Sunday projection was way overestimated. District 12 tribute, Katniss, killed in action by 20-0 Undertaker.

Oh man thats awkward lol.

Jennifer Lawrence is completely smoking hot and is completely talented. Which pretty makes her the most awesome young female in Hollywood. Now she just needs to do stuff which is more Winter's Bone and less X-Men.

HP:DH2 is still ahead of the Hunger Game, and it top out at 381 million. That was in the summer too, so chances of the Hunger Game hitting 400 million is very low.

The Hunger Games is currently $8M ahead of Spider-Man 3, and both movies basically had the same second weekend gross. Spider-man 3 made $337M. I think the Hunger Games can reach 350M but it won't get much higher than that. $375M is out of reach by this point.

lol, you fool. It'll get close to 400M.

Except that Spider-Man 3 faced Shrek 3 in its third weekend, and Pirates 3 in its fourth weekend. $400m isn't out of reach for Hunger Games, but it'll require a pretty great third weekend hold. Fast Five dropped 62% and then dropped 36% in its second weekend, for instance.

We will have a better idea when we see the weekday drops. I guess $375 isn't completely out of reach, but I can't see it getting much higher than that. Dead Man's Chest only hit $423 and that movie was $9M ahead of HG after 10 days, Hunger Games started $18M ahead of DMC after 3 days, so its has already slipped $27M. Even with better weekends holds going forward, HG doesn't have the advantage of children being out of school to extend its weekday numbers and legs.

Thank fuck Mirror Mirror bombed. Wrath is being kept alive overseas.

World Wide:

Hunger Games - $364,933,000
Wrath of the Titans - $112,200,000
Mirror Mirror - $30,873,634

Fuck Mirror Mirror.

Is that really a flop, though? I mean, nothing pleases me more than seeing that bitch Julia Roberts flopping - why Hollywood doesn't just give all of her parts to Sandra Bullock and forget her existence is beyond me -, but that' a relatively low budget and the movie should be profitable when it's all said and done.

Huh? Mirror Mirror is great, MILES ahead of Wrath of the Titans. Trailers were terrible, but Tarsem directs the shit out of it. One of the best films of the year so far.

Very slim chance at this point. I'd think it will top out at $380-$385 at this point (potentially being generous).

I think if this were during the summer with easier repeat kid business, that might be more doable, but in April, the legs are just shorter by nature.
It's spring break here in Cali, I think it can get that since it's two weeks here now.

Yep, I was just as shocked as I was watching it. Completely charming and delightful the whole time.

It always looked like it would be a live action cartoon to me, and a perfect kids movie. Which no matter how they marketed it, people here would never like when there is a similar project with all the standard epic fantasy trimmings in the pipeline to compare it to.

in this weeks topic: vehement and blind hate for a trailer is sustained despite a person who has actually, y'know, seen the film saying it's undeserved

It's expected. I'd be flabbergasted too. That trailer was one of the worst things released for a film in the last few years. Anyone that also loved the tone of films like Enchanted and Tangled are sure to love Mirror Mirror, except its not so much a deconstruction of the fairytale story but rather just a good one on its own.

It's OK. Not that good of a movie, as far as writing and acting go but it looks good. It felt rushed, liek they wanted to get it out before the other Snow White movie this year. If we're talking about Mirror Mirror.

Oh trust me, I'm baffled that it's any good. The trailer is abominable. But I find the "not sure if serious", "**hilarious** skeptical+derisive .gif" reaction to an assessment of an actual film silly. It's relying too much on presuppositions.

Cheebo on his bike getting ahead of Sculli on his luna moped.

Who will win? Or the better question, who are YOU backing? :P

What the hell are you guys on about? Lulz.

All I've ever said was there was a good chance Titanic would take a bigger overall April take than THG would. The only actual bet I made against THG was that The Hobbit's overall domestic take would outgross THG's.

And yes, I still think there is a chance Titanic's April take could be bigger.

You also said April boxoffice wise is going to be all about Titanic and then posted Titanic gifs. ;) Titanic isn't the story of April. Hunger Games is. Gary Ross is beating Cameron this round.

The only 3D re-releases that people seem to care about are the animated Disney ones.

LOL okay. Is that was this is about to you is it?

I'll tell you what. Let's have a 50 mile marathon and you can start 10ft from the finish line.

I have the feeling you lost that bet as well.

I haven't seen The Hunger Games, but I bet it's better than Avatar ;)

Hobbit will win but it will be a very close race between the two. Hunger Games is a franchise here to stay.

It is. And I liked Avatar. Not as good as Cameron's best film The Abyss though.

But the rise of Hunger Games as the new gigantic film franchise is the big story of 2012 and will be still at years end.

I laughed. The Hunger Games was a piece of shit.

Now that Titanic is looking to do pretty forgettable numbers this weekend after a pretty weak opening day lets just hope Studios realize nobody wants to see 3D re-releases outside of families going to kids movies.

Oh and for sculli:
The Abyss > The Terminator > Aliens > Terminator 2 > True Lies > Avatar > Titanic

Wednesday's numbers :O

Pretty close.

I would say relived. The lack of interest in the Titanic 3D re-release gives me a little bit of more faith in the American movie goer. Not out of anything against Titanic. It's a decent movie. But the 3D re-release trend is just so lazy and awful. If a giant movie like Titanic fails to grab viewers then maybe the studios will get over the 3D re-release hard on they have.
