World of Warcraft: Warlords of Draenor | Launch Thread

I only got to play for a little bit last night.

It was all good, until I remembered that the entire starting quest series in the Jungle is instanced. Then I got to do some quests in the world for my Garrison. What should have took 5 minutes took a half hour. When my cloak proced and did Flurry of Xuen, I was so lagged that the animation slowed down to every individual punch instead of the actual flurry.

It seemed like it evened out a little as it got earlier, but I had to go to bed.

I guess I'm not even going to bother with opening my box. The server my chars are on isn't even online according to the realm status page.

800 min wait to log in
Classic Stormrage

I got in after about an hour on Stormrage. Got maybe 10 minutes of play before DC, logged in to an more delicious queue.

I don't remember Cata or MoP being this bad, then again I was on Blackrock back then and it was no where near as packed during those expansions.

So why is this launch worse than any other in WoW history?

This is just conjecture, but based on the amount of aborted transfers and them tying garrisons to your leveling so heavily... they ballsed up their server estimations. When you need to fire up an instance if you just fly over it, it's bound to break.

It doesn't help that with each expansion being sold, a free boost to level 90 is given. I'd love to see the numbers of subscribers in the EU and US purely for the month of November.

I expected a lot of old hats to join back WoW for this expansion, and with additional server overload with phasing ans Garrisons it can only make things more chaotic.

Isn't this why people do Open Beta's to stress test their servers? Yah, that sounds damned silly.

Finally got in after a 2 hour queue and now I'm stuck retrieving characters... I'm afraid to do anything now in case I get placed back in queue.

I play on Lethon-US and only had to queue for a couple min and I was in. Server is usually medium pop. Checked the server list and almost all the servers are locked. Kind of awesome to see that there are alot of people coming back for this expansion.

Sure did, but it was nothing like this, not even close. No expansion has been this much of a clusterfuck.

The computations have never been like this either. As someone who works in the field, it's not always cut and dry.

Adding to the above anecdotal evidence, I haven't ha a single issue either. (kul tiras/blade fist)

Characters retrieved and now loading! Unfortunately, the loading screen is stuck. The fear of getting disconnected and being placed back in queue is making the simple task of logging in such a thrill lol.

So far it's been pretty smoot for me, only got one disconnect. Each his own, and it's bound to occur more on high populated servers. In two weeks, everyone will have forgot.

Opening of raids nights can often be just as much a disaster as launch. I remember how awful ToTC was opening night on Blackrock.

Same for me (EU, and not on an over-pop server), there's a bit of lag from time to time and sometimes I have to wait 2min to enter the garrison but that's about it. First time it's that smooth actually, I'm impressed.

Yeah if you're on a low pop server you're golden. Most of us, coincidentally, are on the high pop servers so most of the WoW player base is having a hard time with trying to play right now

Sup guys. Anyone need an invite to my low pop server?

Yeah, basically what happened to me. Waited 45 min, got in, saw that first cinematic, lag spike, DC, number 4500 in the queue.
/cry

How are the new zones brehs? They seem great based on the small amount of Twitch streams I've watched today.

Can't wait to get home and
queue up and try to
play

I don't even want to look at the queue for Moon Guard.

It's had one the past month at least before this.

edit: 4300 in queue

uh yeah don't think so!

whoa.. bloodhoof queue.. haven't seen one of those in years...

shouldn't have had supper. lol.

On Stormrage, cannot get in, easily the worst launch in history. Blizzard, wtf, really.

Worse than BC, haha no. It also depends on your specific server. I'm on Trollbane and I joined que at 500....odd thing is that as the number goes down the wait time calculation goes up lol.

Happens with just about every launch, I'm used to it.

411 in que, 130 minute wait lol.

Any priests out there?

Haven't played since a few months after MoP came out. I assume I pretty much need to level shadow?

The hotfix worked. I'm on Mal'ganis, but transfered via a group to a mid pop realm. Unsure which, lol.

Game is playing well for me now.

Off to see if Gormaul is fixed.

Many players on MG reporting that shit's still broken for them.

Despite having to face an insane que and frequent bouts of crippling lag, I have been incredibly impressed with the first two hours of content in this expansion.

Firstly, the introductory questline in the portal-area instance is so damn impressive! The way it shows each of the Warlords with their own introduction and title card went a long way into making me care about killing them. The quests had an insane amount of variety and a ton of cool setpiece moments. The arena, the tank cannon, the desperate run to the boat, and everything else was a blast. The dialogue was surprisingly well-written, too.

The first zone has a great intro, too. I'm shocked at how quickly they give you the garrison, and they explain the basics remarkably well. The UI is all gorgeous for it, as well, I love how new buildings are accompanied with their own cinematic intros and title cards as well. That's a lot of style.

So far, this is one of the most promising starts to an expansion in the game's history. I'm deeply interested in what endgame will be like this time around.

Hnnng I need to get home and park my ass inqueue.

And yeah, I love those title cards for the major characters. Saw one on a twitch stream earlier.

Good to hear your thoughts. I only got a few quests deep this morning but I know what you are talking about with the names appearing over the characters when they're introduced. I loved that. Reminded me of like a Kill Bill type of thing. I've been reading the quests this time around because I'm really intrigued with the story in this expansion so far

This reminds me why I don't like paying the sub for WoW. They never comp people even when the game is unplayable.
