Yeah, I mean I wasn't crazy about the franchise before (until Lost Canvas) but this is completely missing the point.

Dezaki really took "working with no animation budget" to it's logical conclusion, but in a good way.

It just kept escalating as the episode went on, amazing episode.

Maid gets hired, looney woman gets jealous.
Maid starts having an affair with the doll (WHAAAAA!?)
Looney doll maker goes crazy and starts stabbing... the doll and murders him with her chisel, for cheating on her (wait wut!?)
Doll pimp turns into a monster and Miyu kills it.
Mansion burns down, and while it's burning down the maid and looney woman kiss and become lovers (wtf!?)

Not quite, it wanted to be some melodrama that moved people to tears, and I understand from youtube videos that it was successful.

Well, with Usagi Drop you know what you're getting into, right? It's a show that can be neatly surmised in a single line, you can even glance at a screen-shot to easily confirm what ideas you might have about the show.
Trapeze, on the other hand, is a rather eccentric work with a very peculiar art style. Glancing over a description of a set of images wont really let you know if it's the kind of show that you might like. You really have to try it for yourself - and I'm glad you did.

I don't think it's the age he's complaining about. The designs are just not Saint Seiya.
I have 4 days straight of free time in which I have few obligations.
Pretty soon I will have SEVEN days of free time every other week.
