One Punch Man - FINISHED

That was amazing, though it seemed to taper off a bit towards the end. The true brilliance of the show was Genos and Saitama, and how they played off of each other. I loved their relationship, and hope we get to see much more of it in the future. What I didn't enjoy towards the end of the first season was the introduction of all these new heroes. None were particularly interesting to me, or at least not interesting enough to take screentime away from my main man Genos and Saitama. I was also a little bummed the first season ends with almost everyone thinking Saitama is a scrub. I'm drooling at the mouth waiting for the moment that must surely come, when Saitama shows off his prowess in front of other S-Class heroes.
Gonna be straight up honest with you, I think the concept or basic idea behind One Punch Man is complete trash. Garbage. I'd even go so far as to say shit. But here's the thing... what I imagined the story and characters to be didn't play out like I imagined based on the concept of a guy who kills his foes with one puch. In fact... it's one of my favorite anime as of recent because of how they presented and created those characters... how they told the story was fantastic. I guess what I'm saying is... because One Punch Man sounds like Superman on steroids in concept, (I don't like Superman) it plays out so differently than one would expect. I love it!!! You can see and feel how human and imperfect the main protagonist is... how he traded his super human strength for the basic emotions of regular people. How he effectively lost some very key hunan qualities... how broken he truly is despite being the world's saviour. It kinda weird... but I thoroughly enjoy this anime. Watched it so many times... I can only hope for more seasons.

Now go watch Mob Psycho 100, the better ONE series.

Yu-Gi-Oh! 5D's Season 1 (Subtitled) Episode 64 – To Our Future!

Finally finished this arc after like one year, but now that Im basically doing an episode a day I should finish the anime this year. Great arc, though it did get weak at times, however once it became more focused on characters and their partners (ideally Team Satisfaction, and treasonshipping), along with retributionshipping (Jack and Carly), thinks did get better.
C4l9vSlWMAQE_bP.jpg:small

Final battle was a great way to tie up the last bonds between Team Satisfaction, going the whole distance on their background while even providing how it keeps them strong to this day. I wish more was there for it, though it seems theres many more episodes.

Stardust Dragon = best dragon.

Ill miss last train from knotlamp, and since the group has disbanded

Scum's Wish 3

These people are all utterly broken. And all these characters are so on edge. Wouldn't be surprised if by the end someone doesn't go all School Days on all these characters.

And I think I just stared into True Evil's eyes for the first time at the end of this episode. Damn.

Thanks for the recommendation in Scum's Wish guys. I'm fully prepared for some weirdness.

Let me say this, the anime gaf threads have helped me find a ton of great anime over the years. It feels good to finally start posting. Thanks to all you guys.

the second season is already confirmed for this year

March Comes Like A Lion

Fuck me is this show good. This may be my AOTY over Rakugo. I am just getting around to watching it and I am kicking myself for putting it off. It is so good.

That and RAkugo are 1-2 and stand above all others from the past year but damn.... I didn't think a show could pass it for me this year.

Flip Flappers 11

At this point I'm forcing myself and I shouldn't.

élDLIVE 6

The dynamic between Chuta and the girls from team 5 is excellent! So many good funny moments!

But damn....that ending :O I mean holy snap when did my colorful Akira Amano series adaptation gets so bloody and gory? The contrast was shocking to say the least.

, but did thy really just spoil the end plot of Berseria for me? Either way, I really like this show..

Scum's Wish 4

She's...

...pure evil. And evil's apprentice is just realizing how alike she is with evil. And she's okay with that?

These fucking people man. Why do I keep watching? This is like Re:Zero suffer porn, with the porn. And with the suffering turned up a few times for maximum emotional impact.

Holy shit...

The writing for this show is not bad, just...lazy.

There is quite a bit of potential not being tapped.

I haven't started this up yet but it's a shame I keep hearing this. I'll probably watch this with my daughter once it hits Netflix. I'm sure she'll at least enjoy it.

I just recently watched Evangelion and Steins;Gate for the first time. Really like both of them, though I'm still waiting until I watch End of Evangelion. I tend to hate nonsense technobabble but none of it in Steins;Gate really bothered me and, as a physicist, it's really cool to see CERN and the LHC be in an anime. I do feel really conflicted about Ruka. There are inarguably offensive scenes regarding them, but I suppose, all the characters seem to completely accept Ruka, and I thought the show did a decent job in conveying the emotional strain Ruka feels due to her (perhaps?) dysphoria and not being accepted. However, I've read some opinions from people saying Ruka is one of the worst depictions of LGBT in anime.

Anyways, now I'm having trouble figuring out what to watch next. I'd like it to be sci-fi. What comes to mind are: Serial Experiments Lain, Space Battleship Yamato (not sure if I should watch OG or remake), Akira, maybe Code Geass. There so many I've missed out on, and I feel a bit paralyzed by choice.

