Witcher 3 gameplay from YouTubers from CDPR event

I heard NPCs talking about it on my play through last week, but it never amounted to anything. I was curious as well.

Also who is Anais?

Anais is
the daughter of Foltest (probably) and the Baroness La Valette and is therefore a bastard. You get her back from the rebels during the prologue. She is the most likely heir for the throne of Temeria.

Do we have any ideas yet how this will run on AMD cards? Were any of those youtube videos in the first post played on AMD hardware??

DUDE, I can't believe it's almost here LOL

Seriously, looks incredible. Think I'll go physical for the extra goodies and 10 bucks at BB towards AK. But then again DD is 10 bucks cheaper and no disc switching (Have 3 others that use the system so it does make a difference LOL)

I'm not worried but I am looking forward to true PS4 footage next week.

will there be a preload for the GOG version?

Yes, they guaranteed a preload, they just haven't made it available yet.

My hope is that the GOG preload, since its direct from developer, will already have the day one patch. And I'm sure it'll come with some extra goodies.

Ah yes. I remember her now, though I only saw her then and never after if I can recall.

I need to do a second play through. I feel like I missed a ton.

If you accompanied Roche at the end of Act 1,
you have the chance to meet and rescue her in Act 3
. If you chose Iorveth instead, you never see her again.

Geralt certainly looks better with a beard.

In regards to GPU requirements; I'm confident that my 770 can run it well, hopefully I won't need to upgrade to the 900 series.

I have a 760 but that's the only thing that doesn't exceed the recommended requirements. I think we'll be good to go ;)

Hello,
Can a Gaffer tell me what are the most noticeable changes in the combat system, in relation to TW2 ?

- Each sign can be upgraded, have multiple levels. (i.e Igni can be upgraded from a standard burst of flame, to a focused flame like a flamethrower with higher intensity

- Crossbow has been added for underwater combat and for airborne enemies

- Fist fighting is real time, not QTE like Witcher 2

- Over 100 animations have been added to the sword combat. This includes different types of moves, dodges, pirouettes, finishers. Finishers are real time, and not a cut scene.

- Parrying is important, and can deal more damage if done right. This has to be timed at the right moment

- Each swing animation is quick, and triggered by the press of a button, it can be interrupted at any time and changed to the next sword swing. Witcher 2 you are locked into an animation and take damage until the animation has finished. One button press now equals one swing of the sword, gives you full control.

- The various dodge moves have been added so the game plays like a lite version of souls. You dodge or parry and then strike. The roll still exists, its a different button press, and less effective than it was in W2, you also can't regen while rolling to encourage better ways to play. Dodge moves are the best tactic to perform in fights as it can leave your enemy exposed.

- Combat camera is better than in the W2, it zooms out a bit so you can see all enemies and anticipate better their attack moves

I'm sure there are whole heap I am not describing, however the combat is more tactical, smoother, and responsive.

You will see some gameplay videos where players are still rolling, that's just a bad habit from Witcher 2.

Those videos where players are using dodge correctly look very elegant and put you in a much better position to strike.

I just finished up Roche playthrough and have to say that TW2 is still great looking game. Kinda funny how most optimal/fastest way of travel is to have a sword in hand and roll around like Sonic. Also had hard time in Act 3,
choosing between Triss and Anaïs
, that always been struggle for me for some reason.

Still going to do Iorveth playthrough and looking towards to learn more about Saskia the Dragonslayer.

Edit: I wonder what that comet is, just skybox filler?

that's obviously a UFO. *pre-order justified*
Next week, apparently Sony is cutting it themselves according to earlier posts in this thread.

That's good. Better late than never, because this is definitely waaaaaaaay late for this to be their 1st time actually showing direct feed console footage.

The combat is still pretty... Transparant, but man, has it improved by leaps and bounds from the first showing i saw with the griffin.

No qualms at all about postulating that this will confidantly claim the crown of best witcher game, and not just because its new.

Yeah but at least it's still 2 weeks ahead. Besides like I've said before, I'm not worried considering what they pulled off with W2 on the 360. I just want to see it LOL.

