Great episode.
Koko's dad at the end was hillarious
It's amazing how they can switch the mood like that and still make it work. Also loved
inner Banri
during the next episode preview!

CorvoSol: If you're expecting murder mysteries you've got the wrong show. Hyouka is more about using critical thinking to resolve everyday affairs, and much more about the characters involved in these affairs.

This may not be for you! But that doesn't mean reaching an understanding of why others like it is hopeless.

At this point honestly I'm not expecting murder mysteries. What I'm expecting is some part of this show to be engaging, instead of the desperately dull festival of boring it's been so far. You don't have to be fighting giant robots to make an engaging story driven by its characters. But in the 9 episode I have seen so far none of the characters have done anything to make me care about them, demonstrate growth, or even really to entertain.

In a way, Hyouka so far has felt like the worst parts of Zeta Gundam stripped of the mechanical battles. It's just uninteresting characters talking about things that don't matter in the next episode. Thus far in the show nothing has mattered, and I think that's a serious weakness of what I've seen so far. Hotaro, Chitanda, Mayaka and Satoshi are exactly who they were when introduced, and no reason has been given to care about any of them, save it be Chitanda, who unfortunately is far and away the weakest of the lot. Chitanda only comes out ahead so far because of a plot about her uncle. If the entire show were like that, maybe it'd be great. That plot had to do with a character, and it showed some level of development of Hotaro because he actually bothered to care about what was going on, since it had to do with Chitanda.

But "Oh no I saw a ghost no wait it wasn't" "Help me I don't remember 3 hours ago" and "let's find a lost earring in a swimming pool!" have done nothing for the cast. Satoshi continues to be the same wiggly, yappy imp he was at square one. Mayaka continues to be a bitch whose sole redeeming trait is calling Hotaro out on his shit. Hotaro, for his part, is Droopy Dog with the slightest hints of human decency.

It's hard to give a fuck when the show itself does not.

Still cant believe theyre finally remaking it. Makes me feel old(er)
But it needed to be done after Fate Zero so thoroughly trounced the original show.

Lancer and Rider look pretty dumb. But I guess that's faithful. Caster and Berserker are probably going to have some really great action scenes. Archer looks suprisingly decent.

They look faithful to the original adaptation designs. I liked those designs mostly, though Ufotable's version of rider is just the best. The female Rider was kinda badass though the new Berserker was a lot more interesting. Older one was just a big ugly brute thing. Hearing Illya say "BAHSAHKAH KILL THEM!" was worth the money.

It is, but I'm not sure it's going to change Corvo's opinion if he hates it as opposed to being indifferent.

Corvo still has the option of bailing out and watching something he'll enjoy, but he'll persevere, because he's Corvo.

If I had bailed on E7 while hating it, I'd have seriously missed out. I DID bail out on Rah Xephon and people still get their panties in a twist when I voice complaints about it.

Also I am watching stuff I like. For instance:

Persona 4: The Animated Series 4

This whole episode was super SDBurton. Chie giving that heroic speech to Yukiko. It's like the writers wanted me to ship 'em. I suppose it is only just to stick the 2nd and 3rd best girls together.

From what I can tell the cast for Escha & Logy is the same as the game's.

Staff:

Director: Yoshiaki Iwasaki

Screenplay: Tatsuhiko Urahata, Tatsuya Takahashi, Yoriko Tomita
Character Design, Animation Director: Keiya Nakano
Monster Design: Etsunobu Iwanaga
Art Director: Chikako Shibata
Color scheme: Matsuoka Tamae (might be a typo?)

Sound Director: Jin Aketagawa
Animation Production: Studio Gokumi

Is this the first Atelier based anime show? I really think it is. LOVE the art style. Really hope they get it right. Tony Taka's art got all derped to hell in anime form so hopefully this style gets treated well.

Aura: Maryūinkōga Saigo no Tatakai

From the studio that brought you Humanity Has Declined comes yet another adaptation of another work from the same author, Romeo Tanaka. It covers a pretty similar ground to Chuu2 but with a far more morbid and realist take on the matter, dealing with issues ranging from petty bullying and social ostracism to blackmail, severe physical beatings,
broken homes, domestic violence and attempted suicide.
It really doesn't pull any punches and ultimately ends up sending a far stronger and worthwhile message than Chuu2 ever did. Even the "romance" angle is far better handled as
the two main characters kiss and show genuine affection for one another
by the end of the movie.

I still need to watch the Blue Exorcist movie and Shinkai's foot porn thing before times up but I doubt either will be able to take this movies position on my 2013 AOTY vote. Watch it.

Ill check this out, thanks.

