Tamako Market 07

This episode was quite heavy on the bird abuse.

Though, still liking it. I really do like the market and everyone in it and new girl wasn't bad. Hopefully they'll continue all of this in the next episode.

Tamako Market Episode 7

Well, I can't say that I didn't expect that. Man did Dera get beat on this episode.
Poor Mochizo though. She's going to steal Tomako away from him

Pretty enjoyable episode, again... although I'm kinda getting frustrated at the
postponing of the plot-related stuff
, this time they
left the revelation hanging at the end instead of going straight into it
.
I liked how with just two short scenes at the start of the episode we get a quick grasp into Choi's character and her relationship with Dera. Seems like the most defined character of the bunch so far.

And call Tamako bland all you want, but she's a darling!
She went to the record store and got that relevant vinyl for the girl and all
. I'm really feeling what Yamada and Yoshida were saying about "Tamako loving everyone" lol.

Surprisingly, the staff listings were wrong and Hiroko Utsumi wasn't the director, but the storyboarder for this episode. Ishihara and Ishidate both were credited as enshutsu, I wonder what the hell was going on at the studio that made this happen. The storyboard was correct, not really superb like Utsumi's other outings (Hyouka 21 being the best), but it didn't drag, was funny and easily captured the various moods present in the episode and the little details about Choi's character.
Supposedly, Kazumi Ikeda and Ishidate did key animation, but I didn't notice any particular stand-out cuts. The consistency was very high for the episode though, and long stretches of scenes like the one where the shopping district was ganging up on Choi were quite lively. Some scenes of her berating Dera were pretty good too, I wonder if Ikeda did one of those. As for Ishidate, I really couldn't spot anything that looked like his style, maybe the 'underwater' part? he was at the bottom of the list so he probably did a very brief cut and nothing else, especially if he also was directing.

Encouragement of Climb 8

Holy shit, they're actually climbing a mountain! And what a beautiful one it is, they really do a great job with the backgrounds in this.

Having not watched either shows, I'll just have to take that person's word.
lmao

Over 16 minutes into an episode and no giant robots. Or anything. Also, boring violin stuff. Guh, this is such a dull show. A slow show with good production levels. There's still like, 16 episodes for this to all change, though.

The levels of stupid are becoming critical in this now though it's still entertaining. Also seems to have critical levels of :DTL and :SDBurton if I interpreted some of the lines correctly. MC really likes playing with fire. I like how everyone reacts to this like it's no big deal too.

Gundam AGE 30

Wow, Flit is so damaged. Everything he said to Kio was either about how the Veigans all deserve to die or how its his destiny to use the Gundam. I kinda hope this comes full circle and learn the Asunos were initially a Veigan sleeper cell or some shit.

So many kids. Algreus complying with Flit's request is some "Just as keikaku" shit going on but I assume that's to be part of a more flghty and lighthearted tone of this arc? Of course as I typed that, I saw folk getting incinerated. That's quite a juxtaposition. Hell, I'm shocked they didn't grab those 3 kids hanging around to be bridge operators.

Not sure how I feel about it given it seems like a regression from the previous arc but I'll give it a fair shake.

Screw the haters. Comparing Garden to Voices is hilariously mismatched; if you're really going to try and rag on it for no other reason than to make yourself chuckle, at least use a film that has a similar setting.

Mirai Nikki 07
Live like an elite die like an elite. Also the tomato scene was amazing.
I'd have torn the envelope there and then Yuuki is an idiot.

Mirai Nikki is probably one of the best shows from lat year, if not the very best. Well, it is for me at least.

This show is so fucked up and oppressing.

All these errors over a couple new games and some old tech demos. E3 is going to be terrible this year.

That conference was so terrible I was actually eager to watch an episode of the much maligned third arc of Gundam AGE to help myself forget it.

I only paid passing interest, and have been napping for the last half-hour or so. Why was it so bad?

Cardfight!! Vanguard 10 ~ 12: The tournament is progressing smoothly. Nothing really surprising and match strategies seem well established now. Get new cards already ^^

Rurouni Kenshin Live Action Movie

aka Kamen Rider Den-o talks funny and carries a sword

So I only got around to watching this last night.

I have very mixed feelings about this. On the one hand, this is a blatant nostalgia cash grab that tries to turn a well loved property into some cheap popcorn movie. On the other hand, its Rurouni f'in Kenshin so who cares. I've been waiting 10+ years for this movie.

