Zestiria - 18

So there are conditions to being a Squire uh. It makes sense, there had to be some kind of tradeoff for getting power and being able to see what others can't. The ritual was pretty short this time around, but the purification was pretty neat. It seems that beginning next week, our party is going to be getting down and dirty once more. I'm also interested in seeing Rose's dynamic with the Seraphim, now that she can hear and see them properly.

Blu-Ray.com forum posts say the NA Ghost in the Shell SAC Blu-Ray release uses dubtitles. SHIT.

I'm on the fence about buying this now.

KonoSuba - 05

This totally seemed like a last episode by the way it was presented.
This episode confirms that Darkness is my favourite source of comedy in this show. The other characters are decent as well, but Darkness just kills me.

That's because it's actually the end of the third Light Novel. They seem pretty good about squeezing a volume into 5 episodes. And yeah, Darkness is my fav too. My wife is collecting the Nendoroids but I've insisted that I buy Darkness.

CR streaming Ao Oni the Movie for premium members (next week for free members). It's a movie that opened yesterday in Japan. Is this the quickest for this to happened?

Crunchyroll has done this before with some smaller movies, such as Garakowa. It's a good move on their part to stay with Japanese industry trends.

That's an even bigger red flag. lol

Money grab by Anchor Bay to cash in on the upcoming GitS movie. I've been asking for a US Blu-Ray release of SAC for years now. You'd think they would invest a little effort into it and slap the English subtitles on it, as this could be a relatively big seller for the. But no...

That new SAO movie is playing near me on March 9th. Tempted to go see it.

Am thinking about it too as it's actually playing near me. Actually seeing anime in local cinemas that's not ghibli is kind of novel for me. Hopefully it happens with Silent Voice too.

There's apparently Korean versions with proper English subs that aren't too much more than what these cost. You should keep an eye out for those.

TOONAMI is also cashing in on the movie promotion and running GITS for the first time in HD in their usual rerun slot. So for the first time in a long time TOONAMI is running all first run content for four (soon to be four and a half) hours.

KING OF THE BRAVES GAOGAIGAR #46 The Brave.

How will Gaogaigar get bigger than this episode, they already had the whole OP play and they even had him use the Goldion Hammer to blast through the massive planet sized ship, not to mention using every single available hyper move back to back, then Kaido and Mamoru's abilities through what was it 9+ iterations?! I havent felt this pumped up and hyped over an episode in a very long time, certainly not to this massive Jupiter sized scale.

One of the best episodes in an mecha anime ever.

I've seen that already. It's 2x the price what I paid for the US set on eBay (so ~$160) for both sets. I'd rather just put up with the dubtitles for half the price. The dub itself is pretty good anyways.

According to the Blu-Ray.com poster there are other problems with the set, like lack of chapter stops and the dub switches over to the Japanese track at times. lol.

That's pretty sad for a potentially big release.

Listing on a korean retailer has them for $114 together + whatever shipping might be.

In the dub he has this extra deep voice that just oozes porn star, it's a weird choice that fits.

They haven't crossed the creepy line yet, which is nice, but I really wish they started working on a sensei x sensei ship.

Blue Exorcist S2 ep.6
That was excellent from start to finish and really helped fill in the story gaps. Good action and story movement is just what this series needed after a slow start.

Ushio and Tora up to 33

Man I was just thinking about that while watching this, but it was a major crime that both Yuto from Twin star exorcist and Hakumen no Mono were not nominated for this year Villain of the year...I mean god DAMN they are both the absolute peak of things I both love and love to hate about villains.

Gundam IBO - 43

First few minutes this week were incredibly uncomfortable to sit through. I get what it was going for, but good lord.

As for the second half, now I am confused. I don't know who is in the right or wrong anymore.

Have you really been watching 43 episodes of this framing it in respect to "right" and "wrong"? Lol.

Yeah, even for Gundam, a franchise that tends to portray both sides as varying levels of grey, IBO is particulary a grey v grey conflict. No side is completely right and no side is completely wrong either. At best a small few individuals are genuinely good people, and a few are straight up bad, but even then most of the IBO characters are kind of murky and hazy

Manga Entertainment still delivering!

