Does anybody know when the review embargo for this game lift?CDPR seems pretty confident in the game
Are you sure about your scale? The W3 map looks a bit small now compared to GTAV.
Putting it that way, it makes more sense. I have more realistic expectations now. How is GTAV's map compared to RDR's?

That previous map comparison was way off. This one is more accurate in my opinion. But based on my own estimations it's still off somewhat. TW3 map is shrunken down too much for the scale to be equal.
Game looks absolutely incredible, it's always been a day one purchase.
But can we at least tone down the wind just a tad? The poor trees are about to snap in half, looks like a fucking hurricane is going through the land in almost every video lol.
I don't know about others, but Geralt's hair are definitely not calm. That's my concern too :/
Grass is calm. Geralt's hair is calm. Skirts/dresses on NPCs are calm.
shouldn't GTA V be "smaller" then, because a car or helicoper is much faster than a horse? That's not really a way to compare true map size. Each game has its own geographic scale, so a mile in one is not mile in another. For example, to get an idea of true size you might compare walking a game mile with the main character. If the game says you moved a mile on their map in 500 steps for one game, but the other game scale didn't hit a mile until 700 steps, then miles weigh more in the second game. Plus there's things like building scale and verticality.
The 49 square mile figure is including water, I believe ("world size")If you rotate my comparison map, the km² of the map IS actually roughly equal. So...?
Uh, it's the same map in both comparisons. Latter is just rotated to a different position.*rolleyes*

If you look my map carefully, you'll see I've scaled the Skellige islands and pasted them to the east of the main land. There's also the tutorial are above it, so my map should cover most of the playable terrain.

Not long now.

I mean it's not affected by the wind. Only by his own movements. The trees sway like they're in tropical storms, and everything else (grass, hair, clothing) is acting like it's a gentle breeze.
Smaller in the sense that you cover it faster if you use faster travel. So in a game that's primarily vehicle based, it's very possible that GTA V can feel smaller to some because of how fast you can cover it by normal means. That doesn't literally tell you all of the elements of building and geographical scale though.shouldn't GTA V be "smaller" then, because a car or helicoper is much faster than a horse?
Not that I'm saying that a smaller world means that the game is objectively worse.

Their map has a proprietary scale like any game. Technically, it has what they've built to be an estimated mile, but games generally don't ever use exact scales. It would be a disgustingly boring game if you had to ride dozens of miles in real time on real scale. It's adjusted in some ways and no, they wouldn't use footsteps to count, that was just an example for how you can better grasp the true scale of how the world is actually scaled for the player to experience.Wouldn't CD Projekt Red be getting their size estimates from their creation tools? I don't think they'd be working it out be footsteps?

I don't see that. His hair moves quit a lot in the wind. I think they should tone down the wind a bit in general, but I think some of you are exaggerating it. Maybe some of you don't live in very windy places, but where I live wind like that is quite common, especially in the spring and fall, and it moves the trees to a very similar degree. I just hope they have a good variety of different wind speeds, from calm all the way to stormy.
So who's waiting for his CE ?

The main map that you posted is just the northern part. The "tutorial" part Of the map isn't a tutorial but where you actually start the game. There is a prologue of the game but that map and the prologue is way down south which you don't show. I'm not sure how big gta's map is or not saying your compare size is wrong. I'm just saying your not showing the entire witcher 3 map which I've seen and played.

No, you misunderstood. I'm talking about the relative size of the maps for both games, which is the whole basis of what we're talking about. The previous comparison (done by somebody else) had a tiny GTA5 map against a giant Witcher 3 map. Yours, on the other hand, has a moderately smaller Witcher 3 map against a larger GTA5 map (size relative to each other). I do think your comparison is much more accurate than the previous one, but I also think you're underestimating the size of the Witcher 3 map(s) somewhat.

with just two weeks from launch, I'm surprised I haven't seen more pics of them being in the wild yet.
I do think yours is probably fairly close. Definitely way closer than that previous one.Ah, sorry. Yeah, the first map comparison... I don't think the guy who made that had any scale calculations done when doing that and just put his wet fan boyish dream in that pic.
On the other hand, I'm sure my comparison is at least relatively close to the truth, as I really tried to get the sense of scale by comparing building sizes and distances from several gameplay videos and screenshots. but we'll see when the game is done.
For better or worse, I'm sure we'll all enjoy the game and the world is large enough.

Where do people even put these without ruining the style of their home?

Is there any test/preview of this game on a low-end config settings (I have a Q6600, 6gb ram and a 560 gtx ti) ? I hope that CDPR will make a decent job in optimization...
No clue how it will or will not run but usually takes a few patches to really fix some issues that are bound to pop up.
Which is rather typical with PC games and.....pretty much most games nowadays it seems.
CDPR kind of has a habit of fixing and improving the game over time ie: See Witcher 1 and 2.
It's not that typical anymore unless it's a broken and unfinished game like Unity

can we stop posting bullshit scale maps? FOV, camera angle, mode of transportation, run speed, verticality...ALL of these effect scale. you can't just plug in some metrics handed down by the dev and trust them, and you definitely can't just eyeball it from having seen some pre-release footage.
My comparison map is not bullshit. It doesn't rely on reported km² but precisely the sense of perceived scale (FOV, movement speed etc.) I've noted when comparing gameplay videos. It might not be perfect, but it surely gives you the ballpark of the size of the game world.

But why? Why u need to compare/measure it? What's the point?
I really can't understand this.
aka doesn't rely on objective data but instead on intuition and eyeballed observation. No thanks. I know GTAV quite well and it's clear to me that the mainland is quite a bit larger than the picture depicts.

editn second thought Dragon s Dogma felt quite large even though im sure it's but a fraction of GTAV. So I reign in my above statement a little. Then again Dragon Age felt small, but it's map was huge.
It's all about the perceived, objective size as all game worlds are about the illusion of the space. If you have a map ~equal to GTA V and no means to travel it but by walking or on horseback, it will feel HUGE.
WTF?
I had no idea it's so huge
That's the typical "advertising box" to make piles in retail stores, as ads. Not the real CE, I suppose.
