Yes your setup is still infinitely better than consoles.

Got this bad boy preloaded on my X1. Not only is The Witcher 2 a favorite of mine, but I've been ITCHIN for an RPG to play on my X1 and the wait will soon be over.

THE HYPE IS REAL

I have slightly worse setup and I run all nextgen games twice as well as PS4 does.

Hopefully the game will look good on XB1.

Edit: Actually I know it will but in comparison to the PC version I hope it won't look bad.

if this is not the best wrpg ever will it least crack top 5..

Nobody really knows until it comes out. It definitely looks promising, but it's impossible to judge some things from the relatively small amount of footage we have.

On another note, the landscapes in this game are stunning. I loved the video of Geralt on a high peak in the Skellige islands.

Lots of game devs say the old line of "do you see the far away mountain? In our game you can go up there!", I think that short video shows how at least CDP weren't lying. :P

Yep. Hope they go with the trend of including one. As a sidenote, because of your avatar I imagine that everything that you say, you say while being deeply upset and shocked.

Amazing, you hear me? AMAZING

I would have loved for it on D1, i doubt i'll pick up the game once finished just to take some cool photos...

Yeah, seeing scenery like that and realizing I can actually go walk through those valleys and climb those peaks is incredibly exciting.

I saw someone asking about his specs, so decided I might as well :)
Although I have the game pre-ordered on Xbox One, I would prefer it on my laptop. However, I think it might be even below min specs?

Intel Core i7 2630-QM
RAM 8GB
GeForce GTX 580M 2GB GDDR5

What do you guys think - will it run the game? If yes, will it look much worse than on Xbox One?

My computer isn't good enough to play The Witcher 2, and I don't own a 360 -- short of a playthrough, what's the best way to catch up on the story and prepare for this one?

- Each sign can be upgraded, have multiple levels. (i.e Igni can be upgraded from a standard burst of flame, to a focused flame like a flamethrower with higher intensity

- Crossbow has been added for underwater combat and for airborne enemies

- Fist fighting is real time, not QTE like Witcher 2

- Over 100 animations have been added to the sword combat. This includes different types of moves, dodges, pirouettes, finishers. Finishers are real time, and not a cut scene.

- Parrying is important, and can deal more damage if done right. This has to be timed at the right moment

- Each swing animation is quick, and triggered by the press of a button, it can be interrupted at any time and changed to the next sword swing. Witcher 2 you are locked into an animation and take damage until the animation has finished. One button press now equals one swing of the sword, gives you full control.

- The various dodge moves have been added so the game plays like a lite version of souls. You dodge or parry and then strike. The roll still exists, its a different button press, and less effective than it was in W2, you also can't regen while rolling to encourage better ways to play. Dodge moves are the best tactic to perform in fights as it can leave your enemy exposed.

- Combat camera is better than in the W2, it zooms out a bit so you can see all enemies and anticipate better their attack moves

I'm sure there are whole heap I am not describing, however the combat is more tactical, smoother, and responsive.

You will see some gameplay videos where players are still rolling, that's just a bad habit from Witcher 2.

Those videos where players are using dodge correctly look very elegant and put you in a much better position to strike.

Thanks :) And do you have some news about Quen ? Because in TW2 it was really broken.

Well, I suppose watching a let's play of it would be the best way, you'd see all the interactions, dialogue, side quests etc. There's also a "movie" version of the game on Youtube with all the gameplay segments cut. There are also short summaries around NeoGAF (eatchildren's thread, couple of more older ones I seem to recall), though those are pretty short so they're probably better for people who have played the game and just want a reminder on what's happened.

This guy has let's plays of TW2: https://www.youtube.com/user/ChristopherOdd
This one has the movie version: https://www.youtube.com/user/Medy89

Is there like a great video that recaps the events but doesn't spoiler everything to hell and back?

I don't think it's physically possible to recap the events of the earlier games and/or books and NOT spoil them lol, but if I misunderstood you, here's a recap video from the community thread's OP: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VlvkjMYcryI
Like I said, spoils probably everything prior TW3 (and personally I have a hard time understanding the guy's accent soooo there could be better recap videos around)

So, I finally gave in and preordered the game. However, I am quite the noob when it comes the Witcher series. I have seen gameplay from the Witcher 2 and I have a slight grasp of the general storyline.

I actually wanted to pick up the books, but due to the last month of thesis and somebody spoiling some large segments, I decided to refrain from it.

