Witcher 3 gameplay from YouTubers from CDPR event

For now we know that single 980 without hairworks can sometimes in busy scenes have framedrops below 60fps at 1080p. Gopher mentioned that.

Which means it's probably running at between about 60fps to 80fps, with occasional drops below that. This makes it likely that my overclocked MSI 970 will be running it at between about 55fps to 75fps at ultra settings minus hairworks. This seems great to me.

I'm more concerned about the ridiculous amount of empty space around the edge of the UI. They'd better have a UI/safe zone adjustment.. that's almost Watch Dogs level of screen intrusion right there. I don't even know why devs do this any more.. safe zones haven't really been a thing since CRTs.

I recall from an earlier interview the UI is adjustable.

Yeah, that bugged the shit outta me with WD. I hope they have that option too. I'd be surprised if they didn't considering how much they've talked about with the UI being pretty customizable.

I've asked for clarification on the CDPR forums, not really holding my breath for a Red response, though.

I have heard the talk of "UI Scaling", but that typically refers to the size of UI elements, rather than their position. GTA5 did it right by having an adjustable "safe zone" setting that allowed you to push UI elements all the way to the edge of the screen, I only hope CDPR does the same thing here.

I hope this is the case. My 780 want's to be left alone to do just hairworks, but the 980 Ti isn't out yet, so I'm gonna work this card like the dwarf cock it is.

Well, theres the E3 stage demo of X1 and some offscreen footage of each. Theres no recent direct footage. Presumably, there'll be some tomorrow.

Hmm isn't that a bit suspicious, or at least weird? Kind of unheard of for a game of this caliber to not have any console gameplay footage only a couple weeks away from release. I wonder if there is a reason for it.

PC-centric developer.

Lots of games only show one console version throughout most of the time leading up to release, and people on the other console and on PC just have to guess how it will look on their platforms. This game comes from a PC-centric developer and PC is apparently the main version they wanted to show. At least there has been console footage, though, and we'll be getting more tomorrow.

I'm watching tonight's stream now and I have to say I'm really liking the combat. It seems like there is a great number of skills you can invest in that can possibly change your entire approach to combat. Especially the skill tree for signs and the two different usages of them by either pressing or holding the button seem very impressive.

Definitely a huge step up from the second game.

Scale shouldn't affect how centered HUD is. In that screenshot you can see HUD elements being pushed towards center of the screen.

I can't say if you can adjust the placement of the UI, they just mentioned it's adjustable. If it's gonna be placed that centered on the screen, and can't be placed towards the upper corners. I will simply toggle it off.

Can you kill some NPCs like in the first Witcher?

This was taken out in part 2 and i feel it took something about the inmersion of the world. In some aspects regarding towns, NPCs and in general atmosphere Witcher 1 had the upper hand even if it was runing in a less graphically impressive engine.

A detail that always stays in my mind was watching the NPCs runing away from the rain and sheltering themselves below any structure.

its weird they arent showing the xboxone version though they have a marketing deal. Also please that is everything holy, let them patch in photomode for the console versions.

So, I'm reading the books and seeing lots of differences in the names (my books, in PT-BR, are translated from the Polish version, so many original names are mantained I guess):

Wyzim for Vizima. Jaskier for Dandelion. Two from the top of my head. Anyone have a list of changed names?

uThe Pegi rating has something in it that I found interesting. It says something like "killing helpless people", haha it's great some of the things that the ratings boards find to decide about what makes a particular game worthy of being 18+

I think that probably means that you can kill townfolk if you want.

I love how it also looks like the characters clothes become wet when it's raining etc.

I'm going to be playing with hairworks on with all ultra settings I'm really hoping that my twin 7970's can do it. I'm looking for a cheap 7990 at the moment so I can go trifire just for that little bit of extra ompf but I don't think I'll need it.

What do people think about the worthiness of windows 10 for this game?

Also, I am absolutely thrilled with the DLC prospects for this game. The 16 post launch that will come each week and then the two big adventures that are tacked on later.

Most of the mages names are slightly different and a lot of the cities.

What do ppl think about including summaries / spoilers for the books in the W3 OT?

Well as for your last line, those details still existed in 2, and will exist again in 3 to an even greater extent. The NPC AI and the living world will only be improved.

As for the rest, I believe you can kill some random NPC's, but it's still very limited.
Rightfully so quite frankly. Geralt wouldn't just go around killing random people in the world, it doesn't fit his character and it doesn't fit the game. Even being able to randomly walk up and kill Ramsmeat's men in TW1 highly broke my immersion because it's just not what Geralt would do. Yes, Witcher 1 had better atmosphere in general than 2, but as for who you were able to randomly attack, Witcher 2 held much closer to both the lore and Geralt as a character, so I hope they don't stray too far from that in Witcher 3. This isn't GTA.

