Worst City You've Ever Been To?

I'm curious to see what cities Gaf has been to that are the worst. Try to think of the city with the least economic strength, lack of culture, ugliest architecture, pretty much everything that adds up. Curious to see how bad cities can get.

As for me, I think Rosamond is probably the worst city I've ever been to. Terrible weather, jack shit to do, NOTHING cultural or entertainment, laughable eating establishments, and they don't even have big box stores. Worst of all, the city will never grow anytime soon. Awful city.

I've been to cities so tiny (as in a few hundred) that they're not even worth mentioning because it'll mean nothing. But of those with a name people would recognize I suppose the worst would have to be Flint.

Greymouth, NZ. It's like a mix between Twin Peaks and Innsmouth from the Lovecraft novel. It doesn't help probably that it is in such stark contrast to the natural beauty of New Zealand.

Lansing, Michigan. Don't think I've ever been through such as boring a city in my life (the donut shop downtown is nice, though).

On another note, I know it is sometimes easy to crap on cities you don't like, but I never understood why people say flawed, but great cities like Baltimore when these places are paradise compared to how many listless, irrelevant cities exist in the world. Try living in a place like Driggs, Idaho and then tell me if Baltimore is a terrible place.

I've heard particularly dubious things about Stockton. Why is it so bad?

It's ugly as hell and completely undisguished. But it's also ridden with crime. I think it's regularly on lists of the ten most dangerous cities in America. I remember I stayed at a hotel there because I was exhausted from driving and I could hear gunshots every ten minutes or so

A lot of the time I find it's just asinine sports rivalry nonsense.

Jakarta. Its a city without a functioning public transportation, which means the roads are congested all the time with three lanes being used by five rows of cars and motorcycles in between. Also the the i was there parts of the roads were flooded to a point where the cars felt like ships.

I loved the food and part of the city surely feel modern but man...

Mumbai. Went there as part of work a couple of years ago. Pretty much all the people I met were super-friendly and very service-minded, but the hygiene slayed me and had to be stuck at the hotel for the rest of the visit after my second day. Seriously thought I'd die over there.

And it might not be correct to say this, but our entire travelling group had really bad experiences with the street beggars there. They were extremely rude and downright threatening and physical.

For me, it would probably be a tie between:

Mobile, AL

or

Metropolis, IL

Mobile at least has some nearby beaches that are pretty decent, so I guess Metropolis would win this one. It was a shithole right on the border near the city in Kentucky where I was born and the only noteworthy things there were the Superman Museum / Statue and the riverboat casino. I don't even know if the riverboat casino is still around, honestly.

Vidor, Texas. The most racist and dangerous redneck town I've had the misfortune of passing through. The KKK is active there and a part of the local government. First time I didn't know the full history, now I always detour around it.

Hard to say, I've been to a ton of small, crappy cities I don't even remember the names of.

For big cities, Paris. I hated it there. It's dirty, smelly, full of tourists and unfriendly locals. There's some serious points of extreme wealth and poverty right next to each other.
In France my favourite city is Lyon. Such a beautiful place...although still relatively unfriendly locals.

Valdosta Ga if you can call that a city. It was just a crappy looking college and some stores. I'm sure more places like that exist in the deep south but I dont wanna go anywhere near em lol.

Teheran.
The traffic is a nightmare. Everything is recent and pretty ugly. The mountain are beautiful though.

My second worst is Ankara, but i just passed by in bus.

Not sure but once I passed by a town in Georgia that was just a few houses and a gas station, I literally saw zero people there, felt like I was in The Walking Dead.

DeLand, Florida. Despite having an amazing downtown area, the city is filled with obnoxious drunks, annoying Gator fans, and ultra-aggressive bro-type guys who have nothing better to do on weekends than to get smashed and pick fights with people. It's a city where ignorance is celebrated proudly. But they do have an annual dog parade so that's pretty cool.

Pretty much every city in NJ. I cannot find words to properly express how awful this place is. My wife and I have a countdown timer set up for when her assignment ends and we can move away from this dumpster fire of a place.

It saddens me to say so since it's where I was born, but New Delhi is an absolute shithole. Or at least it was when I was there last and judging by what others have told me, it hasn't gotten any better.

In the US, I really hated fort Wayne Indiana. Boring and ugly and sad.

Kuwait City is pretty awful in comparison with other cities in the region. Everything is just in a state of frozen construction. Nothing gets finished and half the city is just a giant dirt lot that would be perfect for a park or something but instead gets filled with garbage and scrap. Considering how much money the country has, the fact only the wealthiest areas of the city get any kind of landscaping or city improvement is disgusting.

Twice when I have been in Fresno I have seen this shirt being sold. I found it hard to disagree.

Chattanooga

I've been to pretty much everywhere in the US save the NW. I'm from St. Louis and used to live in Florida. But Chattanooga is the worst.

And Americans visit Tijuana because it's literally right next to San Diego (where my mother is from, so I'm familiar with both places) and it has a strange appeal, sort of like a really seedy Las Vegas or Atlantic City or something.

Weird. I really enjoy that city, and it is on our shortlist of places to relocate next year. :)

I had to google Rosamond to even know what State or Country you were talking about. Seems it's hard to qualify it as a city (18,000 people?), so I guess we are talking about the worst "places" instead? If that's the clase probably the shittiest place I've ever been is some bumfuck rural place in West Virginia on the way to Harper's Ferry. Felt like we were in Deliverance with fat dudes wearing nothing but overalls (no shirt under) and leering at my mom and talking about city folk and shaking their heads.

For actual cities, probably Bengbu in China. Absolutely nothing there even though it's got anywhere from 1-3 million people depending on how you measure it. Just dirty and disgusting and poor. Hardly a car on the road. Sidewalks crumbling. Seemingly half the shops shuttered. Nothing really to do at all except go to the park and play cards or majiang.
