You guys seems to be doing a lot of interesting poses(emotes?). Does the game have a system that lets you do whatever pose you want?

Comparing WoW's artstyle to FFXI's artstyle - aside from personal preference - is like trying to compare Jak and Dakster's artstyle to maybe Half-Life 2 or something.

As a matter of fact, WoW's "look" reminds me alot of the Jak and Dakster games in the color pallete and the way the world looks from afar, when you can see across canyons and stuff like that. FFXI's is much more of a gradient and a more subtle color palette.

For instance, this low-res screenshot from when I first started playing FFXI:

plainview.jpg

The colors are just much more natural than WoW which is an obvious artistic choice for the environments. Then again, I hear WoW seems a little more complex (though how much more complex than a place like Jueno or Sandy in FFXI I'm not sure), and doesn't have zones which balances out.

The balancing act also comes into the character models, which are much more detailed and impressive in FFXI, but the trade-off is that you're likely to run into someone who looks exactly like you twice every half hour in FFXI.

I don't get it. WoW seems to fluctuate visually from awesome to ass on a post-to-post basis.

To be honest, the game does go from awesome to ass at times. So, it reflects it perfectly. =P

Wow, everyone on the WoW boards is whining that the Warrior class is horrible... Maybe I should re-roll a character before I get too invested in it.

Is anyone playing a Warrior above lvl. 15 & happy with it???

Just a quick response to this.

First rule of MMORPGs: All players think their class is underpowered. The key is making the most of everything you have:)

However, the people playing Warrior are playing a changed class. Features even listed in the book (Pummel, Inner Rage) are gone. Stun time from Charge changed from 5 seconds to 1 second, etc. PLenty other changes.

Second Rule of MMORPGs: Research the changes, make up your own mind.

Third Rule of Reality. Blizzard balances for its players. Case in point, griefing. I fucking tell ya guy this ahead of time and people still act surprised when it happens.

"well most of our players like to grief so its part of the game!"

Warriors underpowered? Not surprised.

One of Blizzard's retarded people they hired from EQ decided to do an "awesome" redesign of the warrior basically 2 days before open beta started. That's the current warrior, which fucking blows and can't tank well (especially at higher levels) unless every single talent point is spent on defensive talents. This same guy designed what is arguably the least fun instance of all the ones I've played in the game, Blackrock Depths (luckily, everyone is practically forced to do this instance from about level 54 to level 58 or even level 60 because the other instances are either too easy or too hard at those levels). So yeah, basically they shouldn't let that guy touch anything in the game anymore, because his "awesome" ideas wind up only being awesome on paper and suck horribly when they're actually put in.

I had a hella lotta fun in BRD yesterday. Was doing it with a couple of NE, warrior/hunter and a dwarf paladin. All sorts of bastardry been thrown at us, but we took it pretty well. Died sure, but still was great :)
Also the levels of the mobs are relatively consistent (at least the area we explored).

Unlike the VC instance which has just swarms of respawning mobs... now that ISN'T fun. also their level ranges from 17 normal, which is way too easy and then gets upto 22+ elites as you get close to vancleef. Silly.

More screenshots! Yay!

That's an area that looks like Frankenstein's lab... two shots of my 1st bat ride & just a generic shot of my character. :D

I heard what you were saying. Just didn't expect the change :_: I'm seeing "pummel" in these abilities in magazines and guide and manual and thinking it's pretty damn cool. Bust out the game... OOPS lol

Oh well.

two more screens.. haven't seen anything from ashenvale or azshara posted here yet.. two serine pictures.. that is actually just from the entrance to azshara (the "fall" forest). Unfortunately it tazkes a man much higher than level 22 to go wandering through that place.... :\

I love being a rogue. In spite of a whole group of enemies being a level higher than myself I managed to take em all out through sneaky roguery.

Blackrock Depths and Blackfathom Deeps (They changed the name) are different beasts. Hell, BFD ain't very fun either.

Anyways, it's funny. I play the game so much and don't really notice the graphics, then yesterday as was running into Ratchet for the billionth time, it hits me and I was like... damn this game looks good. I can't wait for Feralas and Azshara, those are probably the most beautiful zones in the game.

This was yesterday at the bottom of Gnomeregan.. we had only 2 deaths the entire instance -- unfortunately for one of our members, it was seconds before Thermaplugg died and he didnt get credit for the kill. :(

my pic above from azshara is just from the entrance from ashvenvale, but yeah... when I entered it I really was taken back for a couple secs... you really aren't expecting somoething that gorgeous in the game... the world design and actual landscaping employed in this game are second to none...

gorgeous.

on a slightly related note, my brother and friend just canned their EQ2 accounts (not even out of their first free month) and picked up WoW instead.. they are very happy with the results..

Me currently.

I got one from a kid on the outskirts of Ironforge. It was a kid chasing a bunny named Fluffy or something like that, I bought it from him for 20 silver.

I don't know if you can buy one were you are, think your side is limited to pet roaches :lol

You can get to Khaz Modan and Stormwind from Darnassus rather painlessly whenever you want. Just stay on the path and watch where you're going. :P

Horde can buy Alliance pets (and vice versa) through the Booty Bay neutral auctions. There's usually a fair markup, but it's certainly possible.

With a bit of luck I will be playing the Europe Beta tomorrow, which classes and professions would you guys recommend me (preferrably Horde).

I'm planning to play a Paladin Dwarf with Mining and Blacksmithing, and a Shaman Tauren with Herbalism and Alchemy in the retail version. I've played a Mage Gnome with Tailoring and Skinning in the American Beta.

Should I try something like a Druid or a Warrior now, and which professions go good with that. I don't want to play another class like a Mage though, only cloth and no weapons but Staffs and wands...

Damn, Palsy, you're 40+ already? What is your current level? Also, how much did your mount cost? Is it an undead mount and was it 90g after discount?

Uni, we only have roaches (conventionally available) unless you have a collector's edition pet.

Also, the third auction house is in Gadgetzan.

I'm just about to hit level 42 tonight. Hopefulyl fast. Have a Skullcrusher Mace of the Tiger (59-100dmg/5 agi/5 str/one-hand) that I can't equip until 42. And yeah, I got the 90g Undead mount.