Anyway, I have heard that the Witcher 3 will be quite accessible for newcomers in terms of story. So, I probably wouldn't be surprised if there's an expansive encyclopedia that gives exposition on what's happened and who are the main players. But what should I really know beforehand? Is there like a great video that recaps the events but doesn't spoiler everything to hell and back?

I agree as well. Photo modes should just become standard in games, in my opinion. Especially games with outstanding visuals. A lot of people love to take screenshots and to have more control over the process. I know I do.

Someone should ask CDPR if they have any plans.

A single GTX 580m? That's a bit worse than a PS4, so basically Xbone levels more or less.

I'm a little confused about the 'open world' nature of the game. A couple of these videos suggested that it's not one big map, but rather a few separate open areas which you travel between automatically, rather than literally traversing the landscape between these areas.

So is it not fully open world like e.g. Skyrim?

Yes and no.

Game has several huge areas, e.g.Novigrad + No Man's Land is one such huge area, that you enter through loading screen. You can't travel in real time from e.g. No Man's Land to Skellige Islands [another huge area], but you fast travel there through loading screen.

Once in area you won't have any loading screens while exploring it and doing things there. Areas are fully open world design, go anywhere you want to as long you manage to stay alive as monsters don't scale. Also areas themselves are huge and will take quite a bit time to explore fully.

Witcher 3 seems to be very big RPG with very large open world areas.

Well, it is and isn't. The whole game world is split in two separate main areas but they both are about the size of the whole map of Skyrim. The areas are geographically so far away from each other that the quick travel system is required and makes sense there.

Then there's several other smaller open world maps like the tutorial area that has 5 - 10 hours of gameplay.

Makes sense, thanks for both explanations!

Pretty sure I've seen it asked on the forums and they said there's no photomode at launch, nor do they have it planned. However they said they've seen a number of people request it, so the appropriate devs have been alerted and we might see it eventually.

Heres a good visual comparison someone did.

Anyone know if the yellow on the map is the quest zone? Or is this one of those specific mission-tailored maps separate from the open world and the yellow is the map boundary?

It's a quest zone, you can see the circle on the map on different gameplay videos.

I'm not totally sure, but in another video I watched, the yellow area on the map was the quest zone where Geralt would use his witcher senses to search for clues within that area related to the current quest.

Man, I am anxious as to what the console graphics are going to look like (XB1 specifically). I have heard that the previews are quite good, and I am no aficionado by any means, but it's probably going to look great regardless. I loved DA:I's world too, with one of my only nitpicks (albeit very minor one) was that some effects like the ones on fire spells were kinda blurry I suppose?

Still anxious though, having such a huge landscape without any loading screens, something's gotta give probably.

I could have sworn one of the recent screenshots had a desert like environment in it.

Anyway, I just watched a bunch of new footage on the front page and my hype has skyrocketed. It looks damn good. Hopefully the PS4 footage surprises me aswell.

Pretty sure these zones are kind of the areas where you find the object or enemies you are looking for, no boundaries.

EDIT: Yeah, the yellow circles are just "your objective is in here somewhere" zones.

I could have sworn one of the recent screenshots had a desert like environment in it.

There is one. It doesn't fit the known regions in the two main open worlds, so like White Orchard it's probably an additional area that is unlocked as the story progresses.

It could be the Korath desert, from the Witcherverse. Or somewhere weird.

Should look better than that on PS4.

Will be a nice crisp 1080p, and should have pretty similar fidelity to that gif.

The fancy lighting and HairWorks, and AA aren't really on display in that Gif for various reasons. No reason your PS4 shouldn't be able to recreate that GIF with reasonably close fidelity. M
Mehta remains to be seen is how much draw distance takes a hit on consoles compared to PC. But I can't see it being THAT drastic.

The fog and the cloud are Nvidia effects, though. Very very very likely not on console versions, even if on AMD cards

Gopher was on Co-Optional Podcast and one of the topics they talked about was Witcher 3; https://youtu.be/ZwTK0Tjk9PQ?t=1482

Are there any comparisons made to other open world maps?

A lots, but it's anyones guess how accurate comparisons they are as we don't have 100% accurate numbers from TW3.

Smaller vegetation still not casting any shadows.

Didn't even notice before you pointed that out. I guess that says a lot about how much I care for such small IQ "effects" like leafs casting shadows.
