What? I had to honestly search these words up and first thing it sent me to was Yaoi related material. I have never heard these things in my life.

Well, now it makes sense why you thought Inazuma was a pedo show. It's time to set you on the path of Yaoi!

I like Vivienne too.
Silk is kind of boring and loligirl is...scary.
Well the whole show is scary in general. But AWESOME.
Don't you think?

You already know what I think of this show, Cajunator. :3

Well I didn't think the show was, but if you guys can explain this "Yaoi" to me I'll listen.

I actually watched some anime today. It was only Ano Natsu episode 1, which was much better than I thought it would be, but still... must every plot and relationship development be signposted by the first episode of a romantic comedy like this? You immediately know who likes who and the plot developments are incredibly predictable because of the whole premise of the show. Is it too much to ask for to have at least a modicum of suspense in an anime romance these days?

Chihayafuru has a modicum of suspense. Of course, romance isn't its main focus.

If I had to pick one hnngghh show from the winter season out of these two, which one should it be?

Rinne no Lagrange
or
Ano Natsu

I vote for Ano Natsu - it's the more confident of the two.

Ano Natsu

Rinne is a terrible show.

Ano Natsu is an enjoyable, if somewhat predictable romcom. It's filled with cute, entertaining, and enjoyable characters. Definitely go for this one.

I would recommend checking out Moeretsu Pirates if you haven't, it's my favorite show of the season along with Ano Natsu. It's full of hnnnnngh, but no classless fanservice, unlike Lagrange.

Ano Natsu.
Easily.
Maru and Wan are powerful, powerrful things, but ano Natsu gives you a choice between several very hnnngable characters, inclusing a big boobie alien, an adorable sadist, a drunken friendzone girl who occasionally wears cat ears, and other surprises!

I agree a bit of unpredictability can do wonders for a show, but sadly in the hands of bad writers this often becomes "pull plot twists out of our asses" syndrome. So while it's more predictable, I'll take the formula that establishes itself upfront and just concentrates on executing it nicely. ^_^

Well they are children, and if these people are sexually attracted to the characters.. It mostly depends on if you find being attracted to a young looking drawn character traits of pedophilia.

That's an incredibly large if you've got there. Existence of Inazuma Eleven hentai =! evidence that every female otaku in Japan is schlicking to little boys playing soccer instead of, y'know, watching the show because they find it entertaining and maybe has some harmless boy-moe. Enjoying something that's abnormal for your age range is not an indicator of any deviant tendencies whatsoever, which I would hope you would have already realized as an unabashed fan of chidren's toyetic series. Fujoshi/shotacons are a subset of female otaku and are as non-representative of the whole as lolicons are to male/all otaku.

You've previously insinuated unkind things about adult Precure fans as a whole and now this. I really hope that you're just not realizing how loaded a term pedophile is and don't actually intend to imply what people think you're implying.

Ok I will watch Ano Natsu. Thanks guys

I was considering Moe Space Pirates but I was off put by the slow pacing that people complained about. I will probably marathon it when it's done.

The slow pacing is really only in the first few episodes, the pacing has been entirely satisfactory once you get past episode 5.

Actually, I would recommend it over both of them, however it does start out very slow if you arent a fan of technical details. Myself I like these sorts of things to be explained, so I enjoyed it. It does pick up around episode 5 and from there it is a lot of fun.
and a lot of HNNNNG.

I don't think suspense is a necessary element in a romance in like regards to "who ends up with who" it's the journey that matters; unless you are talking about suspense in reference to that, in which case I agree with you.

I'm was talking about if they find the characters sexually attractive not if they find them moe or attractive. I also did not intend/try to insult Precure fans and it turned out to be a misunderstanding. I have watched Precure and I'm fine with the series, I have nothing against it or its fans.

I honestly don't care if someone finds young drawn boys sexually attractive or not, I did not mean "if they find the characters cute they're evil pedophiles", and I have no intention of calling someone that's different from me out.

If you find it wrong that I meant to say that people that find young drawn boys sexually attractive are pedophiles I'll take it back. I have no reason to fight someone over the internet about anime, I'm not here to insult people, fight people, and have a bad time. You guys are cool people, and I can see why you responded like this so I'm sorry about that. But like I said I have no intention of getting into a fight, even more with people that I like.

Sorry about the long read by the way.

As long as you realize that when most people say HNNNG or :cajun on here its not a sexual attraction, nor a pedophilic one. If you can accept that we can get along.
Cute things are cute. Anime exploits this to a remarkable degree.

It's definitely a marathon show and not a watch week-by-week show. Sure it has the technobabble, but there are infinite better ways to explain all of it in the duration of 5 minutes (and one time) instead of over 5 episodes (and multiple times for the same exact thing). Digging back to older anime is teaching me the wise ways of how pacing should really be done.

Also the pirates manga basically starts with the content from episode 6 and beyond, while all the filler from episodes 1-5 (in the manga) is actually just told through really short flashbacks, and not drawn out, and not repeated.

I heard there's a new Shinichiro Watanabe anime coming out soon, and it's about jazz. Has Yoko Kanno back. Slice of life is my favorite genre in anime.

