I enjoyed this episode.

Disclaimer: I really enjoyed the game. It had a bunch of open plot threads as well, but it was still a really enjoyable read.

Could've been a whole lot worse (the Chaos;Head anime exists, unfortunately) but that could've been a whole lot better too. It was rushed, but it was always going to be (but considering they kept adding in scenes that didn't really have any value I'm not as sympathetic as I would've been). Like
Kai meeting Misaki in Ep18 and discussing... nothing at all. For a while. Time which would've been much better used showing one of the scenes they skipped, like Kimijima telling Airi about what happened to her mother when they run into Geji-nee for the last time, because that was easily the best scene for making the player hate him.

There were a few major moments where they really screwed up the atmosphere too. The final battle's arguably the biggest example, because that...didn't have any tension at all, and they managed to make the villains look even more incompetent than they otherwise would've looked thanks to replacing 'Nae and her trained team' with 'Nae and a few middle aged men with baseball bats'. Not sure why they decided to
just have Kai use Gunvarrel's super finisher on Sumeragi instead of actually at the end of the fight either, it being a finishing attack and all
. The feeling of isolation from the world that was supposed to be created by all the events in Odaiba was completely gone too.

It's not all bad (Aki's rousing speech at the airport was great and the way they showed
Misaki being taken over by Kimijima
was done well) but a fair few of the changes bordered on nonsensical, skipped scenes could easily have been inserted in place of new ones with no value, and while it was always going to be rushed that alone doesn't excuse a fair amount of its shortcomings. The anime did a solid job of letting you appreciate the characters, and the music improved a lot by the end (I'm really disappointed they didn't use the game's credits theme at the end of the last episode though, Steins;Gate managed), but the handling of the plot really left a lot to be desired at times.

Nanoha movie 2

quite a nice adapation of the 2nd season. Way better paced than the first movie even though once again Nanoha gets the shaft in terms of character development (in the movie series... she pretty much is just a nuke). The whole Hayate story is still pretty sad and while I still hate the bad guy's really cheesy final jrpg boss talk, the fights are really nice, in terms of abilities, production value, and the orgy of magic circles which I love. Doesn't hurt that I fucking love the mechanical nature of the weapons and the silly engrish/german. Even the insanely 2-3min long transformation sequences are nice (Even though they are a bit lewd)

Great movie for what it is. Really curious if they will movify striker S. The ending clearly makes it seem like striker s is at the very least canon. hmmmm....

And for fun, a direct comparison between final attacks of show vs movie.

So yeah, its worth watching for the eye candy alone, and the plot isn't too shabby.

Extollere

Sucks at poetry
Extol, Mio's torso can't possibly contort that way

Yeah it might look strange but it's far from impossible. I used to attend a lot of life drawing, and I've seen a ton of angles. Depending on the person's flexibility they can easily twist from side to side enough that you can see a bit of their ass and breasts at the same time. Naturally, I'd imagine that Mio is no less flexible than your average contortionist, since she is obviously the sluttiest girl in the entire K-on cast.

That's nearly a full-on front view of her chest with a full-on back view of her butt! I think her spine becomes her ribcage at some point

According to a presentation from Crunchyroll at TAF, over the last six months the number of paid subscribers has doubled, to a current total of over 200,000.
So they're raking in 1.5 mil a month. Assuming they're profitable and they get like a dozen shows each season, the shows must be cheap and the subs must be just as cheap!

So, it's really weird that all of a sudden shows are referring to chuu2 as a thing people have now. Or maybe it's because of the show that I've started to notice... it just seems to be a thing like "otaku" though. Or maybe it's the new "otaku".

Also, this show turned into Black Rock Shooter (the OVA) for a second:

So jelly.

Given the whole arc with the mother though, this random shift to Kagami and this new pseudo-rival character really seems a bit out of place. But hey, I guess it's easier to wrap up on a lighter note.

Trucking along, trucking along.

I think the puns are helping my vocab a little.
I was thinking the same thing about this show. They often talk slowly and make simple sentences so I can understand some bits without subtitles.

For reference, that has been a thing in Japan for awhile now. You just happen to know what it is and it happens to be mentioned in a show.

It's just a coincidence.

bad gameplay lol
Finished Joshiraku. What an absolutely wonderful show. Of course there were a lot of jokes and puns I couldn't hope to understand, but the translator's notes guide I was linked to in here (apologies to whoever linked me to it, because I can't remember who it was :lol) helped immensely. But besides that, I was fine for probably 80% of the material. And it really was just such a joy to watch. So many amazing references and jokes (I loved all the subtle jabs at stuff like K-On!, and the more outright jabs at stuff like American culture invading Japan, Ebizou, North Korea, and various Japanese politicians). And there were some references that I never expected to see in an anime, as well (which I won't spoil for anyone who might want to watch it).

So yeah, totally can't say enough good things about this show. It's definitely up there with my favorites. And it's kinda inspired me to pick out random anime I've never heard of more often, since that's how I discovered it.

Watch Joshiraku, because it's great!

This is probably the weakest of episode of the series, with a lot of :wonzo and off-model animation. There's also not much in the way of action until the end. Still, there are a number of nice scenes, particularly the one where Myung
leaves for Earth.
I enjoyed a number of the little character moments in this episode, such as Lucy's jealousy, Colonel Millard's subtle :firehawking, and Yang's moment of glory. Also I think it's funny how the villain is just some guy who's totally insane for some reason.

The storyboarding was still quite good, it's just obviously the lowest-budget episode of the series, and it's pretty slow-paced until the last ten minutes.