'tis that time of the month when drop (formerly suemura) starts dropping scans of various waifus from Megami and Nyantype. So far only three, but I'll post the Mizushima related ones:

I can probably give a heads up, when new ones show up, if there's interest and of course, I don't forget.

GuP forever.
And by forever I mean new season when?

Oh thank goodness, one of goddess Saori.

I am not worthy.

I saw a KuroUsagi in there too. a good batch, this one.

I never watched the GuP OVAs. Maybe when my life is no longer being ruled by Zelda ALBW I will.

That game did rule my life for a few days. Its realllllly short though. Wish it was a bit longer because it was so enjoyable.

Actually i've seen only ep 1 of najica but i'm pretty sure, maken-ki has it beat .i don't like najica so i won't go back to count.
I don't have stats since at the time of viewing (najica ) my counter wasn't implemented.

*Nods

Yep she is her own entity , and that's what make her an actually superior.

Not an atelier anime if i'm not watching them during hours in front of a cauldron making explosive barrels !

Barrel!

I highly doubt it can beat Najica or Agent Aika at their peak panty prominence. That was something to behold.

Just remember that Hyouka's triumphs tend to be small ones and you're not going to get an episode 26 out of the rest of the show. There's always going to be a measure of reserve when it comes to how the characters grow and interact, and those moments where this reserve breaks down are intense for some, but not all.

Dunno I just don't think you'll like the show, 2nd half included.

I figure I will stick with it until the school festival, which is what, episode 15? If that arc's conclusion doesn't change my opinion, then I'll reconsider whether or not I'm going to stick with it.

If that means they worked more on the actual episodes, I'm cool with it. Really, the song and the little fight at the end is all I need.

True, if more time goes to animating fights, I'm down with it.

A little Mashiro cuteness added to your daily routine makes life go by remarkably easily.
Also be sure to add in copious amounts of Kinmoza, NNB, and Hidamari sketch and youll be just fine!

Kinmoza is also in my backlog. NNB and Hidamari is already in my veins.

When the hell is Hidamari Sketch x Honeycomb getting released in the US though? I need it!

The plot goes something like this:

- Meaningless characters steal Kon's screentime for extended periods
- The world drowns in despair
- Kon makes a brief appearance
- The world rejoices
- Repeat ad infinitum

It has its enjoyable points, but it's definitely not something I'd recommend to people.

Not me.

See it's funny because the female teacher doesn't have a boyfriend and is touchy about this fact. This is a character archetype that has never been seen in any other anime ever.

I can think of a few counterexamples to Tenet 1, most notably Kashimashi (manga version, as well as anime version if you count the about-face OVA ending), and also the oft-quoted Kokoro Connect.
also OreImo, where the best girl won even though she wasn't the correct choice for the MC
It's definitely true that best girls have a distinct tendency to lose, though.

Tenet 2 seems like a bit of a moot point, since there is never a true consensus. On those rare occasions when there is something resembling a consensus, I find it's more often on the mark than not, so this tenet seems fundamentally flawed.

Tenet 3...I can't think of any counterexamples to. And it's true that green isn't the nicest of hair colours. Then again, I can't really think of all that many green-haired girls in general, so I'm hesitant to accept this one as an actual law. I'm sure there's an amazing green-haired girl out there somewhere. Right? Right??

You have my sword/axe/whatever weaponlike implement I happen to have to hand.

You summed up Tokyo Ravens pretty well which is why I just scan the episodes for Kon and then stop watching it. Its kinda boring.

What is the name of the anime with the girl who befriends those same faced gnomes after the end of the world or some shenanigans like that?

Humanity Has Declined. Very good series. Fun and original. Very unique show.
A tad bit bizarre at times but Y shows up and shes a goddess.

Engaged the Unidentified 04

Both families have a motif of "red" and "white" going on with their kids' names, I've noticed. In regards to what exactly Mashiro and Hakuya are, going by the OP/ED, I'm thinking either aliens or tengu, since they live in the mountains. Or maybe they're just really good at martial arts, that's the sort of thing that should be accounted for. Seeing Kobeni be able to read Hakuya's expressions when they never change is hilarious. Otherwise, Mashiro is challenging Non Non Biyori's Renge in sheer cuteness, and Benio is a force of nature. So, as enjoyable as always.

Mashiro being an alien is believable. Renge might be one too. Hopefully.

So many English names being thrown around. Good thing there's a fire guy on their team when their first major opponent has ice. The show still doesn't feel completely cohesive, but I'd say it's giving me similar vibes to Night Wizard.

Well, hope you like it! It's Mayaka's arc more than anyone else's, and you seem to like (a single aspect of) her, so who knows.

