I've already accepted the bet and frankly I'm tired of you people ignoring this!

My glorious booty comes at the high price of Avatar 2 beating the first worldwide. Y'all best be excited.

So now that the craziness of The Force Awakens is behind us, BO-GAF's most anticipated future event is member created twerk videos two years from now...

Twerk bets are the future, and the future is now. Avatar bets are dead like pro keds.

This summer gonna see a lot of sad booties getting turnt out on Vine because of irrational bets made in this house.

Based on the past few years... I'm most curious about how GAF reacts to BvS box office... in both directions. If it does well, if it does poorly, if itonly does decently.

The release of Batman vs. Superman in general is going to make GAF a complete shitshow, let alone the box office numbers.

Urgh, I'm not looking forward to the comic book warriors infesting Off topic more than they already do, shit is going to be bad. Mods please save us.

I am expecting a huge first weekend, but shit legs. Basically Man of Steel x 1.5-2.00

Think legs can go either way, doesn't have a ton of competition in April so it may have a bit better legs

We shall see.

But you know it won't end with it's release... gonna be compared to Civil War... then Suicide Squad... X-men is in there

Cap 3's opening weekend will be the worst for heckling. There's no way to avoid that.

I don't think that Suicide Squad or Doc Strange carry much in the way of expectations on them. As long as they don't bomb, I think discourse will be fairly civil.

I don't know how X-men: Apocalypse fits into things.

I think with Suicide Squad and Doctor Strange the biggest comparisons will be how thw occult is handled by Marvel vs DC. So not much boxoffice fight there. Less expectations too.

BvS opens on Good Friday, so there's gonna be a wave of ecstasy and crow shoveling from one camp after it posts a monster opening day... and another camp is gonna go ape shit when it drops 40% on Saturday.

A movie about Superman, a Jesus figure, being rejected by his adopted people and crucified by the media. Opening on Good Friday. Snyderrrrrrr!

Personally I thought remaking it was a terrible idea, like most people, but I can absolutely see why they made it. The first Point Break remake went on to spawn a mega franchise by itself, they were probably hoping this would do the same.

What was "the first Point Break remake"? Can't find any info online.

I dont wanna make a thread for this and since it is about boxoffice... But did the Robocop Remake make enough money that we would get a Sequel?

Nah, I think we'd have heard something by now if they were looking to pursue that further.
Thats sad.

Yeah, I know its a PG-13 remake of a brutal and raw masterpiece, but since I saw it before the original I could get with a open mind of it and I kinda liked it. I only hated the design of the new Robocop.

The original is far superior of course, but different enough that I can like booth.

BvS has no real competition until The Jungle Book hits on April 15th. Man of Steel had 2 $200M movies open in it's 2nd week.

Why would I make a bet when I don't know if the movie will be any good? Right now it can do 3 billion and it can make 800 million worldwide.

There's nothing logical about twerk video bets, thats the whole appeal.

That remind me but The Jungle Book looks really solid so far. I dont care for Disney live action but I'm kinda excited for Jungle Book.

The Revenant was full at my theater and the next showing was sold out. I really don't know how this is doing so much big business but the Leo thirst is real.

Because movie is good and Leo is a boss!

Yeah I think China is a very interesting market, and it's definitely true that there are a lot of unknowns both in terms of dealing with the regulation aspects to even do business there, and successfully connecting with the audience. It's very fun to discuss the ifs and whys about such a big uncharted space.

But do we really need all the off hand remarks about how Chinese audiences don't care about quality every time a movie that's well liked doesn't do as well there? Or the assumption that pandering to Chinese audiences like they are idiots will make a movie successful? (Pro-tip Iron Man 3 tried this and it backfired!) I don't this these things are necessary or helpful to the discussion.
Preach.

The best thing I can say about the robocop remake is that at least it wasn't the total recall remake.
