Ungrateful infidel, you should be thankful to Master Umakoshi.
It's not like the original character designs looked their age to begin with. Seiya was supposed to be what, thirteen?

It's not their ages that bother me, it's that Umakoshi seems to have taken the "cloth" part a little too literally. Why does everyone look like they popped their shirt collars bro-style when it's supposed to be armor?

One day I realized that sadness is just another word for not enough coffee.
Well, I guess we better start brainstorming clever names for OT3.

Because it looks fabulous. Its just how he prefers to design it, and it works pretty much.
I like it when designers do something a little bit off-kilter. Keeps it fun.

I don't think it's the age he's complaining about. The designs are just not Saint Seiya.
They are different but I don't think they'd be out of place in the original series. They are just more... angular? Like, the clothes and the hairs and all that shit is definitely Saint Seiya when I look at it.

Mmm you have a point there.

Which would be fine if this was an original series, but it's based off a rather large franchise with certain expectations. Going so far to change things up isn't always a good thing.

Perhaps not. After all, Cajunator will be the only poster posting at such a speed, I know that no other posters in the thread will match that and there's still several thousand posts to go.

Casshern also had a popped collar, you know. Umakoshi loves popped collars!

Honestly, it's not so much the designs that bothers me as it is the art style. I always thought the rugged and manly art style being at odds with the bishounen and feminine character designs was really something special. Now it just looks like a Magical Girl series with dudes.

It's just armour/cloth. I think we are going to judge this cartoon on different merits than how fabulous it looks.

Plus, Heartcatch's designs were very different from every other Precure before it and it worked for the best.

It's not about the quantity, but about the quality.
N64 kid here. :(

What happens when there's superior quality and quantity?
Vita kid. It hurts.

I think that Jex might have just thrown down the gauntlet. Is anyone just going to stand there and take that we're not going to make OT3?

I'm growing chest hair just looking at it.

Well popped collars are the epitome of badass.

Ghostlighting is continuing his series of posts on Cowboy Bebop - currently he's at episode 18 (see here).

Now, while I may not agree with every aspect of his writing style or approach I feel that his carefully considered, episode-by-episode run down of the show is the write approach when trying to tackle a series. Most importantly, he's examining a work long after it came out - he's not trying to dash out a quick impression of the show that came to him 2 minutes after he watched it. He's gone back, re-watched the material and approached more seriously.

I find this kind of writing far more useful and interesting than the 'here's my imageblog' approach of many anime fans.

Oh man, you're making me so hyped for this. Just thinking of the stylish fights we'll get... my excitement is leaking out all over the place.

I understand this whole internet thing is quite new for some Japanese companies. At lest they're getting their.
Things like the spectacular high-definition images from the Hyōka gallery remind me of their long way to go on that matter...

I need a new HispaniGAF.
The latest thread on this forum from Goya didn't end up well, right?

It's funny cause watching Casshern Sins I remember thinking "man, a new Saint Seiya would look awesome with this style". I guess you really gotta be careful what you wish for.
As you, many saw that connection and wanted to see Mr. Umakoshi involved with the franchise, and each step on his career has been one more closer to that goal. Was it maybe a collective wish so powerful it had to be granted?

No, it's kind of the opposite of throwing down the gauntlet. Throwing down the gauntlet would be challenging another poster to a posting competition!

It looksl ike those glitches in Forza where the front of the car stretches all the way down the track and polygons start flying everywhere.
