Haly

One day I realized that sadness is just another word for not enough coffee.
British "Cuisine" sucks. When I visited London the best restaurants I went to were, in order, a French place, a Spanish place, and an Indian place.

Fuck fish and chips. Real talk.

I just assume most Britons largely live off tea and Jaffa Cakes.

Jaffa cakes are wonderful, America misses out on so many good European treats, like Kinder eggs and Nutella.
yeah, technically you can get Nutella, but hardly anyone actually eats it in the states. /generalizing

Steak and kidney pie.

British cuisine would look more delicious if it wasn't for all of the organ meats. My stunted midwestern American palate can't handle it.

I love organ meats.
I like insects too. I realllllly want to try roasted waterbugs in Thailand.

This all leads me to want to resume Toriko :(

Forget Europe, people in the States need to stop ignoring the treats that comes from their own continent.

Tres Leche cake mmmmmm

How is that even possible? Everything gets cool names but looks odd, ie, Rondo towards Destruction. Regardless best tennis oriented episode thus far, hated the outcome. Irie is the best actor indeed, enjoyed it much.

How common are cajun restaurants?

Where I'm at, pretty common. They're not quite as openly franchised as some other food specialties however. About two to every smaller town, not uncommon for them to be family owned. In larger cities, you get your quite large, mainstream Pappadeaux's (or three) and maybe five, six in sensible driving range within any one of 'em.

Maturity, bitches.
How can people not like a good roast? British cuisine in basically a mix of other countries foods much like the language. Heck fish 'n' chips is not originally British. Besides we have Ainsley so we win the world of cooking 20 times over.

Talking of the British I came across this anime oddity the other day. The BBC did four comedy dubs of Lum the Invader. This is localisation to the extreme. If you're not British you won't get most of the jokes.

I've never had cajun food in a restaurant outside of Louisiana.

How did we get on this subject again?

I guess there's a dearth of activity in the anime world until spring.

The Light of El Cantare
Nichibros 08:

Not a pleasant episode for the entomophobic.
HAVING AN ASIAN HORNET LAND ON MY FACE IS ONE OF MY WORST FEARS OH GOD GET IT OFF ME AAAAAAAAATTHGHHGHHHHHH

Several laugh-out-loud moments this episode, foremost amongst these probably being Hidenori's overly-frank admission that if he could do anything once, it would be
to piss his pants
. That really caught me off guard.

Yanagi
getting schooled by
Nago
was a thing of beauty. This show continues to amazingly savage the cute-girls-doing-cute-things concept.
I think that there are more instances of girls puking in Nichibros than all other anime combined.

Nichibros 09:

Hidenori and Student Council episode? Yes, please. First half was kind of slow but the second half is some of the best stuff in the whole show.

Poor
Eri
, hah. The revelation at the end of that skit was the perfect way to totally upend that cliched mono no aware scene.

And, as always, Nichibros proves surprisingly relatable. When Hidenori
couldn't find his glasses because he'd pushed them to his forehead
, I could only think how many times I'd been there.

Do I even need to say anything about the student council? DIABOLICAL.
Ringo totally had it coming.

Nichibros 10:

I think I laughed through the entire show. This episode was GOLDEN.

Dat first skit. So much shame. So much desperation. Some really.....unpleasant sound effects. And
literary girl making Hidenori's life a living hell without even realizing it
.

And as if we hadn't had enough,
literary girl continues to dominate the episode. She's almost more HNNNNNNNG than I can stand at this point. I almost feel like Hidenori is avoiding her so that she doesn't embarass herself further at this point, because she's just digging her hole deeper every time they encounter each other. She still can't get over how utterly twisted her initial fantasy at the riverbank has become, and it provides increasingly-amazing materal for the show each time.

Motoharu's sister is still kind of a bitch. I feel sorry for the guy. At least
Yanagin getting Kinniku Buster'd FOR REAL
brought some justice back to the side of the boys, even if
Karasawa may or may not be paralyzed now
.

The times I've had from local smaller cajun places has been positive. Yet, I've never been to Louisiana, probably tastes even better there.

Fresh local cajun food is amazing. Theres little other cuisines like it.

Toriko should have a cajun episode where they hunt for gigantic crawfish.

There was nothing particularly remarkable about this ep, but I didn't feel that it was at all boring either. Something's a brewing though, that's certain.

I have a friend with a deep love of enjoying terrible things. This was an opportunity.

Garzey's Wing

I wasn't really prepared for this.

I knew the dub was bad. It was pretty gloriously bad, which made the whole thing watchable. There's a real joy in trying to make sense of the convoluted translation. And some of the voice acting was fantastic. I particularly liked the older guy in the tribe, who always looked impassively stoic, but consistently shouted his lines like the conductor of a high school marching band.

It also really showed me things I take for granted. The editing in the first ten minutes of Garzey's Wing was the most manic, incoherent mess I had ever seen. The transition between Chris entering the world of Byston Well, to the tribe escaping through the forest and being pursued, to the tribe escaping into the swamps, interspersed with Chris at home, was total goddamn nonsense. It was like a full episode's worth of footage was left on the cutting room floor.

Beyond that, there's not really anything remarkable about it. I thought the idea of Chris basically bringing modern scientific knowledge to this primitive world was a cool one, but everything else is so grossly incompetent that it doesn't redeem the work creatively. Good thing there's that dub.

Also, that ending is just awful.

My sword is incredibly dull.

Sailor Moon 11
OlkbG.jpg

Rei and Usagi make an excellent pair, poor Ami got left out for most of the episode, and her special attack isn't as good as the others. :(
nlU6R.jpg

this is why you don't harass little boys in the middle of a park

Jadeite is beginning to run out of time to collect energy, while on the Sailors' side, Luna has no idea how to find the princess. Rei and Usagi once again are in synch as they both give up right away. Ami is the only one with brains in the group, but she gets completely ignored most of the time. At least she gets to carry Luna around wherever they go.

Tuxedo Mask has successfully started his own harem.

And speaking of totally not related to Tuxedo Mask in any way, Rei figures out in one episode what usagi hasn't in 11.

Rei also happily joins Not Tuxedo Mask in making fun of Usagi. Poor Usagi, she didn't do anything to deserve such harassment.

Whoever wrote this really likes doing creepy things to body joints, especially necks.

Requiem from the Darkness 8-9

Nothing I haven't said in past reviews. I appreciate its dark supernatural nature, even with life lessons under the skin.

Is this worth picking up? I remember watching a few episodes when it aired on either SyFy or [as] and I enjoyed the dark mystery aspects.

It's a good dark mystery series. The art style is delightfully twisted and rough. The variation of mysteries (and the legends behind them) is a treat (though they all lead to murder).

That said, so far I wish it was less episodic. There's a small amount of story detail that jumps from one episode to the next. There seems to be an overarching plot starting up, but it's the 9th episode out of 13. I think a more major overlying plot starting earlier could've made it better at this point, but that's me.

In short, yes, it is worth your time, but can get a bit too "cut and dry" in overall story flow between episodes.