Thanks guys. Yep I was thinking of putting them all in Spoiler tags. I'll keep my summaries of the books simple but be warned there are what I think to be some significant elements to W3's plot contained in a few of the books.

But I also think for the perfect understanding of the series it's better to know what came before so you know the truth behind certain characters actions.

I'll definitely do it right.

I'm hoping people will love the OT. I've done a few memorable ones from the past (BF3 and LA Noire to name w couple) but don't worry it's not going to be anywhere near as bullshit big as those ones. Concise, to the point, with info needed for an OT and not just fluff filler to make it huge for the sake of huge's sake. I'm so happy to be involved I love making OT's for games I love. Thanks heaps to Snuggles for letting me be involved / take over a bit.

The hairworks on the monsters is looking so awesome.

That hairwork!

Really disappointed to hear that they cut out blood splatters in the game, at least according to the official forums:

http://forums.cdprojektred.com/threads/34773-Blood-Decals?p=1633045&viewfull=1#post1633045

I don't get why they'd remove such a feature. it was in both Witcher 1 and 2 and blood splatters/decals don't take a lot of horsepower to have (this is something games in the 90's used).

Ratings wise, the game is rated M, so it can't be for that reason either (especially when you consider how gory the finishers are).

I just don't get why in any way shape or form they decided to remove something as simple (but awesome) as blood splatters for combat, it makes combat so much more visceral when you're fighting and hit things and see the blood splatter on the ground/environment.

Even DA:I had this.

Nice, looking forward to it. What is the OT policy these days? I remember they changed it to day of, but I've seen some stuff go up a day or so early, so its 24hrs?

Yeah, that is odd especially since its still on for some creatures. Even if it hit the ground and immediately fades away would be better than nothing.

Strange indeed. We've seen videos where he's slicing off head and slitting bodies in half with blood on the head and bodies, but no splatter? We might see his junk, but we draw the line at blood spatter? Really?

I doubt they are drawing the line at blood splatter, it was in earlier builds and previous games. I actually wonder if its a bug that popped up and it just had such low priority they didnt get to it in time. Kinda like the Sun Rising in the west during the Prologue.

Someone want to hit Twitter and find out? Would be a dissapointing omission indeed.

Gorgeous new screenshots.

Gonna guess they're downsampled from 4K though, or something like that, which most people wont be doing. The super clean foliage has me suspicious. If I'm remembering correctly, even with the aggressive LOD culling the way foliage is rendered improves significantly when you introduce some downsampling. Really, really helps keep the quality of low quality foliage LOD, which seems evident in these screens. The assets are the same, but the higher IQ goes a long way.

Can anyone confirm for me when we think the game is being "unlocked"? Do we know that detail yet?

Especially for us Aussies. Because if I bought the steam version and I can't play it until a day later than if I bought the physical copy which will be available in stores on the 19th.

It looks so great. Thanks to whomever edited out the mission title spoilers.

I'm really glad they are. I don't like those kinds of hints about the story. That's also why I kind of prefer watching the gameplay videos in languages other than the ones I speak: it makes it harder for story elements to be spoiled for me.

There's some articles about if you google around. I remember translating the time for my area and it'd be unlocking at I think 4 PM pacific time on the 18th.

1am 19/05 CET

If I'm right 1am 19/05 CET translates to roughly between 9 - 11am 19/05 Melbourne.

I thought all their HQ screens have been downsampled since day 1. There have been no signs of aliasing in any of the official screenshots iirc. It would be interesting to see how screen resolution affects LOD culling. Are you saying that was the case in the previous witcher games?

Yep that's 9AM here woop! That's good I was worrying that id have to wait a day longer judging by the steam clock.

I've already purchased the steam version but I'm seriously considering picking up the collectors edition because I really want that darn artbook. I just can't seem to decide, I guess it's the hype killing me and making me want / need it so badly.

Then there's the question of whether steam will pre-load before release because a 40gb download will take some time on the actual day.

I'm more interested in the third picture.
Won't there be shadows in indoors area?

Not from fire that Geralt casts, which is dynamic lighting. Pretty sure you will have shadows from static light sources

There's always been something wrong with the way that looked and I never realized it was the shadows. I'll probably not remember while I'm playing. Heh.

Maybe there's no shadows on that little section because there are multiple light sources.
