[Wired] 10 best games you haven't played

Meh. The article might have been interesting if he didn't restrict himself to 2004 and really did some digging for hidden gems. Picking games from a single year is inherrantly going to be predictable.

Gradius V? I own that. the U.S. one to boot.

this list is pretty stupid.

I'd like to see a list of games that were good that never made it out whatsoever.

or AT LEAST a list of rare Japanese games that never came out in the west.

We should put out a list of "Best games you've never played" and just load it with utter junk!

1. JUNGLE PARK

BEST GAME EVER AND ONLY BRANDONN HAS ALSO HAD THE HORROR OF PLAYING IT!

How are you liking it Brandonn? Did you like the "killer bush" and "oh, you dropped your logs" game play of the initial "build a bridge" game?

I think its a good list for the non-GAF crowd. Not everyone follows games the way we do.

Exactly. The audience needs to be considered here - it's not aimed at gaffers.

Hmm, if any year needs a list of games that flew under the radar it's 2004 mother fuckers!

And this list isn't directed to anyone here at GAF, who has either heard, played or bitched about every game on that list.

"As the name implies, Zero Mission is a top-to-bottom remake of the original 1987 Metroid."

That's hilarious, because I finally tried it for the first time last night, and was just going to e-mail you a desperate HOW IN THE NAME OF GOD DO YOU BUILD THIS EFFING BRIDGE IF I DON'T STOP SUDDENLY NOT HAVING LOGS BECAUSE I ACCIDENTALLY DECIDED TO WATER MY GARDEN I'M GOING TO SCREAM.

I tried really, really hard. I said to myself "dammit, DC just didn't give this a fair shake, it's certainly got its charms -- I am going to build this bridge and the rest of the game is going to be BRILLIANT" but I couldn't. After like 30 minutes of trying to make my way through the minefield of hotspots and touching every last square inch of island border praying he'd start construction, I just couldn't.

Have you figured out the trick yet?

And also, what a slap in the face those crisp brilliant screens in the manual are compared to the dithered vomit of the PSX port.

"Have you figured out the trick yet?"

yes, i managed to do it...

it's the moving bush that got me though... i mean... wtf?!?!? You might not have got to that point yet...
but basically, once you get the logs and you get past all the points where the monkey just falls over and loses the logs, there is a tiny bit of path you have to navigate perfectly...
if you stray from this 4 pixel wide path, the bush next to you moves out and knocks you over and you lose your logs...

also, the music drove me mad.

But... if you thought that section was bad... wait until you get past the bridge and get to the mini "games".... they just don't work - it's just random shapes moving about that you can't even see properly , after which you are told "Too bad, you lost!" ... it's just amazing...
it's not a game , it's not art, and it's not a multimedia experience... it's just a waste of a disk! ;)

"And also, what a slap in the face those crisp brilliant screens in the manual are compared to the dithered vomit of the PSX port.""

Ha ha ha ha - the thing is though, i don't want to get rid of my copy because it's the sort of thing you show retards who say "Halo 2 / GT4 / Metroid / etc ... is the worst game i've ever played..."

It isn't. Jungle Park is the worst game on the planet. Even the horrible ZX81 games of yore are better

Anyways, as long as i can avoid playing Pirates! tonight, i'll redo the first level and give you a guide through

Hey, I know the guys who run popcap games. I was a beta tester for most of their early games back when they ran ARC and Crazy action cool. I miss ARC :(

I have 4 of those games. Debating on Baiten

Definitley. BK is like Final Fantasy meets Chrono Cross but with it's own unique battle system. No random encounters either. And if you like doing tons of sidequests this is the game.

Great article, Chris!

I've already got Gradius V and Sly 2: Band of Thieves in my collection, and certainly recommend them both. I also intend to pick up Katamari Damacy very soon.

I don't think I can knock the list so much for it being predictable. Given it's written for Wired, the piece will hopefully do a good job of giving casual gamers more of a heads-up on some lesser known games, showing them there's more to life than GTA:SA and Halo 2. The article isn't really meant for the sort of people who post here, so kudos to Koeler for trying to enlighten the masses.

Bejeweled TWO. And it's pretty addictive, as two burned grilled cheese sandwiches will attest.

For some reason, this was the funniest thing I've read all day. Yeah, today sucked.

Don't know whether or not you'd consider me "unbiased", but I'm having alot of fun with Baten Kaitos. The fast paced card battle system is great fun for me, but it's probably not for everybody. The visuals are incredible too.

I also recommend Baten Kaitos. I've been playing it since Sunday and I am loving it. My only issues so far is that the start has been a bit linear and that you can only have 3 party members in battle. The battles though are different than what you'll find elsewhere and seem to offer a lot of stuff to try.

You people will bitch about anything. Hell, I'm just surprised that Wired even knew half of those games existed.

Yeah, pretty much. Oh man you sure burned me. Oh hey look at my tag that I gave myself basically admitting my bias to the games. Oh and my tongue in cheek posts regarding the series. Good job pointing those out.
WOW, Wellington. The guy just helped you out after you slammed him for being biased and you bitch that he called you on your [however obvious] R&C bias? Blah.

It wasn't meant to burn you. I just wanted to help you with a BK decision :)