Should I be excited?

Those Fujoshi must really love this franchise.

It's really good, a lot of its fanbase seems to be children (duh), but as you said pedophiles seem to like it as well.

I think this all stemmed from the fact that you (seemingly) implied that anyone who wasn't a child who was watching this was a pedophile. The term fujoshi isn't synonymous with pedophile.

I'm certainly not trying to be antagonist towards you, but it rankles a bit when, either intentionally or unintentionally, it's implied that simply enjoying something that was intended for a different demographic means you're a pedophile/lolicon/etc, and so i just wanted to clear that point up.

I think you answered your own question. But if you need another reason, it's the first production of the new Studio Mappa, founded by Masao Maruyama as a way to pursue the creatively ambitious projects that his old studio Madhouse was no longer able to do due to financial troubles.

True. If I'd taken the time to write out the rest of my thoughts rather than leaving it there, it's that shoujo/josei is often much better about this kind of thing. Perhaps it's the nature of shounen/seinen romance?

I think the problem with AnoNatsu's establishing plot is its reliance on apparent archetypes. "Childhood friends" are SO overused that their emotional arcs tend to all be similar, particularly in the case of a show like this where the whole point is that the protagonist and the alien fall in love.

Then the bishounen guy and the shy girl with big tits (god, I can't remember any of their names!) will have some kind of slow-burning subplot until their mutual attraction is revealed, because their entire story is signposted through every single character interaction they share. There's nothing romantic about it because their chemistry is inorganic.

The only character who is mildly unpredictable is Remon, but she's the least likeable of the lot of them.

I sound like I'm incredibly down on the show but it was still a lot better than most other shows of its ilk.

But
the "bishonen guy" quite clearly likes Kanna, not Mio. Which of course doesn't exclude the possibility they end up together, but it's not quite the way you're putting it.

I didn't mean that and I wouldn't say that intentionally. I'm not a huge hypocrite that's in extreme self denial and I don't care what kind of anime people watch. People can watch whatever anime they want. I understand why you would be upset though, getting insulted for watching anything would piss me off.

I understand what you're trying to say, but you seem not to be differentiating between fans of moe, which is not inherently sexual, and the quarters of these fanbases that actually do harbor sexual feelings toward these characters, with the further implication that adult fans of series like Inazuma Eleven are invariably in the latter category.

The "is 2D lolicon synonymous with pedophilia?" issue isn't what was being addressed here and is a pretty dangerous can of worms to open in general, I think we just want to clear up the misconception that adult fans of children's series are always motivated by perverse sexual desire.

There's really nothing to worry about as far as getting into a spat with other members here goes, it happens all the time and there's virtually never any actual bad blood. It's not like you're marked forever because someone disagrees with you on something :p

Also AnimeGaf, I'm thinking about preordering this for around $450:

Does it seem extremely high for 26 episodes with animation fixes, 4 bluray discs, a PS3 game, and an art book? Also, would buying it from a secondary market be cheaper?

I have never imported bluray anime before but I know it reaches really high prices.

I aint bothered by the bounty thing. Our team got caught, but every team does it. Im not bothered that they think Im a creeper either. To be honest, they are a pretty harmless group, and most of the "hate" is just typical fans hating other competing teams fans. I have developed really thick skin over many years of internetu, so not a whole lot really gets to me on a personal level. I detest misinformation though.

No. thats a pretty good set.
I'd pay for that if I was interested . Its much more worthy of the cost than the Fate Zero set, which has some sort of production book, a music CD and the BRs and not much else. This comes with a game, that alone is worth $50-70 and a whole 26 episode series.

Yeah I understand that someone doesn't have to find the character sexually attractive to think it's moe. Similar to my response to another poster I don't judge people for liking shows out of their demographic. Something doesn't stop being good just because your not in its demographic.

The problem is the definition of "moe". Actually, the real definition seems to imply some sort of sexual attraction to make a girl your "waifu", which is why I try to steer clear of using the word. Even if thats not what it means to everyone, its a loaded word. HNNNG is not really. HNNNG just means "oh my god that is so fucking cute my hearts gonna explode into candy"

Which raises the question of maintenance. If we're to say madhouse went under because of nonconformity, what change in the market warrants the belief that Mappa will do any better? Straddling the line with big names, adaptations and established interest such as Apollon is one thing, but after that?

I always wonder about that when a director jumps to a new studio. How do we know the director wasnt part of the root cause of Madhouse's problems and his tactics might also endanger his new studio? Or even the way that Madhouse might have done things could be reflected in how this new studio does them, which won't make it any more successful in the long run.
I guess as long as ex-Madhouse learns from their mistakes, the new studio will have an opportunity for a fresh start.

My friend wants to know if he'd be unwelcome on AnimeGAF for enjoying full-blown crushes on characters instead of just moe.

They freaked out at Utena of all things? I mean, it's a little weird, but not really freak-out worthy.

Sometimes I worry working from home on the internet for 10 years has left me out of touch with standards of normalcy.

$450...for 26 episodes
Sounds like a good deal to me compared to most shows.

*I may be out of touch on this, too.