The show was plenty divisive at the same point where you're at. Lots of people loved the first half, others found it too boring just like you so I wouldn't sweat it too much. The Festival Arc might not change your opinion of the show overall but it is definitely the most engaging part of the show for many people.

I'm interested, but I'd rather play the game first and at the rate I'm getting through the Atelier titles (1 every 2 years) I won't finish Escha & Logy until 2019.

In waifu related news, Kurumi's glorious return has been confirmed for the new Date A Live PS3 game.

Kurumi should be in all Date a Live related things. Always. You know what else? She should have more figures because just having one from Griffon is an insult to her beauty.

Still has two more volumes to go, but through 5 out of 7 it's sitting at about 235. From something's data page:
Code:
1	7	267	2013/09/18	Summer	Stella Jogakuin Koutouka C3-bu
2	7	228	2013/10/16	Summer	Stella Jogakuin Koutouka C3-bu

Holy mother of failed dreams. Its incredible how low some shows sell. I mean a few thousand isnt very successful anyway, but a couple hundred is so unfathomably small for a fanbase.

you know if yokoi wasnt such a square, she and seki could be good friends

Seki is a free spirit. yokoi needs to quit trying to pay attention in class and just let her imagination run free.

Being entirely fair to the show, if there are more arcs like the one about Chitanda's uncle I'll be okay. It's these arcs that aren't like that that feel like filler and bore me. I assume that at some point the show will move on to focusing on its characters, so when we get there, it'll be all cool.

Well there's no show that's like that. There is a vocal group who didn't like it. (and then there's sane people). Now I'd kind of like to see just what percentage of voters last year voted for it given how strongly it won.

...I mean, I guess that conclusion makes sense, but
damn if it doesn't feel like a bait-and-switch.

As an aside, from the previews I thought the whole thing was going to be a long con on Deko's part, but it seems like she might really have believed it until she went overboard in the auditorium at the end and caused the violent reaction from Nibutani.

Oh yeah, for all Kon fans, the next Kon-narrated Tokyo Ravens information video is up, this time with what seems to be her profiling all the main characters that have shown up so far:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=N1u7v2pfsBw

Thanks for this. Its perfect if you wanna keep up with whats going on sorts but really just want to see Kon. they realized that and made these. Very forward thinking staff.

Excuse me while I glare at you viciously.

Agreed. C3Bu was good if youre a bit of a gun enthusiast and the characters design is really adorable. I had fun with it. It wasnt as good as Upotte though which may be the problem with it.

So what's your favorite anime so far this season guys? For me it has to be Noragami. Everything has been flawless and has been pointing to Yato being a new Gintoki. Plus the OST so far has me in love.

Sakura Trick or World Conquest. Mashiro puts Mikakunin in the running but the other shows are more interesting subjects.

Magi anime sales are a hilarious history of declining numbers.

9	10	4,703	2013/08/21	Fall	Magi
10	10	3,895	2013/09/25	Fall	Magi
Even with an event ticket the v1w1 for season 2 failed to sell more than the ninth volume of season 1. That's impressive.

Does this happen a lot to shows? I dont remember seeing other shows decline this sharply before. Usually the same group of fans keep buying the volumes rather consistently.

Sakura Trick 4

My, my, Haruka, aren't you popular! A golden-haired girl on each arm...wait, I'm getting flashbacks to KinMoza...

This episode also made me finally learn the two least interesting girls' names. Thank you, Mitsuki-kaichou, for getting Yuzu's name wrong all those times so that I could get it right. Your sacrifice will not be in vain(?) ...It also helps that the show keeps using their namesakes as symbols.

Haruka and Yuu are still the stars of this show, though. So much delicious kissing. This show is a miracle.

Sakura Trick is definitely miraculous. Its so so beautiful. Yuu and Haruka are super cuties with the hair ribbons and little flower hairclips and such. Goddamn what a great show. Darkside is 100% right.

Which is good because I also haven't watched TV in about three years.

I watch a bit of TV. Mostly its Pawn Stars, River monsters/MonsteR fish, tornado chaser shows, Storage Wars, Food network stuff, Modern Marvels, and NFL football lol.

So many fights on AnimeGAF its hard to remember them all :)

I'll admit despite me being around and voting for Hyouka as my #1, my memory is just of a really vocal minority who hated it.

Hyouka started mildly , went hit or miss for a couple of episodes , then was quite steady and finished very strong
It's a good show, not a revolution but it's a good show.

I mean within the past few months, but yeah, as somebody who only got into the show recently that vocal minority left the greatest impression on me. I'm perfectly fine with it being seen as a show with a divided reception, though.
