I hate that it killed KOTOR3.
I had a friend in Uni who was obsessed with WoW to the point where he disappeared from Uni for extended periods just to play the game. I tried to get him to try KOTOR too but WoW was all he ever played. It took over his life completely.

No, I do not purchase any games with storefronts. If they get rid of that i might look at it.

I don't do subscriptions either, I don't have the Netflix, Hulu, or anything I have to pay for a month, or past the initial purchase. I won't even let my wife pay a monthly subscription for heated seats on her new car.
Then why not just buy her a car with heated seats or buy the seats for the current car?

Of course.

Vanilla WoW is one of the absolute goats imo. Those initial years from 2004-2006, when the game was still a mystery in many ways, was incredible.

Then why not just buy her a car with heated seats or buy the seats for the current car?
It's a BMW, I didn't go with her to purchase it, as she knew what she wanted. I got nailed the same way with my hybrid Jeep wrangler. I have to pay a monthly subscription to unlock my doors with my phone. I won't do that either.

It is t just heated seats, it is multimedia, driver assist functions and all that. From an email a couple months ago, they stopped the subscription after you got it free for a year, I believe. It's very complicated on the site. Now it's safety features are a couple hundred a year, drive recording, etc.

I was hooked on it when it was new. I got really into Eve Online, too.

I broke my addiction because I was sleep deprived and it was affecting my health and I avoid MMO's now.

I did play it, since its pre-launch beta.
But I also quitted for good rather quickly, something like 2 years after its original release.

I first tried it out a little late to the party, I made my first character about a couple months prior to the Burning Crusade expansion. Played the hell out of it up to around the end of Wrath and just moved on. I tried to come back during a couple expansions (WoD, Legion) and had a bit of fun, but never got back into it like I did previously. I just don't think the game is for me anymore.

I played this game addictively for about two months many years ago, and then I just quit. I would play it again but I don't want to play on PC, if they brought it to console I would.

Played from launch up to the start of Cata. I bounced back in near the end of Cata and quit again. I then developed a love-hate with it for the next few expansions after that where I would play for a month or two and quit, finally quitting for good (so I thought) during Legion. Once they spun up the classic servers, they had me again for a bit, but I still ended up quitting about part-way through BC classic and haven't touched it since.

i played it years ago on a shitty laptop at 720p 15-20fps with all low settings. it was one of the games that made me want to build my own gaming PC.

i can't remember last time i played it. i keep saying i want to go back to it but never do. paying monthly sub is a huge turn off. if they ever bring it to steam or console and make it F2P then i'll give it another shot.

Started playing somewhere in 2005. A few weeks after its release in Europe.
Once we got to Cataclysm I started taking breaks in between, but have mostly continued on till Warlords of Draenor. Then my playtime got a whole lot less. Came back for Legion and pretty much skipped Battle for Azeroth and entirely skipped Shadowlands.

Dragonflight I couldn't care much for apart from a few M+ runs a week. Was far more interested in classic and classic Burning Crudade.

Now I've been fully playing The War Within.

It will always be the best game I've ever played even if all the changes over the many years aren't necessarily for me.

I played the game when it was peak. From EU beta until the lich king. Never gonna forget that experience and the IRL friendships i forged during that time.

Vanilla WoW was a step back from EverQuest in a lot of ways. The world was sterile and simplified, no meaningful faction system, no sense of risk in exploration. But the gameplay was some of the best balanced and tightest in any multiplayer game ever (except paladins which were obviously an unfinished class at release).

I started playing WOW when Wrath came out. I would have played when it first came out but didn't think it would appeal to me. But one day a few years after the game came out Blizzard offered a free trial to play to level 10, when I reached level 10 I wanted to keep playing and subscribed.

I must say WOW is the best game I have ever played in my life. I had more fun in that game than all of the games I have played combined. I finally gave up in 2020. Some days I do miss playing it but I just think of all the time consumption that game takes out of my life lol.

Played since the Vanilla beta. Never stuck to it.
I played until wrath, but I was the type of player who wanted to absorb the world and environment so I rarely reached much of the end-game.
After that I jumped to Guild Wars 2. More of the style and gameplay I want.

tried classic wow for nostalgia sake. people just buy gold from botters with their real money and then spend it on raid drops. or they earn legacy pvp ranks by sitting in alterac valley. so sad.

I have played it off and on. Never really got really deep into it or did a raid or joined a guild.

I have had jackasses kick me out of dungeon groups because I was not playing optimally.

I do like how the game lets you play solo for most of the zone.

Thousands of hours.. Started in Vanilla and became more serious in Burning Crusade. Mostly focused on PvP during that time. Then from Wrath of the Lich King onwards I joined a Dutch/Belgian guild and raided 3 evenings per week. Always playing as a healer. That continued on into Cataclysm and Pandaria. And then I quit during the time Warlords of Draenor came out. Never played it again ever since.

Lost interest when they remade (i.e. ruined) all the old zones from the base game in Cataclysm. I still play from time to time, but always on a private WotLK server that's been going for 15+ years.

Never played. Wouldn't even consider paying $15 per month for a game now. When it came out, I think I was still into Ultima Online, though. That's the only one I played.

I played vanilla and a little bit of BC. The sense of adventure and discovery was wonderful.

Played when the internet was a better place, back in 2007/2008

Have no idea how the game is today, and I'm scared how it is since Blizzard became a arrogant woke bitch

I played Warcraft 1 and 2 back in the 90's, i can't remember playing 3 over 20 years ago, but i've never played World of Warcraft as i don't like multi player games and it's gameplay.

When WoW came out, I was still playing FFXI. Didn't jump on the bandwagon until about a year after. It was alot of fun but I never stuck with it despite most of my friends and coworkers being completely obsessed with it for years.

I never liked the art direction and most of the gear just looked like shit tbh. I really enjoyed the pvp though, especially when they had the original infamy system in place with world pop. Game lost its balls though

I had a great time with official Vanilla and private Cata.

Had my own guild in Private Cata and was a bit popular in my server because i would carry everyone in random BGs.

It was legendary game, even ppl who never played it heard about it and respected it.
For my younger gaf-bros- its popularity was similar big to fortnite nowadays, back in early 2k's it had 12m players paying for subscribtion concurently.
U can tell by how many first tier celebs made ads for the game but every1 probably saw them all by now. How about japanese crossover between WoW and Coca-cola commercial:

Back then there was this famous youtuber Athene(ofc it was all made up fake net personality altho he really was extremly highranked paladin just like he claimed) which was beloved by many wow players, just to give u a foretaste of how epic it all was:

Pc player here since the 90's and i'm massive fan of Warcraft 2 and 3...

Never played WoW. Hate their subscription business model and how Blizzard completely ignored the RTS after WoW.

Just create a different timeline and give us Warcraft 4, ok?

I played it for a few weeks or so back in 2013/2014. As with every MMORPG I've tried, they get repetitive and boring extremely fast and I drop them.

Played with friends and roommates for way too long. We would study the game and research best practices. Formed multiple gilds.
Spent hours on main and alts.

One night I just had an epiphany and realized I wasn't having fun. Just playing to be playing cause it was a routine. Quit when I got my flying mount.

Giving more money to Blizzard just hurts now.
But I still paid for Diablo 3 and 4.
😖

Never played it. I was playing MUD games back then and I remember hurting our playerbase quite a lot. Due studies, work and being expensive (playing from South America) never even tried it.

What is great about WoW is that it is entertaining in some way. There is always something amusing or impressive about it.

But, it is kind of a one trick pony and you get burnt out on all the quests. The quests are not as meaningful like a single player game.
