I'd argue that Brad Pitt is a box-office draw, though his more recent films are not meant for mainstream audiences which limits the appeal. Troy, Mr. & Mrs. Smith and World War Z would not have been as successfull without him starring in the pic.

So this will be Tarantinos last Western, right?

I think it would have been anyhow. At least for a while.

Troy and Mr and Mrs Smith were both over a decade ago. He's about on par with current Will Smith. Having Pitt in your movie doesn't hurt, but he's not going to save a film on his name alone.

Speaking of Ride Along 2, I saw that Tyrese was in it, apparently in a scene that involved cars or something. Got me thinking...how much more fuck awesome would that movie be if Tyrese were playing Roman Pierce and Ride Along was now part of the FFCU?

I would go see it just for that. I'm only sorta joking.

"...for the studio."

It broke DISNEY records, not overall China records.

I think they actually mean Lucasfilm Studio record, Age of Ultron had a better Disney opening.

Will Smith has had 4 consecutive underperforming films under his belt, Brad has done much better in comparison; though that might change with Suicide Squad and possibly Bad Boys 3 coming up.

I expect Revenant to drop considerably. Word of mouth doesn't seem so hot for this movie.

Really? I've been getting the impression it's going over pretty well.

Hateful Eight isn't getting much positive play, it appears, but Revenant looks like it's playing decently.

The Revenant will hold well next weekend. WOM isn't bad. The B+ Cinemascore from a few weeks back doesn't mean much for an adult drama.

To be fair, The Big Short expanded 900 theaters. That said, happy it's having a good run, it's an excellent film.

I really enjoyed the film, it's not for everyone. My mother wanted to see the film as she's a fan of Brad but didn't enjoy it as much due to the financial lingo.

Its only go up from here with the Golden Globes exposure.

Would much rather he be in that picture you posted than Eli Roth, for damn sure.

Eli Roth's role was originally intended for Adam Sandler, who couldn't do it because he was filming Funny People.

I can't even imagine Inglorious Basterds with Sandler. It could have been brilliant or disastrous.

Ok cause I too didn't like Skyfall but haven't seen Spectre. It's THAT bad?

I didn't like Skyfall, but enjoyed Spectre for what it was. Certainly the hype around it helped me criticise it alot less (since its my James Bond movie I have watched on the opening night) but yeah, the pacing might be a problem.

Even Sandler would have been an upgrade. Eli Roth is contemptible.

It probably would have been brilliant. Part of the reason Punch-Drunk Love works as well as it does is that P.T. Anderson sorta recontextualized Sandler's angry man-child bullshit and made it sorta disturbing instead of juvenile. I can only imagine that Tarantino would have amplified that to the nth degree.

Whereas Eli Roth is just a fucking douche in that movie.

I only know two people who saw it but both told me to wait for home video instead of seeing it in theaters.

Maybe it's because I saw it at a theater with 4K projection. I can't imagine anyone say "wait for home video" after seeing that, even if you didn't enjoy it.

H8 would've done much better if it were released 2 or 3 weeks earlier. Tarantino trying uphold a bullshit Christmas Day tradition that obviously no one but him gives a shit about. The split "roadshow" release didn't help either.

Why, why, why would you think it was a good idea to go up against Star Wars Quentin? Why?

Point Break cost $105M? Jesus Christ what the fuck was WB thinking?

They were thinking, "Point Break cost $105M? Jesus Christ what the fuck were you thinking random Chinese production company with more money than sense...but sure we'll distribute it for you and take a cut meaning you're gonna make even less".

I think it was something like that.

Completely unrelated, why in the fuck if DeNiro doing 'Dirty Grandpa'?

This is some Jordan playing for the Wizards-esque fuckery.

Between this and 'Grudge Match'...I don't wanna remember you like this, Bobby. :(

Just the title "Dirty Grandpa" makes me cringe. It's something I'd expect Rob Schneider to star in, not Robert DeNiro.

Eh, it had a limited release and didn't do the full release until 12/30. Two weeks earlier would've put it directly against Star Wars which released 12/18.

You act like De Niro gives a shit. People pay him cash. He signs on for the film.

De Niro has been in a bunch of sub par films. He continued on with the Fockers when it needed to die. Remember Rocky & Bullwinkle? He pops up in some random ass films.

This is not new.

At least Neeson's playing for Scorsese this year.

Silence is easily my most anticipated film of the year. Hopefully we get a trailer soon.

Also, Neeson is still really good when he's playing an action hero. Run All Night and A Walk Among the Tombstones were both underrated.

The point I was trying to make is H8 should've had a wide release 3 weeks prior to SW's release date. I also think the "70mm roadshow" was bullshit. Just release it all at the same time, if a theater can show it in 70mm that's awesome, but doing a split release was dumb IMO. H8 could've easily had a $50mil+ opening weekend this way.

didn't de niro pretty much flat-out say he only does movies for money now when he got some lifetime achievement award at the golden globes?

More like TFA gracefully dropping out of the top spot.

Some people will still be annoyed/surprised. A poster here asked if TFA had a chance at taking the record for biggest weekend for each of its first 12 weekends a couple of weeks back. Maybe this weekend's results will dampen expectations some, but I think casual box office followers/Star Wars fans were expecting more than 4 weekends at #1.

America had their chance
Now it's time for the true king of the box office to take his throne.

Kevin Hart.

Or Michael Bay 😃

Don't think it's happening, but it'd be funny lol

Yo what the fuck! I never knew that. I didn't mind Roth but now I kinda wish we could have seen Sandler instead just for the wtf factor.
