Hey it's not like you need to watch Rose of Versailles first or anything.

You do, however, have to watch it at some point, because it's a great show regardless of it's connection to later works.

What's it about? No one seems to know.
Hard to take anything that starts out like this seriously. Or even as enjoyable pulp.

Reminds me of roleplayers in MMOs taking it all too seriously. Fanfiction for all!
Just treat it as pulp fiction.

Any decently-sized city in America will have no shortage of Mexican, French and Italian restaurants, but how many British restaurants are there? I mean yes, things like fish and chips are popular here, but how often do you see a "gourmet" British restaurant? That doesn't mean British food is bad, necessarily, but it certainly doesn't have the kind of culinary popularity that those countries have.

It's about as popular as American restaurants.

Is it some kind of hipster thing that's ironically bad?

Nah. Ok well i'll spoil the hook if you guys really don't care so people can know if it'll be entertaining or not. I mean in and of itself it's nothing great, but it can be a fun read if you go in without expectations.

They're playing the release of the first Virtual Reality MMO on the day it comes out, and notice that the log out button has disappeared. They start panicking until the head creator of the game tells them that they can no longer log off and that if they die in the game, they'll die in real life. The only way they can get out of the game is if they kill the boss of every floor (There's 100 floors). The paragraph Dresden posted is from the prologue that takes place 2 years after this happens.

Well that premise is kind of obvious, I already kind of guessed as much. It's still pretty bad writing, although I wouldn't expect much better from an amateur translation of a Japanese light novel for teens.

I mean it's not entirely bad. Perhaps I haven't read enough bad fanfiction, but I do agree that the Prologue's writing is bad. I wouldn't count it out just from that, though.

omg erryone new SAO anime character art!!!

Well the good thing about visual mediums is that prose doesn't matter, unless you insert it through voiceover. Dialogue could still be a problem, but then, anime dialogue is almost universally bad.

The pre-OP sequence was the wildest yet:

FpYws.jpg

The episode itself is the moment when shit goes down.
Ooba has been an increasingly sinister presence lurking on the sidelines, and here he is finally unmasked as the villain behind everything. His ambitions are not just to take over the Kifuuken, which he succeeds at, but also to hold power over Japanese society at large. The medicine which has been coming into greater and greater focus is revealed to now be sold on the mass market, and we see the deadly consequences.

Kenji Nakamura was an excellent choice for director. The severity of the situation is driven home by his style. There are cuts between a person and a closeup on a physical object important to them for some reason:

HzzzT.jpg

prhv9.jpg

Closeups on a small part of anatomy with detailed attention paid to its movements:

qiK26.jpg

Characters in striking and contorted poses:

dzQxe.jpg

The way the movements of the above character, Ooba, are treated, in their defiance of physical laws, are reminiscent of the way Nakamura treats the main characters of Mononoke and Trapeze. In the convenience store scene, where he's wearing those teddy ears for no apparent reason, he's particularly similar to Irabu.
In all three shows it gives the characters an otherworldly air, given a darker spin here.

Another facet of his style put to impressive use is parallelism linking scenes throughout the episode. The first example is
between showing a series of ordinary people as they are taking the medicine, then later showing the same locations in the aftermath of the resulting bloodshed.
A more impressive example is
the Kifuuken's kitchen table at meal-time. The table charts the fall of the Kifuuken: at first they happily sit down to eat, then the background news entered as a discordant element, then the members lose their enthusiasm, then the numbers begin to dwindle, Rie stops bothering to oversee the meal, and finally it becomes totally deserted.
Powerful stuff.

Righto. It'll be a fun anime if the source work is any indication. The writing is awfully generic but the battles should be fun.

If the screenplay just reads from the page, those prose are still a problem.

I know it's cool to forget all about [C] but it's pretty clear that Masakaki is a character that possesses the same air.
Let's at least commend Bioware for making an anime that will look good this time.

Lets not jump to conclusions. Those are just designs!

The disgusting, soul shatteringly awful garbage that is James Vega is going to be designed by Yoshinari?

No. I think the character designer is Tokuyuki Matsutake. Yoshinari is doing the alien and mecha design. The human character designs are kinda shit:

I don't really think that will be assured. Look at how the Krogan design went from the base design to the animation design:

All detail is lost and it looks like generic animu.

Yuri Seijin Naoko-san

Uh... that was certainly something. I've not yet determined what.

The musical was awesome, though.

I've determined that Naoko can be my bro. Milfs!? I couldn't care less about that! ...Now, let's find out where you hide your dirty books.

That's exactly what I meant, Branduil. It's just what happens in pretty much every case.

One day I realized that sadness is just another word for not enough coffee.
So do these animu krogan pilot ganmen?

Because that's what I'm seeing.

You're talking like there's no such movie as Mardock Scramble.

She's the Major's mom. I guess I should've traced all the lineage.

Why did they think everyone wanted Mass Effect and Dragon Age animu? We're just going to get more list watchers who think Angel Beats is the greatest anime to ever exist :(
It's a fun light read, try it! (It'll also answer your question heh.)
Should be fun then! I'll get around to it.

This show is better when it's just about killers killing people, and relatives of said people getting revenge, and the bad people then getting rid of loose ends. This supernatural stuff isn't cutting it. That whole first segment was incredibly smh worthy. Luckily, the shindig in the brothel after that was alright, so the ep wasn't all bad. I'm still waiting for Akidzuki to snap and start muttering at a mile a minute.

too bad they did not just make a animooted version of this.

but seriously why isn't the animu about anyone other then vega. Honestly I would rather have a Kawaii uguu~ Liara or Tali animu.

Milky Holmes S2 ep.10

Haha fucking Spirit Bomb. There's been quite a few special attack parodies this season, DBZ, G Gundam, etc.

Figure 17 4

That clicking noise the maguars make is starting to creep me out. If I heard that in a survival-horror game, I would get the fuck out of the area.

Lol, Kanna, taking that from Akidzuki was NTR legit. You know how he feels about that. Shit got real in this ep, and while things were already moving fast, it looks as if things are really going to start moving.

Princess Jellyfish 3-11 (end)

Somehow everything about this clicked with me--I bought the drama, I enjoyed the comedy, and for some reason I found the prime minister hilarious any time he went into giggling fangirls mode and either called someone -pyon or asked to be called -pyon.

The inevitable romantic angle came up, but never really dominated the parts of the storyline the anime covered.

All in all, a nice straightforward comedy about a group of (female) otaku with various interests, the cross-dressing son of a political family who hangs out with them, and how they all fit into the world. Really glad it got licensed, really hope it sells decently.

Nice choice to watch. Princess jellyfish is adorable. I plan to get the series soon.

The supernatural stuff is the weak link of the series. But even so, I found it very enjoyable. Solid characters and good historical setting.

It's always nice to see people check this show out. I've heard the manga's pretty good so you might wanna check that out too.

Yeah, up to that ritual segment in 5, I had few complaints, and was really enjoying myself with the series. Still am, really. The characters aren't all that solid yet, but I'm only on ep 7 atm, and the bases are definitely in place for them to get there. It's not really giving any one character that much screen-time.

Awesome. I just finished this show last week. The lady and I both enjoyed it, though I found the ending to be a little weak. No serious complaints though. Very cute show. I'm gonna check out Ano Hana next.

Gotta warn you. Ano Hana had a lotof potential but it fell short in a lot of ways. Its a sad story but thete is a lot of additional drama not related to the main character that cheapened the whole thing.
Its not a long series, so give it a watch and decide for yourself.