Those are exactly the types of changes I wanted to see. I'm pretty sure I'm going to be happy with the combat with these changes.

Oh yes. Yes yes yes. Yeessssss. I need to play this fucking game!

I'm torn on hairworks. On one hand, fuck yeah fancy pants technology that does "look good" for what it is. On the other hand, super expensive to render and honestly, stylistically I much prefer the lower tech hair and how it bunches together.

Hairworks and TressFX go a long way towards increasing strand complexity, density, and physics. But fall apart in conveying believable consistency and matting. Too shiny, too thin.

I'll see what the performance cost is and if it's a bit too high for my liking, combined with an unnaturally clean haired Geralt, I'll swap back to default.

To be fair, given these are video games and rendering hair is hard, both The Witcher and the Witcher 2 have a lot of effort put into Geralt's hair physics without fancy tech. There will always be limitations but I thought his hair in the last two games looked great.

Edit: I wonder what that comet is, just skybox filler?

I'm pretty sure comets are omens of war, and appears in Chapter 2 as a combination of Henselt's campaign and his triggering of Sabrina's curse.

RE: Wild Hunt. Funny thing is if you do the gargoyle quest in Chapter 3 there's a pretty obvious bait for the sequel.

You hold the sword of Aramil, who defied his king's rule. The Lord of the Wild Hunt desires the gene of the Elder Blood. He seeks to fling open the gates between the worlds, so that terror and destruction may reign. The King of the Hunt ordered me slain, and the wraiths born of his command assumed living form, pursuing me through the voids between the worlds for centuries. I have arrived at Loc Muinne. Though tired, I know I will not rest. The riders of the Hunt draw near. On my back I can feel their deathly breath.

Yeah if I can run it I will. While it is not perfect on Geralt, it makes a world of difference on monsters, your horse, fur armors, and female NPCs. Yeah you're looking at Geralt more, but it's worth the trade off IMO.

Just anxious to see how well it performs on my PC. (Once I fix my PC...)

Also I kind of figured that was what the comet was, but wasn't sure..

is the pc version the only one that is 60 fps?
30fps on PS4 and XBO at 1080p and 900p.

60+ FPS on PC, whatever resolution you can handle.

how does the ciri gameplay work

can we switch freely or will she only be playable for a few missions?

What Corpekata said: linear, scripted missions integrated into the story and triggered when applicable. CDPR said they're mostly for when Geralt is on Ciri's trail and finds a location she's been, which'll be followed by a playable flashback sequence with Ciri showing what actually happened. Ciri does not have access to the open world nor a developing skill tree, her missions are purely story.

Sounds pretty much like an evolution of the quick bite in TW2 where you played other characters. Which is fine by me.

Yea, this is definitely NOT how it's gonna look on my PS4 :(

Should look better than that on PS4.

Will be a nice crisp 1080p, and should have pretty similar fidelity to that gif.

The fancy lighting and HairWorks, and AA aren't really on display in that Gif for various reasons. No reason your PS4 shouldn't be able to recreate that GIF with reasonably close fidelity. M
Mehta remains to be seen is how much draw distance takes a hit on consoles compared to PC. But I can't see it being THAT drastic.

don't know what to do with this game. i'm probably gonna hold off and see what kind of performance to expect from my 290 (i5-4590/8GB) or just go with PS4.

A) stick with my 290 (i5-4590/8GB) - just gotta buy the game after holding off to see what performance to expect. i'd hope to get at least 1080p 60fps medium/high.

B) upgrade to 980 - buy the game + £450-500 GPU

C) play on PS4. - buy the game and get 1080p 30fps

Your 290 will run the game more than twice as well as PS4, so even considering PS4 is ridiculous.

Yes.

Though you may want to jump to 16GB as I hear 8 can cause stuttering in some modern games. Unsure of how true that is though.

I played and finished most nextgen only games (ACU, GTA5, Ryse, Dying Light, Lords of the Fallen and many others) and have yet to encounter a game where 8GB is not enough.

I can't see my PS4 render all this dense vegetation and will we have the fog effect in the distance? i think it won't be as detailed on my PS4.