This OVA needs to come out on BD. I really hope they don't do something horrible like only release the movie a la Gunbuster.

The course I'm looking at offers a module on "Japanese Transnational Cinema: from Kurosawa to Asia Extreme and Studio Ghibli". I know nothing of media studies courses so I don't know if this is a particularly "standard" kind of thing - it seems like jolly good fun to watch a bunch of films and think about their international audiences, but not something I'd usually think of as particularly academic (yup, I'm a big snob).

Anyway, the particular statement it makes on the Ghibli part is as follows:

The internationalisation is clarified further:

Feel free to mock me for taking this seriously, but this seems like a severely limited view of Ghibli's output. While you might argue that the character art of Ghibli films, like virtually all anime, isn't specifically Japanese, I think you'd be hard-pressed to say that any of Takahata's output for the studio is "stateless", as so much of it deals specifically with Japanese experience or mythology (Grave of the Fireflies, Pon Poko, and the forthcoming Kaguya-hime spring to mind). I think you'd even be hard pushed to say that something like Spirited Away is "stateless", although its fantasy storytelling is perhaps more universal than something like Grave of the Fireflies. Perhaps I'm misunderstanding what mukokuseki is.
That sounds like the kind of theory that an academic can only get away with when there aren't that many people in a particular field with the expertise to call them out for their weak arguments. In terms of American academia Susan J. Napier is clearly well versed in the field of anime but sometimes she reaches conclusions that, to my mind, are not justified by the evidence provided or can only be justified by ignoring all the other evidence to the contrary.
It might not get discussed as much anymore, but I think a lot of people still care about it. Fruits Basket was massively popular within large sections of the anime fandom for quite awhile.

I believe it's the most popular manga of all time in America. Maybe.

I can't say anything about the cultural references, but the anime references were nothing more than reference porn. I remember a joke about how they couldn't go to London... which isn't exactly funny because there's no real punchline other than the fact that they're referencing something.

It's not just Joshiraku of course, but it's just a lot of this media-centric self-referential stuff just feels so empty and aimless at times.

(The best part are the trips outside the dressing room anyway!)

Well, since you haven't yet, I suppose I will (if that's alright with you).

Oh, right... but why not IMG tag them instead so everyone can see your beautiful Azusa, and my Mio?
Because I wanted you to do it. I'm not one who likes to toot his own horn.
OH MY GOD DAT AZUSA

I guess I did it right.
Dat Mio and Azusa <3
Thank you!
Your ink lines is too thick on Azusa. How do you guys manage those lines without looking like chicken scratches?
I like my girls lines thick.

Clearly.

Sometimes I feel that people confuses references with humour. There's nothing inherently worthwhile or funny about making a reference to something else, but a number of works seem to use them in place of actual constructing a joke.

New PV for Aiura, upcoming Spring season show about high school girls that do nothing.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ktgEc9iI-j4

I'm sure some of you will love it.

Am I really going to watch this for blonde girl? Gosh I used to have standards. What have you done to me, AnimeGAF?

I'll probably just drop it as I did with Tamako, so it's not all bad.

Aw shit! Who knew
the mask combined with the stone unleashed the ultimate power of a rave.
Oh hey Smokey did something. They probably would have just exposition dumped there anyway but at least it made sense because of him. Lisa Lisa is pretty kickass in the past. Kars is such a great asshole villain. I love the dynamic the Pillar Men brought to this, with Esidesi being cool and calculated, Wamuu being an honorable warrior and Kars being a deceitful asshole. It really differentiates them and their battles with Jojo.

[JoJo's Bizarre Adventure] - 24

I suppose this is an average episode for JoJo's Part 2, which is to say that I was entertained but wish that the production values were better. Sorry for sounding like a broken record, but that's just how this show is.

I'm pretty excited about next week but I don't know if I should just wait for the whole thing to be out. Watching the finale in little pieces probably isn't doing it any favours.

Long awaited 5th volume for Banner of the Stars has been finally released (http://www.gainax.co.jp/company/news/0418.html), of course by Mr. Morioka & Mr. Ono with the requited illustration cover by GAiNAXer Takami Akai (that, as habitual, lamented not being quickly up-to-the-task; http://gainax.weblogs.jp/ninelives/2013/03/星界イラスト全部完成.html).

There is no impact because the damage is already done. Anime Contents Expo continues to exist, and that's where all the publishers who aren't at TAF are going to be. Aniplex is still totally absent from TAF, which is the biggest deal. They're the anchor sponsor for ACE, so I doubt they'll be returning to TAF anytime soon. Especially not when they can make more money with the ticketing of stage events at ACE.
I see. At first I thought some attendees from previous years could be coming to both events, but yeah, as you say seems like the controversy and later scission were an opportunity some big companies didn't miss.

i agree 100% they missed kimijima kou scenes even if they did get some properly and they indeed lacked tension from the final battle part.( battle wasn't long enough , proportion from the robot felt off )

I also expected some references with nae to pop-in but they didn't and i regret that they didn't use some scenes from other routes to explain other stuff instead of sticking to aki route no matter what because alone that route lack context

Robotics;Notes - End

If it weren't for the last few eps I would have been convinced this was a slice of Life show about the everyday life of the robotics club, the show had so many times where I'd watch an episode look in this thread see the itshappening.gif and I'd be thinking "What's happening?".

And I ended up being really unsympathetic towards the two main characters at the end.

Psycho Pass - End

lulz, it's like the whole show is a prologue to something it had it's moments, but it also had too much exposition of how the sybil system is ass, as well as odd episodes that served no purpose like Yayoi's backstory episode.

Jojo - 24

Next week when!?