I was complaining the whole movie about Saito holding his sword wrong so when he busted out the Gatotsu, I cried tears of joy

For what it is, I thought the movie was very well done. A common complaint with Japanese live action (which firehawk likes to mention over and over) is their reliance on natural light. RK does not do this. Their scenes, outdoors or indoors, are well lighted and the cinematography is top notch. The sets are great and while I'm not an expert on Meiji-era Japan, convey the time period quite nicely. It is clear Warner Bros. spent money on this movie.

Something that was somewhat touched upon in the anime/manga is handled pretty deftly here. What DOES happen to the old samurai who fought in the wars and have no place in the new society?

The story is a somewhat compressed version of the entire Tokyo arc, from Kenshin's introduction, the Oniwabanshuu to Udo Jinnei. I didn't mind the liberties they took with the story since, of course, they needed to fit stuff into the movie and have it make sense (for example, there is no Aoshi and Saito shows up very early) but what I took exception with is how they basically used the RK license to make another Azumi, 13 Assassins <insert jidai geki here with high body count>. The relationships between the characters are half baked and felt a bit rushed but nothing really to get too worked up about. Thinking back on it, the manga/anime didn't really handle the gang getting together any better. They all basically just show up into each others' lives and fall into a happy pattern.

The movie starts out from the end of the Boshu war. Kenshin singlehandedly (it seemed like it) leads the Choshu over the Shogunate forces by murdering everyone on the battlefield. It was kinda stupid because before that there was a text scroll talking about the assassin(!) Hitokiri Battousai but then they cut to him not really assassinating people. The action in the series was never excessively gratuitous or gory (not even in the OVA). Kenshin does not decimate entire armies by himself and I've always seen him as a super gifted swordsman but not Gundam Freedom. Oh well.

The fights are very well choreographed, I felt, and there were no wires and people didn't float. 1 on 1 fights felt like actual fighting and not dancing (as it is sadly in a lot of other movies) and they didn't really do very many special moves.

rurouni-kenshin-live-action-movie-poster.jpg

So dreamy

Now, I said I didn't mind the story but there is a part that I hated. I usually don't like it when movies clearly set up for a sequel but this movie has the OPPOSITE PROBLEM. My favorite RK story is Tsuiokuhen and this movie WASTES AN IMPORTANT PLOT POINT in Tsuiokuhen to half ass a sad backstory for Kenshin. They don't destroy the possibility of a Tsuiokuhen adaptation but they sure as fuck made it less impactful.

WHYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYY?????????

All in all, I still enjoyed the movie. There is no way for me to objectively rate this movie so I'm not gonna bother. Its a great movie because the source is great and I am a big big Kenshin fan. I'm pretty sure that someone who is not a fan will enjoy it as an action movie by itself but the experience is greatly enhanced if you're familiar with the source. If you're not, I don't know, don't talk to me we're not friends any more.

Mobile Suit Gundam 0083: Stardust Memory - The Mayfly of Space

Well that's some nice mecha porn and it helps humanize Cima a bit. Looks like the radio drama of the same name manages to do so quite a bit further at that. Both seem to provide the actual motivation for her actions that wasn't present in the OVA itself.

How are you not furious with hatred? By this time in the show I wanted bullets in all heads.

ALL HEADS.

Comical contrast of promoting social media services for the system as it learns about you while simultaneously hocking games decrying the big brother state governments are becoming (i.e. fuck the police), creepy onstage presentations where devs autofellated themselves about their awesome ideas without showing the goods, and announcement of announcements for other stuff.

Share button is hot though and should be standard on everything.

I really don't get the share everything trend that people have. I've tried FB, and I didn't get it. Didn't even bother with Twitter.

I mean people don't even have interesting things to share 99.99% of the time.

Oh, I thought it was just for screenshots/vids/etc. Fuck that noise if it spams social media feeds.

At last, the first trailer for Makoto Shinkai's new film, Kotonoha no Niwa (The Garden of Words):

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=udDIkl6z8X0

In theaters May 31.
The main characters are voiced by Miyu Irino and Kana Hanazawa!

HOOK IT INTO MY VEINS

Looks beautiful, as expected from Shinkai. Also weirdly fetishistic at times with the focus on feet.

Decent slapkuga, you can't see the point of impact well but the way the other characters react is effective.

Don't forget Wii music 2.0.

It's not clear what it shares to me, but I was talking about sharing in general.

I don't care with videos and screens too, but I see how some people might be interested. After all, it seems to work well on Miiverse.
