Well, actually, I have a Gsync monitor, so even if the framerate fluctuates between like 45fps and 75fps it will feel extremely smooth.

I just realized why Witcher 3 reminds me more of Witcher 1 -- the camera. In Witcher 2 CDP zoomed it in quite a bit, but in Witcher 3 it seems to be zoomed out again. I only realized this when I was looking through Witcher 2 mods at the REDkit site and noticed one that zooms the camera back out.
I also still feel like Witcher 1's environments are larger which probably gives that game's NPC AI more room to stretch its legs. There are also other tidbits like how it displays names and subtitled dialogue over characters. Maybe I just had those things turned off in Witcher 2. In any case, I remember Witcher 2 (haven't played it since 2011) being a more "closed-in" game.
On the subject, are there any really well-liked Witcher 2 mods other than the combat reblaance?

Overdosing causes you to lose health. I don't know if there any other effect.
I took the advice of this thread and played Witcher instead of watching the story videos only. Played it on easy difficulty because I hate the combat. Beat it tonight. I'm definitely glad I played it. The story was pretty good and I love the characters.
Then I started Witcher 2 tonight.
Holy fuck. I haven't felt this way about starting a new RPG since I was a teenager (31 now). I'm loving literally everyhing thus far. Now my hype for W3 is reaching astronomical levels. I hope W2 stays this good.

That's pretty much exactly what I did. Played through W1 and enjoyed it but didn't love it, then started up Witcher 2 and it was an immediate "Holy shit where's this game been all my life?" moment. I played through it twice in a row, which is something I'd never dreamed of doing with an RPG.

Glad you guys love it. I beat the game twice as well on my first playthrough.
TW2 was a PC exclusive for some time so it's perfectly normal if the game is out of the radar for some people. When the EE and X360 version announced it was kinda late and the hype was outshined by the new games that year.
Also JesseCox and Dodger got invited to that event and went so coverage from them is also going to happen. I'm very interested to hear what Jesse has to say as he is usually very critical of RPGs.
He's also somewhat of a Witcher fan tho.

Easily to forget the game is only a few days shy of one month away. Really kind of snuck up on me, I guess because I'd gotten into a routine of seeing bits and pieces of the game every couple of months for the last two years. A long time of drip fed info and footage. I remember that first reveal art:

We have seen X1 footage here and there, e.g. E3 2014 had it in MS press event. I don't think we have seen any footage from most up to date builds tho.
Also I wouldn't be surprised if PS4 footage is MIA because of deal they have with MS about whole marketing stuff and such. Still some press has seen all three versions and have said all of them look very good and perform well.
I never played any Witcher game (will consume the books though to get into the setting), but a decent amount of other open world games. All I want is a somewhat relaxing experience, build up my character, enjoy the story, explore the world, and some mild challenges. So that certain key battles are a bit of a challenge, but not too frustrating, but I do not want to be biting my nails all the time. Yet still I also do not want to just smash buttons and never die no matter what I wear or skill.
Will I be bored to death when I start this game at Easy? Or will Normal be perfectly fine at start and after 20 hours make me quit out of frustration? Help me decide please! I am not aiming for Platin, just play through once, including most of the optional stuff, eventually.
For a reference: I had a lot of fun platinuming games like the Ratchet & Clank or Infamous series, which are not hard, but needed concentration for certain stuff. But I know Bloodborne and similar games are not for me.

Why the need to order the game before it's realeased? Can't you just wait and buy on day 1 o 2? You will have all information by then.
Also, what Batman have to do with the Witcher?
How should we know? The game is releasing on May 19th.
I think easy could be that "boring button smash with no fear of death" experience so I would start with medium setting and see how it feels.
You make good point, Witcher 3 doesn't have any of that "Pre-order to get relevant content you would otherwise miss out on" stuff going on, all post-release DLC is same and free on all platforms and expansion pass is always available.
He mentioned Batman just as example for showing off console versions good amount before games release.

Thing is that W2 was very different from W1 and W3 looks to be very different from W2. Not just in world design [more linear vs. open world], but also how combat is completely redone. This makes estimating difficulty choice kinda tricky as we can't really compare to previous Witcher games. I still would say that go with Medium from the get go.
I know it can only be an educated guess, I ask for experience with prior Witcher games.
Regarding the missing PS4 infos: Microsoft paid for the preview exclusivity, a dev already confirmed to a degree, of course they can't directly do so. All they can say at the moment is: it will be fine. Guess we don't have to worry, watch some Xbox One gameplay footage and think 44% more pixels.

We don't have a good quality- direct feed footage of that demo, so for me it's like they didn't show it cause i can't judge how close it is to the PC version.
There is a 10% discount on PSN and I'd like to use it if they would bother to show me the PS4 version.
And Batman is an example for a big AAA game that also shared only PC footage but did bother to present us with the PS4 version even though it's coming out later than the W3.

The Witcher 2 was pretty challenging on normal. Easy was probably be a mix of relaxing, yet occasionally challenging. I'm also pretty sure you can change the difficulty on the fly. Someone else will have to confirm or deny that.
Only thing I found hard in Witcher 2 was
Letho fight in that bathroom

I am playing the Witcher 2 now, and Normal is kicking my ass. You pretty much have to use potions, and oils if you want to win. Otherwise prepare for long ass fights in which you'll likely die when swarmed by enemies. I think I'm still in chap 1 (flotsam), but I'm persisting with normal for now. Not being able to use potions in battles sucks. And the signs being accessed via the slow radial menu is crap. I don't even bother switching signs in battle, and just go with Quen. Hoping the Witcher 3 has a some quick cast shortcut buttons for all signs (L2+X = Igni, L2+O = Aard, etc).
So I'm jumping head first into The Witcher 1 and 2 and livestreaming my experience with them before The Witcher 3 comes out. I've played the first few hours of both of them just testing things out, they both seem good from that with the first one of course having some of that old jank to it but no big deal.
Any tips for me? I'll probably play them on the easiest difficulties and focus on the main story as they're long games and I only have a month to beat them before 3.

It is nice to see how much better TW3 looks now compared to those first oversharpened screenshots.
The difference is not as huge as between first screens from TW1 and the final game, mind.

BTW, the head translator of TW3 into my language said on twitter couple weeks ago that he just saw the most amazing trailer for the game.

Ah I remember when I got my issue of GameInformer with The Witcher 3 on the cover and I read that reveal feature over and over because I was so excited that a new Witcher game was on its way. And, man, the visuals have come a long way since then.
To be honest, if it's anything like The Witcher 2 you might want to start on easy. Quite a lot of the complaints about the combat came from people who found it frustratingly difficult. However, the Witcher 2 also was somewhat more difficult in the beginning than it should have been, so if that difficulty curve has been fixed in The Witcher 3 it's possible normal will be ok for you. But don't expect an easy game.

Seriously though the combat looks much more enjoyable than the stuff from TW2. Ducking out of combat looks relatively smooth.

I dread starting a new game because I don't want to deal with ANYTHING that happens before Flotsam.
That's weird, PlayStation Lifestyle carried an article in February which says CD Projekt Red confirm the PS4 install as being around 50Gb.
I'm not keeping an extensive tally but I've noticed quite a few PS4 multi-platform games have been weighing in a few gigabytes less than than their Xbox One counterparts. I'll be grabbing this on disc so I can delete and re-install it quick (18Mbit DSL here) when I get the urge to replay down the line.

They might have still been going on old estimates. Recently CDPR lowered the storage requirements listed on Steam by 10 gigs.

I like how the water hag tries to pelt you in the head with rocks, I could see running into multiple of them would be a pain.
