Snyder made 300 men wearing nothing but undies, work. He can make Superman work.

I was hoping that GL would do better, despite the quality of the movie. I really want to see the sequel that they've set up.
if this movie does well, they will probably make the sequel just as terrible

I think that trend is shifting, I want to see the GL 3D vs 2D numbers, both in money and tickets sold. It appears that the International market and the American market are starting to sour on the 3D trend. I don't know if that it'll stick or not, but I think this summer will finally show with hard numbers that 3D can not be an easy fix to buff up numbers.
We dont have the actual number of 3D screens yet, only locations so I wont delve much deeper into GL's 3D numbers ..

However the amount of gross from 3D is on the decline; it was 80ish percent for Avatar, 70ish for Alice, 60ish recently for Thor and 45% for GL.

I really don't see Captain America making that much money. It's coming out a week after Harry Potter. Transformers and Potter will make bank though.

Agreed. Captain America is dead in the water for the overseas market, and domestically it will do well but Harry Potter will bite into it big time.....which is good. I hope Avengers bombs. Last thing we need is sequels to that AND all the individual superhero flicks in addition to it.

And seriously, seeing Joss Whedon parading around with a hit would be cringeworthy.

Why people think GL will be saved by ww numbers? Nobody cares about GL, especially ww.
People said the same thing about Thor. And there is a definite pattern over the past couple of years of movies doing bad domestically and more than making up for it internationally. We're not seeing Pirates level numbers, but I could see Green Lantern getting salvaged by international box office for Warner Bros to cautiously move forward with a sequel. I think they have too much invested in the franchise to walk away now.

Eh, that's tough to say. The main issues of the movie were its script and the CG. Now that they're past the bland origins story, they can delve deeper into the lore. Sinestro is already on the path and there's a lot of ways they can take it with a better script that isn't written by committee. I believe they were already working on one. Also I'm sure they know what they're working with when it comes to CG and will plan ahead. The movie's problems have been overstated dramatically. With a little bit of work, it could have been good and it should be easy to learn from those mistakes.

As much as I hate Joe Johnston, I would like to see Captain America do well internationally just to show Paramount it was fucking stupid to change G.I. Joe from "real American heroes" to an international team of operatives. So fucking stupid.

Just one more reason for me to be hyped about Avengers. Not that I needed one, it's going to rock so hard.

Captain America is not "dead in the water" in the overseas markets. Marvel considered even just renaming the film to "The First Avenger" for international releases, but their market research showed that -- outside of, like, Russia and Korea -- people liked Captain America fine.

It's not a gung-ho American movie anyway.

Yeah seriously, nobody gives a shit if its called Captain America. A lot of people don't seem to understand that outside of the European and Indian markets - both of which are still heavily saturated by Hollywood, every other market in the world is pretty much dominated by Hollywood to the point where we're completely Americanized in terms of theatrical distribution.

Nobody will be turned off seeing Captain America because of its national ties.
