Uruguay salty AF. Always drama when they’re playing. Good to see them out. Doubt Aus will beat Argentina but I’ll still cheer them on.

I think it's like calling the US "Texas" or something, which is a region within the Netherlands.:messenger_grinning_sweat: Sadly, we still call it Holland in Arabic, and I think in many other languages do so. Calling it "The Low Lands" isn't really fun as well.

Every time I meet an American calling The Netherlands "Holland", I for ever and ever refer to their country as "Dakota". Because you know, there's north and south Dakota just like there's Noord-Holland and Zuid-Holland.

For more historic education, have they been one part then united?

Wikipedia has nice articles on history of provinces of North and South Holland. It used to be one region.

Also, border in this part of the world changed so many times, it's kind of silly. I mean look at this shit:

Anyway, can't wait for Dakota Vs. Holland later today. Question remains. Will they be playing football or soccer?

Are you not supposed to take off your shirt when celebrating a goal? What's so bad about that? The more man nipples the merrier, I say.

It's considered time wasting, same would be if you take off a shoe while celebrating. I think FIFA should reconsider that as it doesn't really take that much time to wear it again. This law only suppresses enthusiasm.

I see! Was this so much a problem in the past that they feel like they needed to make a rule? It seems fine to me.

Why they don't stop the timer when ball is not in play like in other sports? Serious question, I'm not into football.

The stoppage time at the end of each half is meant to account for this. The amount of time added is relative to the amount of time play was stopped.

There’s a theory that goes that it was banned so that in club football the shirt sponsor is prominently displayed when the player is celebrating a goal. Since that image is probably going to be the one featured on newspapers and broadcasts the sponsor wants to make sure they’re featured in those moments.

I get that but why just not stop the clock every time the ball is not in play? Like you know, in basketball for example. I'm sure that would be more accurate than someone adding 3,4,7 minutes at the end.

There is stoppage time at the end. It was usually around 5-7min max but seems like it has been amplified in the World Cup:

Don't blame Uruguay.
Uruguay should be called the "good Argentina" in every way.

I believe it is because in the late 90's early 2000's players began to use undershirts with advertising, political messages, etc.

College soccer in the US uses a clock like you would expect. The answer, like anything in soccer, is tradition and resistance to change. Look how long it took the biggest sport in the world to adopt tech like video review. It's just its own beast.

TV made by dogshit Chinese company, watch brand is tacky for rappers and people with no taste.

Sponsors look as solid as the organising country.

I could write something cynical about the Dutch team being Instagram stars who wouldn't run after a ball if it didn't look awesome on social media, but fuck it. Hope they win.

sorry americans. i supported you against england but today i'm supporting netherlands. for whatever it's worth i have a bet on for netherlands to qualify. not in the 90 minutes and for both teams to score. i think USA will do well but they'll get beat hopefully.

You mean the bands you see on screen? That's when the screen is 60Hz like most TV's around and you're shooting it with a shutter speed higher than 1/50s like 99% of the time. That's shot probably with a cameraman that they tend to shoot at 1/1000-1/2000s shutter speed to freeze action with a rolling shutter sensor.

Pulisic in the lineup.

I normally do not root much for the United States in international sports but the world cup is different because the men never do well.

Good point, but I meant Hisense at the bottom, I assume they are the manufacturer and the sponsor.

They are solid though, let's not forget that most electronics are made in China. The alternative would be paying the same and getting less resolution (bigger LED's). The amount of money Qatar has spent for the World Cup will not be topped in our lifetime.

Above all of that, metros and buses are free. The good thing about this compact area is fans from all over the world get to meet and interact with each other and you can watch way more matches than possible.

I think it's the best world cup so far IMOH.

Funny the next world cup will be the opposite with Mexico, Canada and U.S. as organizers