That's a pity though, the BDs of GitS 1995 and Redline I own by them are pretty good, though GitS doesn't have a great subtitle track from what I remember.

I think the problem IBO has is that it's a grey vs grey worldview littered with skirmishes of grey vs pitch black. This distorts the message a little bit because it gives Tekkadan hero moments they don't deserve. Like in season 1, the pirates were definitely BAD people. They looked like cartoon villains, acted like cartoon villains, and their demise is a net positive for everyone in the world. They did it again in season 2 with the silly mercenary near the start, and again later on with Iok and Jasley. These are unnecessary extremes to just give the "heroes" easy moral victories even though they're bad people.

Tekkaden are also victims of circumstance while Gjallerhorn are the corrupt one percenter police of the earth sphere, so you're going to root for them.

At this point the only circumstance Tekkadan are a victim of is the circumstance of Orga making terrible leadership decisions.

I can kind of agree, although I'd argue Iok is less evil and more just a complete moron and a loose cannon. I'd argue some members of Tekkadan are genuinely good people though, even if Mika and Orga are incredibly hazy

Sounds about right and I haven't even dipped into season two yet.

I'm just saying, it's fairly natural to root for the emancipated child soldier brigade versus the corrupt powers that be.

Okay, Iok is clearly a 'joke character" so grouping him with actual totally evil villains isn't right, but he's still a result of the bad habit the writing team has of making extremes. He's the guy they need everyone to hate at the moment, so he makes all the dumbest mistakes that have terrible consequences. It's lazy.

Are there people in Tekkadan who aren't psychopaths or knowingly making bad decisions? Sure. But a lot of it is also wilful ignorance. People like Eugene aren't "evil" but they knowingly detach themselves from thinking too much about things because they don't feel they understand context. So they leave it to their leaders to decide for them. Guilt by association imo. Merribit is a good person. She also has absolutely no voice in the system and is silenced because her ideology doesn't fit the goals of Tekkadan. She hangs around to do what she can, but cannot influence anything. Same with Atra.

Mika is a total psychopath, which is really refreshing for a Gundam protagonist. Even Heero was more of a "acts crazy but deep down is a broken guy who wants to love but is too tsundere" guy. He's crazy, but clearly has emotions he suppresses and just pretends to be this badass. "I'll kill you!" and all that. Tough talk but at the end of the day he's a huggable softy. Mika though? He's a killer who has no emotions and doesn't even understand why people want to form relationships with him. He accepts acts of kindness as transactions and his justification for doing anything is so he can continue breathing and doing things. What he likes most is killing and he considers efficient murder to be beautiful. It's amazing.

Akko may suck at metamorphosis magic, but at least she's changing something, which I call progress for her. These formalities always are a pain for everyone, but at least the girls had some entertainment. Hey Ursula, if you're worried about Akko, why not give her some private tutoring? Which to be fair she was going to do, but only after Akko had bailed out. Diana is pretty good at keeping her cool around those who disrespect her life's work. If there's a dangerous creature in the back, put up an English sign that everyone can read please. Or maybe everyone is expected to know Latin and Akko is just being an idiot. This series is doing an excellent job of making me wish Diana or Ursula was the protagonist. Akko keeps on causing trouble for everyone, and all that she's learned is that she sucks. I'm not calling it progress until she substantially improves something without relying on legendary artifacts.

This was pretty good. I wish Akko would stop being useless (Seriously, how did she even get into the academy?), and Dianna so perfect, but there was some progress here. We got a breif glimpse into Diana's life. More importantly, I think Akko learned a strong lesson, and I really liked the scene at the fountain.

"Is magic obsolete" seems to be a major theme of the show, which could be interesting. So far though its only really served to make the headmasters of the academy look useless.

Hopefully with this lesson learned, Akko can move forward. For the show's sake, I hope it happens quickly. She doesn't need to reach Diana's heights in an episode, but she needs to stop being so utterly useless.
