To me, Amano's art alternates between Eighth Grade art student level and decent. I mean, some of his stuff is awesome, but the cover to Front Mission History, JESUS CHRIST! It looks like my friend Boner from Mrs. Helm's art class drew it.

BUT Amano is still leagues ahead of Nomo's favorite artist, ROB LIEFELD. And I'll take Amano's stuff over Frank Quietly's ugly crap.

Quite frankly, this guy is hit and miss... mostly hit. I like his fullframe headshots/profiles, but his other work is well, pitiful and painful to look at. I shit doodles better than some of that trash. That FFX pic looks like the kinda crap you find in a Xanga user's drawing pad.
How the hell could anyone like either one of those superhero paintings? Superman looks like a poppet, and that Batman looks about as bad ass as a "Hello Kitty" purse. The worst is that Superman pic. I have seen vaginas that look tougher than that shit.
The sad part is that he probably get's paid well to draw such garbage.

Amano just has a style that I never felt was very appealing to many people. I've always liked his style and looked at it for what it is, not what I think it should be. I like these images, particularly the last one posted of Elektra. If other people don't like them, whatever.

I don't know who this Amano character is...but Doc Holliday can kick his ass.
I like most of Amano's works. He has a very distinct style, one that works well for him. I think the Super and Bat designs, applied to his style, look interesting. Obviously, I wouldn't ever want to see these in classic comic form, but I don't think that was the point of those posters either...
I will never understand Amano. For games and comics he just draws the same basic character types and adds more or less sashes and frills depending on whether or the character is a woman or man or if the scene is in the modern day or not, but when he makes original, "this is meant for a museum" stuff it's fucking genius. Boggles the mind
