articles all over he place about how great Facebook integration is in Iphone.. when it's been in windows phone for 2 years now. That must be frustrating.. but really.. it's hard for the more educated consumer to watch.

I totally forgot, I have a buddy going to this and I'm going to try and get him to take pics and send them to me. If he does I'll post them here.

Hoping for some solid UK release dates for the 920 and Ativ S.

I've been patiently hanging on for either of these new phones as my Omnia 7 is on its last legs.

My partner recently picked up a Galaxy S3 and it's awesome.

If we dont get solid release dates soon im gonna have to abandon ship.

Hoping for pre orders today... Please Please!!!!!

I'm not really expecting much in terms of pre-orders, pricing, and availability. That's mostly location- and carrier-dependent and the launch event isn't really suitable for announcing information for every country and carrier.

(On the German carrier mobilcom-debitel the Lumia 820 and 920 can already be ordered both off-contract and on-contract and they'll be available within two to three weeks)

Sure it is

Would love to get a new Windows phone.. im still rocking the LG launch phone from WP7.. I get my phones through work so gotta find a way to get a Lumina 920 from them.

Apple's taglines are bad, but other companies trying to imitate them are even worse. "Meet Windows Phone 8. Again." Do they want to make it sound like their product is old hat? Or are they emphasizing how bored you'll be?

Just over 4 hours to go. I'm fasting for a wellness screening at work today so I'll take my "lunch" at 1pm. I think I'll snag my Surface and hang out in the lunchroom.

I'll never get the infatuation carrier have with rounded phones especially when it makes less sense with the Metro UI. Do they focus group this crap?

I want a Windows phone because I like the UI but I've become so tired of all this Microsoft secrecy. Hopefully that ends now once and for all.

I can say the secrecy has been extreme even WITHIN Microsoft - I have worked on some things for Windows 8 so I kind of consider myself "on" the Windows 8 team, I have access to all the Windows 8 documents, etc, and yet I have no idea what is going on with Windows Phone 8. Completely different team, I have no access. I would love to be able to know what they are doing with gaming so I can bitch at them, but unfortunately I am as much in the dark as everyone else. Hopefully I can be pleasantly surprised during the launch conference.
