Wonder of The Sea made Titanic look tiny

Titanic was impressive for its time which was 110 years ago... but it ain't shit compared to these gigantic floating cities we have today.

I would never go on any of those cruise ships. They look boring and souless. They also are extremely damaging to the environment. I've been fascinated with Titanic since i was a little kid when the movie came out and it has been my dream to go on a cruise ship. I think the only ship I'd go on would be the Queen Mary 2. It's probably the closest experience you can get today of being on the Titanic. Cunard merged with White Star in the 1930's and it seems they are appealing to the same market as Titanic did. Plus, QM2 has a classy look about her. She ain't a huge white/colourful ship with tacky branding slapped along the side.

and here she is compared to the Titanic:

I was actually looking to go on the QM2 this month when she was travelling around the mediterranean. Prices were like £3,000-5,000. Some rooms were up to about £40,000! It was a 14 day trip. I'm glad I didn't book it because I wouldn't have been able to go due to COVID lol. I'm going to see if there are any short winter trips later this year and if not I'm going to plan for a trip next summer. I hate myself for wanting to go on a cruise due to the environmental damage they cause but I just want to do it once since it's been a life long dream. I am lucky enough to be able to afford it so I might as well do it now while I can.

The engineering is super impressive. I know some people just love cruises, I have never been so perhaps it would be different if I tried. Personally I am not even into "all inclusive" resorts, even if super nice, so I am not sure I would enjoy a cruise.

Man thanks for sharing. I have never been on a cruise ship, but dear lord those things are gigantic and how much variety they stuffed in there. Impressive

Better read than the OP

I've done a few cruises and they're alright, it's just a floating buffet that sails port to port with the old and obese shuffling off and on occasionally. I done the Hawaiian Islands and the northern med and generally enjoyed myself but I prefer terra ferma, I'll prob do a northern lights one in a few years Norway/Iceland and that'll be me done with em but the engineering that goes into building them is seriously impressive alongwith the logistics of running them, I find that fascinating as hell

i'm looking to do a northern cruise since it's cheaper/shorter. i think the QM2 only really does norway. if i can see the Northern Lights on that then i'm sure as shit going on that.

I declare that the vessel shall henceforth be known as Titanic 2: Jack's Back.
If we follow Disney's template, we would have 50 spin off shows.

Titanic: Hard to Port. A 6 episode drama on not to drink and drive a large ocean faring vessel. Based on a true story, a revisionist history of how the drunk captain caused the sinking of the ship.

Titanic: Iceberg Lettuce. Gordon Ramsey is sent back through time to prevent the disaster. Maybe the friends we made was the uncooked lamb along the way.

Titantic: Ocean's 15. A team of expert thiefs are chasing down the infinity stones which the Avengers hid on the ship for reasons. A special cameo from Thanos, 'I am unsinkable'.

I like cruising if the trip is through places that are cool to see like Alaska and all the ports are deep water so you can walk on or off. I enjoy seeing all the cool places on these ships as they usually ha e tons of small bars and clubs that are fun.

But I don't much care for tropical cruises that are just to islands where you have to tender to shore and all there is to do is the same ATV/zip line/ sit on beach and get drunk activities, then when you are at see its just empty ocean. Would rather do an all In clusive then.

My folks do the river cruises with much smaller ships, they like them a lot. More personal and way more places to stop.

Because they jump off.
Now i know western caribean tour part can be prone to pickpocketing around jamaica haiti cozumel and mexico

But 20 passenger gone /year? Kidnapping? Thats some serious shit ( if he has evidence to back up this claim)

My sister and my best friend we all do taht Ross "keep it down" hands all the time with that smug face. Classic.

I used to work at a cruise terminal. I would be asked several times a day how much bigger the titanic was. The truth is that all modern cruise liners make the titanic look like a little bitch in comparison
Well the Titanic was remarkable for it's time and even now ships aren't so much big that it looks like a "little bitch in comparison".

that's not a boat.
Correct, it is a ship, not a boat. This is a boat

So my 2 cents on cruises. My wife wanted to do a Disney cruise instead of going to Disney. I thought I was going to hate it and that my son would be bored. I was soooo wrong. There is a ton to do on a cruise and each day they would pick a drink and it would be 1/2 price. Our cruise as a 3 night cruise in the Bahamas (this was, man, 10 or 11 years ago). We did an excursion to Atlantis in Nassau and then to Disney's private island. The weather was iffy on the island so half price drinks for everyone lol) the only thing that bugged me was I am an introvert and don't really do well with meeting new people until I warm up to them. When they schedule your meals, They rotate you through the restaurants and they seat you with other people opposite them. The family that was supposed to sit with us didn't show up so I requested a separate table the following nights. The rest of the cruise we were able to eat at our own table. I had a lot more fun than I thought I would and I wouldn't mind doing it again.