I'd go with 2199 since there's also an accompanying movie and a sequel OVA series beginning soon. OG Yamato is still worth a watch later on.

Psycho-Pass season 1.

But from those I would go with Serial Experiments Lain. I love that show.

It sounds like Scum's Wish belongs on The List.

We gotta see how it crashes before putting it on The List.

Code Geass would be my pick. Especially since we are now getting a third season.

Akira definitly! It's amazing!

Scum's Wish 5

I don't actually believe that any of these characters actually care about each other. They like the idea of one another. I think the only earnest person in this show is the Onii-Sensei. And he doesn't understand the shitpile he just stepped into this episode.

These people are just so depraved.

I know what's going on but seriously...

raw

The List does not discriminate. There are some great shows on The List too. The List is all about impact.

Thanks, good to know that 2199 is still a good way to experience it.

I've actually watched and loved Psycho Pass. Having a list of my favorite anime (Psycho Pass, Madoka, Fate/Zero) mostly be Gen Urobuchi stuff made me realize I should branch out and diversify.

Code Geass would be my pick. Especially since we are now getting a third season.
That's pretty great. Does this mean there'll be a good chance of legally buying S1 and S2 soon?
We didn't make this any easier lol
All feedback is appreciated. I figure most/all of them are worth watching. I am just a bit skeptical of the lists I find when I google "best sci-fi anime" or whatever.

Having seen a lot of anime that presents LGBT characters in incredibly offensive ways, Ruka is far from the worst. I don't actually think it's Ruka themselves that bothers people, but rather how they're treated by the main cast. You say everyone accepts them, but do they? The whole "But he's a boy" shtick is so played up in that whole series, it doesn't feel like anyone really respects Ruka's struggle over their gender identity. Not to mention how Okabe tries to "prove that Ruka's a boy" after sending the D-Mail; like, why the hell would you do that to anyone? The only time I actually got a sense of Okabe respecting Ruka's gender identity wasn't even in the anime, but in the game:
choosing to get Ruka's ending has Okabe unable to send the D-Mail, because he can't bear to take away Ruka's happiness after taking Feyris' previously.
In short, Ruka needs to get some less shitty friends.

I personally love Ruka as a character; I connect with them, I even cosplayed as them! Though I do have to recognize that at the end of the day, Ruka's just the token otokonoko from a visual novel aimed at otaku. They deserve better.

Truth, this is why something as good as School Days is on there.

lol good ol school days

Urobuchi is awesome. Just don't be fooled by the abomination that was Aldnoah.Zero, even though he only wrote scripts for the first 3 episodes.

But yeah that list you have is fucking solid. I would just choose one and roll with it

He also wrote the outline that the rest of the show more or less followed, but it is reasonable to assume the man himself would have implemented it more effectively.

You're absolutely right that the show has some really shitty interactions with Ruka and accept is probably the wrong word. Okabe/ the writers do not seem understand the concept of wanting to identify as a different gender, and the clearest interpretation from the show is that Ruka never asks them to change pronouns because she feels it's socially unacceptable to ask them to. What I was referring to is that at least none of the characters are bothered by the way Ruka dresses and presents herself (outside of the cliched 'wait that's a boy' crap) and Miyuki even encourages it by designing outfits for Ruka. Overall, I thought the group never viewed Ruka's choices in a negative, but just initially surprised. Though, really thinking about it, Ruka doesn't really play a large enough role in the story to be able to say that the negative interactions are "out-weighed" by positive/neutral ones.

What did you think of
Ruka being born a different gender?
Is it really appropriate or an interesting application time travel?

Ok, this question has been burning in the back of my mind for quite a while now.

...Why does Shirou Emiya dress like a Gopnik in UBW 2014? Or if not a Gopnik, like a Yakuza. Something something semantics cheeki breeki.

the Fate series is quite love and hate with me.

I hate anything Fate Stay Night.

I adore Fate/Zero. I am super hyped for Apocrypha and loved the manga/LN so far]

Fate/Kaleid..... why........

I know there is more but that is all I have really paid attention to

I definitely can understand the positives that you've found, but to me the negatives really weigh it down. It's quite upsetting. Though as I said, there's far worse in terms of the treatment of LGBT characters in Japanese media.

As for your question,
it's a very interesting one! I'm not sure if the idea itself really pans out though; would I still be ME if I was born a different sex? Even putting aside obvious genetic differences, I would inevitably have different experiences. Are you still yourself after so much changes? Steins;Gate assumes the answer is yes, so I'll have to jump off from there.

Ruka chose to do it, and if it makes them more comfortable with their body, then I think that's fine. It would erase any struggles they had as a result of their dysphoria, which could be drastic enough to make them a different person, but if they understood and chose that, then I see no problem. Personally I feel that if this application of time travel were real, it would fundamentally change who that person is, so I don't know if I would take the same deal.
