What's this Shingetsutan Tsukihime? Last I checked they never made a Tsukihime anime. Is this some unrelated crap that happens to have the same name?

I don't see an anime recommendation thread so I'll just ask here.

I was wondering if you people could recommend me an anime series?

I want something a bit adventurous but well written and not too childish.

Baccano!

But seriously, your description doesn't give much idea of what you actually like.

What shows have you enjoyed in the past?

One Piece (though I stopped watching because as I aged so did the writing, the "serious" scenes are painful)

Dragonball/Z

Baccano!

Blue Gender

Neon Genesis Evangelion

Black Lagoon

Cowboy Bebop

Keep in mind though I haven't watched these shows in quite some time. Since then my standards have risen in terms of quality. I don't mean to sound snobby it isn't like I won't tolerate anything that isn't Oscar quality, far from it. But I won't tolerate something that is written with as much emotional draw as a bad Saturday morning cartoon.

Birdy The Mighty is also pretty good.

Future Boy Conan is directed by Oscar award winner Hayao Miyazaki, so you're in luck anyways!

Fate/ZERO then.

I don't doubt your ability to reach OT6 (as I strongly believe in miracles), however math shows me that we needed 13 days to reach the halfmark and as I will return in 7 or so days I will have plenty of time to make 29 more posts and finally trigger the third impact. (edit: or would this be the first?)

I will generally recommend Fate/Zero to anyone looking to catch up on recent anime, even though I didn't care for it. Why would I recommend a show I didn't like?? Well it had a lot of good things going for it, the presentation, tone, and several arcs were very enjoyable! Overall it was a very good show, but it wasn't my bag, so I'll still recommend it. I can be impartial like that. This is a weird post.

Nevermind getting hit by a shell, they roll a tank over in episode 9.

I asked this weeks ago. I thought, by the silence to my question, people just didn't care about the show but it seems that people just didn't know. I can't believe there's nothing in the shows fiction to justify or even poke fun at the absurdity of the whole thing.

The closest the idea of death even entered into the equation this whole series was threat of drowning when a tank fell into the sea. I'll be the first to admit that I've seen some crazy things in anime that stray far outside reality but I've seen things that stray outside of reason to the point it was foolish but they were all acceptable because the writers of the series had some skill on how to express their vision with sound, images and words.

This show has failed to express any of its conceits with anything. Gigantic aircraft carriers (with no planes) so large they have mountain ranges. What seems like a military history (which the war otaku reference every given moment) with uniforms in certain disposable characters yet no military present. Little girls firing artillery shells, tank shells, machine guns at each other with accuracy enough to hit tanks with precision yet seem to never hit each other despite leaving the covering of the vehicle. Not even to mention that most of the damage the tanks take to immobilize them are not survivable by human beings. Crazy failure-as-a-mother woman with steel-like resolve goes to disown her daughter and... plot point lost.

Yeah... Sure I enjoy the show but seriously... FUCK THIS SHOW!

The very way it's presented is indicative of the writer's knowledge of the absurdity of the entire thing.

It's a sports anime. It just so happens that the sport is a tank otaku's dream.

One of my friend really enjoyed Fate/Zero, but then my friend cousin introduced him to Fate/Stay Night. He stopped watching Fate/Zero altogether, and never want to get near the Fate franchise ever again.

So warning to everyone that plan to watch Fate/Zero, stay away from Stay Night. The visual novel is okay, nothing amazing like steins;gate, but at least the plot make sense (except the sex part).

You're doing this for all the wrong reasons then.

Wait, does the Steins;Gate VN have sex in it?? There isn't enough Kurisu porn to satisfy me.

Sometimes it's probably best not to try and explain things, as it will sometimes only complicate it even more, like Upotte!! did with the whole guns don't kill people thing.
Let's not get into the dangers and moral quandaries of using animals for institutionalised cock fighting in Pokémon.

Nadia: The Secret of Blue Water 10
all dat thermal expansion

That was pretty great! Anno has a penchant for making situations where relatively little is happening feel incredibly tense and dangerous.
Jean, Hanson, and Sanson broing it up while saving the Nautilus was so fucking cool. In a way this is the coming of age moment for Jean, and it ties back to the earlier commentary on how Jean and Nadia are maturing without either of them accepting such growth. All I want now is for Nadia to stop being a big bitch to him.

That doesn't explain anything! That just makes it worse!

It's not any more ridiculous than using tops powered by mythical beasts in competition.

It totally is! Most anime exist within their own logic so even if things diverge from reality or conventional logic, they still make sense within their own world. Medaka Box 2's final episode is easily more of a departure from reality than this show yet manages to make more sense. That's not the success of Medaka as much as it a failure of this show.

Sometimes it's probably best not to try and explain things, as it will sometimes only complicate it even more, like Upotte!! did with the whole guns don't kill people thing.

The guns had huge boobs... enough for me. I don't see huge boobs on these tanks! Okay, seriously

speaking, there's just so many things being presented with no real explanation that it became really hard to suspend my disbelief by the end. I felt like I wasn't even being asked to suspend anything... It felt like straight-up trolling to be honest :(

Dude, think of it like it's baseball or something

They're clearly not treating it with the drama appropriate as if it were a full blown war, why should you?

Yeah... I'm typically good at it. I wouldn't be so frustrated with the show if I didn't like it so damn much. Honestly, if they say it was just magic or something like that, I'd be willing to accept it. The silence on the narrative's part is driving me insane. Apparently I have a button this show has found and taken a hammer to.

I'm over it. I just have to be an adult about this and I'll be fine.
BUT I WANNA KNOW!!!

I thought things were about to get interesting, but they insist on filling this show with fucking nothing.

"Why am I watching this? Why should I care?"

Fuck it. Just wake me up when people start dying or something.

Adventurous huh, and you want good writing... I think these might be stuff to look into:

Lupin III: Castle of Cagliostro
Eureka 7(just the first show)
Planetes
Escaflowne
Takarajima
Full Metal Alchemist
Samurai Champloo
Dennou Coil
Fate/Zero
Dirty Pair
Space Brothers (currently airing)

Gintama might also be up your alley, but I haven't personally watched it. These seasonal threads are all encompassing btw, so recs and old show discussion are normal.

Psycho Pass 12

Flashback episode! It was obvious since the beginning via implications and stuff, but it's nice to see first hand just how shitty the Sibyl system is. Provoking latent criminals so they can actually shoot them is not cool.

Vividred Operation - 01

This was really lively, entertaining, and had a lot of forward momentum that the 24 minutes felt like they flew by. It's silly and fun stuff. The transformation scene was pretty awesome.

Kotoura-san - 01

One of the finest bait and switches that I have ever seen. Truly one for the ages. Let's see where this goes.

Sasami-san@Ganbaranai - 01

This felt really unnatural and all over the place. I suppose the random, off the wall nature specifically in this show will work for some, but it just gave me bad Jinrui wa Suitai Shimashita vibes which I didn't like either. Weird vignettes and action scenes don't amount to anything for me if I don't care or at least find the characters compelling to some degree.

AnimeGaf has failed you if no one has yet mentioned School Days.
