But that's cheating because those animators probably make decent money and don't have to sleep under their desk.
Oh, what? Psh. That's not animation. When I'm watching an animated work, I want to feel the disconnect the animator has with his family.

I think some animators agree with you, which is why they leave their comfortable European animation careers behind after making a series or a movie, and head to Japan to suffer for many, many years.

The Light of El Cantare
Futari wa Precure Max Heart 15:

Wait, what? Who slipped an actual good episode into this terrible show? It was like I was watching Futari wa again for a second--fun character interaction, unconventional episode structure, no infantile moralizing. For a season that largely cut out the wide cast of charming minor characters in order to shoehorn Shiny Luminous into every last moment of Nagisa and Honoka's time together, it was a surprising departure to see an episode that turned Honoka and Nagisa into the minor characters and shifted focus to two random underclassmen who idolize them, culminating in a street basketball game because, y'know, it's cool and stuff. It's going to be sad when I watch episode 16 and the show is right back to being shit again.

And for anyone still wondering what the fuck was up with that gif from the previous episode, I think I forgot to mention that terrible looping animations and ugly effects using still images aren't even uncommon in Max Heart. This week's fight was actually good, but it did have this:

Code Geass didn't have Dyson Spheres!

these look interesting. Are they found in other shows? I dont recall seeing it elsewhere.

It's more of a cute girls having cute and innocent love stories manga/anime. I'm only two volumes in though.
Might check the anime later.

This sounds very :cajun. putting it on my list.
I think I saw it on Rightstuf.

Seriously though this is one of the worst character designs I've ever seen. It's like it was deliberately designed badly. His head is a freaking square. I don't even need to go into the alien weirdness that Hirai's "noses" have evolved into.

I can honestly say that I can draw a better design than him. This is some of the worst character art I've seen in a long time. Not only is it a special type of bland, it's also bad at the same time.

I don't understand the half-assed cel-shaded look a lot of these space/mecha series go for where they add ugly simple unweighted lines and weird ugly phong-type shading to flatly colored CG models. It just looks bad and succeeds at looking like neither 2D nor good 3D animation. It's the worst of both worlds.

every time I see "phong" its kind of weird because that was my grandfather's name.

America and Japan have abandoned 2D animation, but it still lives on in the hearts of FRENCH PEOPLE.

This is seriously the best looking cartoon I've seen in quite a while.

this looks really good!!

I love you.

I really would love to see a Gundam-like series (or mech anyway) in the vein of the new Battlestar Galactica in the sense that there are real scientific concepts backing it such as no explosions in space or even sound.

No one would want to watch that though.

I for one hope it's (or any other future animu) not like the new BSG at all.

I watched 2 episodes of that. It wasn't very good. :(

The CGI is bad and the character designs are bad and there's nothing much to say for the direction either. I watched it because I thought the story was okay and it was interesting to see space battles plotted out in a more realistic manner.

Most of the francanime I know of is old and of varying quality, like the awesomely weird Fantastic Planet (available on blu-ray from Masters of Cinema today!) or the highly-regarded but kind of dull Le roi et l'oiseau which, like my beloved Utena movie, is best appreciated for its scintillating architecture pornography.

But aside from Panique au village, Triplets of Belleville, and The Illusionist, A Cat in Paris was a really pretty good and uniquely styled recent French animu movie which nevertheless received strangely little attention even after an Oscar nom. It's even on Netflix instant so no one has any excuses.

oh nice, I can feel like my netflix sub is going to use. Will hit up after turin horse.

Seraphis Cain

bad gameplay lol
I'm talking about Croisee.

Disregard then! I'm tired and I think I'm getting sick, so I clearly have no idea what I'm talking about.

And on that note:

Hidamari Sketch 2

I really feel like I should save this for when I'm more awake/not feeling like shit. So many sudden cuts...I can't keep track of what's going on!

Seriously, this is the most frantically paced show I've seen in a long time.

The Light of El Cantare
All of the Francime talk only served to make me remember Miraculous Ladybug. I think I'll cry myself to sleep tonight.

As someone who's not opposed to watching a decent shonen show, is Toriko any good? Seems like something I may kind of be interested in checking out.

You should watch more Shaft.
they love those quick cuts and weird pacing.

It's decent, never goes into absolute shit territory, but there's only one or two notable high points out of 95 episodes.
