Black Rock Shooter 06

The first 2/3 of the episode was totally super terrible. The story and writing in this series is really amazing. It's like what would happen if Hideo Kojima was a huge fan of the OVA, and was given free reign to reimagine a TV series based on that complete with his most outrageous fanfiction take on where the direction of the story should go. Truly... amazing.

The action this week was really good though. Some really creative shots, and great effects animation towards the end. But the final 1/3 of the episode storywise is totally WOW. Somehow even though it was totally STUPID, it worked. I'm actually pumped for next week's episode.

After watching the preview for next week's episode, I'm even more pumped. I think this is proof that if you eat too much bad food, you end up liking it. I am a victim of my own inability to walk away from this. Only 2 more weeks. COME AT ME MARI OKADA!

I hope the show can continue this streak so we can place the finished product on THE LIST.

It does, but let's wait until we have a little more material for the masses first. Like a trailer for example. Instead of a NSFW website background.

Sounds like a good way to start a thread that would have to be immediately edited.
Haha, we'll see.

Perhaps you'll chose some kind of image that democratically highlights all the (potentially) great anime airing in spring.

Perhaps.

Brushing one's teeth has been ruined forever. You can't really ruin brushing other people's teeth because that's a pretty unusual occurrence to begin with.

No, it's definitely ruined forever. SHAFT set the bar too high, and even if we never see the deed depicted ever again, we'll still know that it could never be as great.

CGI spaceships has ruined mechanical spaceship design forever.

The solution to this is clearly to use CG for everything so that we no longer have to worry about the jarring contrast between 2D and 3D. It did wonders for the believability of the otherworld in BRS!

This is a BAD idea.
Also using CG is no excuse for shitty spaceship design. the Bentenmaru looks pretty cool.
The airships in Last Exile were fucking awesome too.

I'm okay with Knifeships as long as they take the design in a crazy direction and give us Swordships, Pikeships, etc. When a fleet comes out of warp it'll look like the Gate of Babylon.

Yeah they pretty much just need to vary it. I mean the knifeship itself is awesome, just...make something else too.

From what Duckroll said about the latest BRS episode and what I just watched Guilty Crown, it's like Hideo Kojima jacked Noitama hour for this week, wow.

Cannot unsee Mio's morbidly obese leg

You're letting your leg fetish show.
It's ok
They did a big anime girls BMI measurement once and K-on girls are the thickest and most true to life
Some chicks just have obese calves
See what I mean.

But computer generated imagery gives designers the same freedoms as traditional animation! I'd say lazy design has ruined spaceship design forever.

Well, I wasn't entirely being serious. Though I do think CGI space battles as they are typically used in anime are nearly always 100 times worse than traditionally drawn space battles.

No anime avatar, no remember.

Sorry Dresdon

Sir, I must say that seems a little harsh. Especially when we know from various other threads that people with anime avatars are looked down upon as disgusting sub-humans who's posts are barely worth glancing at.

I don't really see many good examples of CG space battles, so I'll have to agree with you on that point, maybe.

We need to go deeper!

Speaking of deep, I just jumped into the world of black Rock Shooter. you are solely to blame for this.

The first episode wasnt that bad but Im starting to see the lolz.
I love the little derpfaces and the overall style of the show is moe as hell.
The action sequences really are pretty amazing. I'll keep watching this until my eyes and ears start bleeding.

Putting in effort seems to still yield similarly terrible results these days:

I suppose that ship/mecha design is ruined forever no matter what.

I actually really liked that design.
Cant wait to see what else they come up with. Its at least a unique design and not just another big robot humanoid shape.

New Tsuritama CM is out.

Definitely looking better than C.
It looks good, but it still looks way to traditional-looking for nakamura, at least it isn't as ugly as [C] though.
You might be disappointed. All the announcements I've read today describe it as a bold revised take on Lupin the Third that leverages specifically on the adult flavored eroticism in the source material. Fujiko's sexuality is one of the key points of the series' themes.
And I don't mind it at all.:D

I've been thinking about this, and also CGI/hand-drawn aerial battles, since watching Honneamise and then The Princess and the Pilot. I think part of the problem is CGI giving animators too much freedom, as well as a decline in talent available.

The thing about old-school space/air battles, is you were forced to think carefully about every shot. If you wanted a new viewpoint you had to draw it. So, you would end up with either nice, hand-drawn animation, or a lovingly rendered still frame with a ton of details on it. But the point is, you had to put lots of work into it.

With CGI, now you can essentially just film your model from wherever, add some stock CGI explosions and cannon fire, and call it a day. Obviously there is nothing technically stopping someone from putting just as much work into this as in the old days, but the point is, they're not forced to, so they tend to do what's easier. And the new freedom to rotate things all over the place is highly overrated.

So much "hype" for this week's episode, I hope it can live "up" to expectations.

Sorry my parentheses key is broken, I don't know why that happened.

Can it really be called hype?
Maybe just that the show is as bad as people expected and they're revelling in the awful?
